Mission:
Episode 114 - A Time and Place for Everything
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2 2100hrs
ON:
Mike watched the last of the ships return through the anomaly, as had everyone else in Ops. Now, was the really difficult part, waiting to see what would happen next. Several seconds passed, very very slowly. Finally, the anomaly seemed to flicker then a bright flash of light, and the anomaly seemed to collapse in on itself.
Mike looked around Ops as everyone started checking their monitors. Someone reported that the flash was a chronometric expulsion, and someone else confirmed it. Mike wasn’t even sure who was talking, he was so fixed on the viewer which now was showing the star field that had been present before the anomaly ever appeared.
How would they even know if everyone returned to their time anyway? Q had told him no one returning to their correct timeline would ever remember the events happened. A quick check of historical records seemed to confirm everyone from the past returned and went on the live the lives they were supposed to. It was impossible to verify anything for people returning to the future. A quick message to the USS Aventine confirmed that Captain Dax had no memory of the anomaly or being at Starbase 400, and her ship was the first to arrive and last to return.
After a few minutes, everyone seemed to relax as the tension left. A few people shook hands with their crewmates, and several pats on the back and ‘well done’ were passed out.
Mike let a relaxing smile cross his lips and as he turned to say something to T’Lar, he noticed a non-descript crewmember turning and walking toward one of the turbolifts. He'd seen that crewmember before.
Mike took a few steps toward him, and just as the lift opened Mike quietly called to the crewmember. “Mister Crusher.”
Turning around, the non-descript crewmember’s features became clear, at least to Mike, and Wesley smiled. “I knew you saw me.”
Mike smirked. “So you made your decision.” Mike inferred.
Wesley nodded, “I did, Travelling is where my heart is, as they say.”
Mike nodded.
“Besides, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to watch these events take place. Never in the history of this star trek we’re all on has something like this taken place, with so many people from the Federation’s history, and future, in one place and time. I commend you and your crew for finding a solution and getting everyone back to their own times.” Wesley explained. “I also hope Q brought you some peace, in his own way.”
Mike nodded again, “He did, and I’m eternally grateful. I don’t know if this is the last time I’ll see him, as he said, but if it is, it couldn’t have been better.”
Wesley nodded. “Well, I have places to go. Until we meet again, Admiral.” Wesley extended his hand and he and Mike shook and nodded in respect.
Wesley then turned, entered the turbolift, and flashed a smile as the doors closed. A moment later the door opened again, and the lift was empty.
Mike let a smile cross his lips as he turned back toward the rest of Ops. “Deela, you have Ops, I’ll be in my ready room.”
