Episode 115 - Planting for the Future
Location: Pike's Quarters
Timeline: MD1 -1905
Alex stepped into the turbolift after checking up on their newest brig guest. She was so upset that she was ranting to herself and doing it very loudly. Here, she was trying to be a friend to Deela and she got reduced to a crewmember. And then, she pulled rank on her? "We've been friends for a long time and to treat me like that? How dare she! I have the right mind to get a hold of my mother and let her give Deela a good talking to. Maybe I'll do just that." Her mother served under Deela's command. They go back a long way.
The turbolift stopped at another floor and two very young women walked in. They were security officers. They had to be new since she didn't recognize them and she knew everyone in security. It was obvious that the rumor mill was already turning. "I can't believe that we actually have a prisoner from that other place."
"I know, huh. It's very exciting. I got a glimpse of him. Ooh la la is all I can say." The other one giggled.
Alex huffed, "Unbelievable."
The girls turned to see who said that. They weren't sure who she was but she was obviously a person of importance. She could feel the blood drain from her face, "My apologies Captain. It's just that we've never seen anyone before from that other place." She was embarrassed and was so happy when the turbolift door opened. They stepped out quickly and didn't look back.
Alex just shook her head and sighed, "And these are the ones who will be in charge one day." She found herself ranting out loud to herself again. She headed for home, eager to see the twins and just relax.
Lee was already home, he had decided to end his shift early and spend some time with the twins, he had already felt what was going on and so did the the twins as they looked towards the door "Mommy is okay you two."
Alex walked in and was surprised to see Lee. Looking at their faces, she could tell that they knew she was upset. The twins stood there, just looking at her. They weren't sure if they should hug her or run the other way. Alex smiled at them, got down at their level and held her arms out. They ran up to her and gave her that hug that she really needed right now.
Alex looked over at Lee, then back at the kids, "Mommy's better now." She straightened up once the kids let go. They went back to playing with each other. She watched them for a moment, grateful for them being hers. She turned back her attention to her husband, "Sorry, it's just been one of those days."
Lee sat there watching his kids for a moment then turned to look at his wife "Just a bad day huh?"
"More like a few bad hours." Alex sat down, trying to be calm, "Deela and I had an argument over her reckless decisions. I called her on it and she, had the nerve, to pull rank on me." She stopped for a moment and took a cleansing breath, "After what happened today, I question her sanity."
Lee looked at her "And why do you question her sanity?"
"When her and Brandon went to Kaleb, some people nabbed him. She, of course, went after him when she was confronted by someone. You're not going to believe this but that someone was Jim, Deela's late husband's doppelganger, who helped her get him back. This is when she found out that Jack is alive and being held prisoner in that 'mirror universe.' There's a contract to kidnap her. Apparently, this person who has Jack wants to torture him by taking the one thing he loves most, Deela." She continued the story, "So, instead of just leaving, she brings this guy back with her. He's sitting in the brig right now as we speak. I don't trust him."
Now that Alex said the story out loud, she realized that it sounded like something out of a movie, "So I confronted her about it." She sighed, "Deela's not thinking straight. She's obviously not herself. I'm worried about her. She's falling apart and no one even notices, not even Bremer."
Lee raised an eyebrow "So...would you like for me to interview the guy? I probably could tell if he's lying or hiding something."
Alex nodded, "If you want. I'm hoping that Starfleet picks him up. I think he has ulterior motives. If Jack ends up dead, I'm more than sure that he'll try to wiggle his way into her life when she is the most vulnerable. I'll be damned if I let him. I hope Jack makes it because she's already tragically lost two other husbands. I'm surprised that she held it together back then. I know how I'd be if I lost you. I hope I never do."
"I would have no problem talking to him and trying to figure out what's going on." Lee reached over grabbing her hand then gently pulling her towards him "And I would be lost without you. Hopefully Jack isn't dead and we can get him back for Deela."
"The problem is that Starfleet won't give anyone permission to go rescue him. Deela's hoping that Jim can convince them that he IS there and needs rescuing. We'll see." She remained in his embrace, not wanting to let go, "Enough about Deela. Right now, I just want to enjoy this moment."
Lee sat there holding Alex "Okay then no more talk about work for awhile."
"Agree." That special moment was interrupted by the twins.
"Give it back!" Alton started to chase Adora.
"No! It's mine." Adora yelled back while they were running.
"You broke yours. That one is mine, so give it back!" Alton protested.
"Mommy!" Adora nestled herself between Alex and Lee.
Alex sighed, "So much for enjoying the moment." She scolded her, "He's right. I haven't had a chance to get you another one." Alton stuck his tongue at her. Alex glared at her 6 year old son, "Alton! Seriously?"
"Sorry." He grabbed the toy out of Adora's hand and walks back to his room. Adora also leaves.
Alex just shakes her head, "I've never seen Alton do that." The twins were in school now.
Lee sat there watching the twins then turned to look at his wife "I think maybe we should have a talk with their teacher and see what's going on."
'I agree. I'll make the arrangements." Alex chuckled, "Welcome to parenthood." She place her hand on her growling stomach, "I don't know about you but I am starving. Why don't we gather up our children and head to the promenade for dinner."
Lee nodded then stood up "Sure, don't know about you but think I'll go change out of my uniform."
"Good idea." Alex went to where the kids where playing, "You two, put your stuff away. We're leaving soon to go eat." She then joined Lee in the bedroom to change her clothes as well."
Lee had finished buttoning his dress pants and was buttoning a shirt "So...if someone told you 10 years ago that you would be married another time and have more kids, what would you have told that person?"
"You know, after the crap that Ruben put me through and taking my son away from me, I didn't want to have anything to do with men but then you came along and showed me that not all men are scumbags." She smiled, "So, I guess the answer to that would be, no way, you're crazy."
Lee looked over at her "I am glad that I managed to change your way of what other men are like." He chuckled "So you probably wouldn't have expected back then to have more kids either huh?"
Her thoughts went back again to her past, "The courts decided that Starfleet wasn't a good place to raise a child. So, I thought that I had to choose between a career in Starfleet or be a stay home mom. Then I saw Deela's kids and got to observe them. They were happy and well rounded. I asked Deela about it and she convinced me that I could have both and that it was okay." She paused for a moment, then smiled, "Of course, I didn't expect to have twins but I wouldn't change anything in my life." She finished dressing.
"Yes we can do both, and the courts where very wrong back then when they decided that." Lee smiled at her "I am glad that you wouldn't change anything."
Alex smiled, "Good. What about you?"
"No my wife, I wouldn't change anything." He looked at her "So...are we at our limit for having kids, or shall we have a couple more?"
Alex chuckled, "A couple? I'll tell you what. We'll go ahead and try for another one. If it happens within a few months of trying, then we can try again. I'm not getting any younger." She took his hand in hers, "How does that sound?"
Lee took hold of her hand looking at her "Sure that sounds good." He gave her a smirk "Maybe it'll be twins again."
Alex laughed, "It would certainly save time." Alex kissed Lee, "Have I told you lately that I love you?"
Lee kissed her back "It has been a couple minutes. I love you too."
A voice rang out in the other room, "Mommy! We're hungry." Alex smiled at Lee, "Are we crazy to have more kids?" She was joking, of course.
Lee called out to them "We are heading out now." He turned to Alex "Maybe just a bit."
Alex laughed, "Well, we'd better get going before we have a mutiny aboard." They left for the promenade.
