Mission: Episode 114 - A Time and Place for Everything
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD3, 0800hrs

ON:

Mike was in his office, reading over a PADD K'Temoc had handed him.

"She's sure she wants to swap his command from the Buccaneer to the Cushing?" Mike asked.

K'Temoc nodded, "According to the request."

Mike sat the PADD down.

"She can still handle Strategic Ops missions with a Nova class ship, I just wouldn't recommend it being to hostile territory. The Nova is a good scout, science ship, not a combat vessel." K'Temoc added.

Mike glanced up at his younger brother as to say, 'I know' before they both laughed.

Mike tapped his commbadge, "Commander Grian, report to my office please."

"On my way sir, Grian out."

10 minutes later, Grian rang the door chime of the Fleet Admiral's office and waited patiently.

"Enter." Mike said as the doors opened.

"Command, come in, have a seat please." Mike paused for Grian to walk in and sit. "Admiral K'Temoc tells me you want to change your command from the Buccaneer to the Cushing. Can you tell me why?"

"Consider it an explorers itch, Sir. I have the desire explore rather than to patrol. I know it doesn't make much sense and you are well with your rights as my commanding officer to reject my request and I will of course respect your decision, but when I joined Starfleet, my ultimate goal was to command a ship built to explore. " She decided that was as much as she could say for the moment. Best not to waffle on.

Mike gave a little nod, then looked over at K'Temoc who also nodded. "With that in mid, would you prefer a new primary position instead of Assistant Chief Strategic Operations Officer or do you think you can continue with that role as well?"

"A primary position? Would you mind elaborating on that, sir? I have pondered this question and should my request be approved, it's something I would like to focus on. "

K'Temoc spoke up, "With Assistant Chief of Strat. Ops, patrol and scouting is a focus. With you wanting to shift that to exploring, it's really not in that role."

Mike nodded, "To be honest, we really don't have a 'explorer' position." Mike thought for a moment, "With tensions leveling off, we could re-allocate the Strategic Operations department a little and give them some close-in exploration and scouting assignments. Then have the SOG handle any patrol or scouting into hazardous areas."

K'Temoc nodded.

"Command transfer approved." Mike said, then handed Grian a PADD with the official order.

Grian took the padd. "Thank you sir. If there are no other matters you would like discuss, I would like to get started with the Cushing."

"Sure. She arrived her just before the anomaly event, so she needs a full inspection and probably an full systems overhaul." Mike replied. "Dismissed."

Once Grian left, K'Temoc shifted his feet as he leaned against the wall." When where you going to tell me?

"About?" Mike asked.

"You're change in command too." K'Temoc said with a smirk.

Mike paused a moment, confused, then he realized what his brother was talking about. "Ah, Starfleet's reassignments and fleet allocations."

"Commanding Officer of the Fourth Fleet, again. Has a nice ring to it." K'Temoc said.

"It makes sense to have a single fleet unit assigned to the Ares Operations Area. Some of the cross command issues are eliminate." Mike replied. "There's other changes coming after the first of the year too."

K'Temoc nodded. "I think 2399 is going to be a good year."

Mike smiled. "I do too."
