Meeting of the Minds

Posted on Thu Apr 5th, 2012 @ 4:04am by Commodore Andrew Clifford & Admiral Deela T'Lar & Captain R'nard Lokran

1,177 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: T'Lar's Office
Timeline: Present

Deela had settled in and the kids seemed to be enjoying the starbase. Vincent, her husband started writing again and all seemed to be good with her family.

She had already checked on King and Brislan and she heard that Hurd was doing just as well. It was time for Clifford and Lokran to b e updated as to what was happening on the base. She felt that it was important to step up the security on the base, keeping an eye on the Andorians.

As for Clifford, she just wanted to touch base with him and show him where his office was. They needed to discuss a few things as well.

=^= T'Lar to Commander Clifford and Lt. Commander Lokran. Please meet me in my office at your convenience." She sat in her chair in front of the computer console, trying to learn more about the area of space they are working.

"On my way." said Lt. Commander Lokran. He had been working out in the gym when the message came through.

A few minutes later he was chiming the door.

Deela looked up, "Enter."

Andrew was a little slower replying and when he entered the Admirals office, Lt Commander Lokran was already there.
"Sorry I'm a bit on the drag, Admiral. I never realised shore leave could be so paperwork intensive"

Deela chuckled, "It's okay. Have a seat." She waited for them to sit, "I hope the both of you have settled in okay."

R'nard sat down and nodded. "Yes, Admiral, I have settled in fine. I was just doing a workout at the gym here when you called."

Deela nodded as he spoke.

Andrew took his queue when R'nard finished, "I haven't had much time to get onto the station, Admiral. I have spent most of the time getting to know the ship and organising shore leave. it is very different to the Sovereign Class, but still a very good ship."

Deela nodded, "Yes it is. I haven't had the time to spend on the Essex. I've spent most of my time here, trying to get familiar with this area of space. It's been quite interesting reading."

Deela sat back in her chair and addressed R'nard, "I do have some concerns that I'd like to discuss with you. There has been an incidence involving an Andorian Vessel. They were attacked and many of the crew were injured. King and Brislan are working on their injured as we speak. Captain Harrison is on a mission and away from the station. She wanted to meet with you before she transferred control to you but unfortunately, she won't be able to. She's just not sure how long she will be gone. She's cleared out her office of her belongings and it's ready for you. So I guess this officially makes you the Chief Security and Tactical Officer."

"I am honored, but I regret not being able to meet with her. Any more about the Andorian vessel, Admiral?" said R'nard.

"The Andorian vessel has docked and the crew are very angry that nothing is being done to stop the raids. I need you to up security just in case one of them takes their anger on someone else. I'm probably being overly cautious but I don't like to take chances."

"It is a wise precaution, as Andorians are prrone to violence. I will get on it rrright away." said the Tralazar.

Deela smiled, "Good."

Andrew listened to the conversation and at a suitable point he looked at the Admiral, "Is there any history to this attack, Admiral, or is it a single event?"

"According to reports, there are pirates led by an ex-Starfleet officer named Clark that have been and still are attacking vessels within The Triangle. He's managed to get the majority of the pirates to band together. Because it isn't Federation space, our hands are tied. What's even more interesting is that a former Lt. Cmdr. Westmoreland and 2nd Lt. Jim Hawking are also working with the pirates."

R'nard frowned. "It makes me wonder why the people in Special Forces haven't contacted me about this. It's the very thing we're called in to work on."

"You'll have to take that up with Starfleet and Admiral Bremer. I'm afraid that the Essex didn't deal with situations as this. If you need anymore information on it, I'm sure Admiral Bremer wouldn't mind discussing things further."

Andrew looked from one to the other as he spoke, "Perhaps the special forces aren't being involved yet, R'nard. My concern is the number of ex-starfleet personnel involved with the pirates. They have first hand knowledge of our methods and how to combat them. What about the Romulans and Klingons? are they not interested in ending this? I would have thought a joint task force if only with Klingon and Federation input would be enough to end this. I am of course assuming we know where their base is, and that it is not inside Romulan space."

Deela realized that she didn't know as much about this situation as she thought. She had more questions than answers. She sighed silently to herself, "I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know as much as I should. I really haven't had the chance to discuss anything with Bremer. The Andorian vessel and other issues have kept him busy. I've heard that the USS Laffey is supposed to patrol the Triangle but they haven't left yet." She paused for a moment, "I can't help feeling a bit useless here. Maybe we should take the Essex and check the area out for ourselves. I think I will suggest it to him."

"That is a good idea, Ma'am." said R'nard.

Andrew nodded, It will be good to give the crew something to do. It's great having a regular base to work from, but it would not be good to be idle for any length of time. It's easy to get rusty."

"Lt. Commander Lokran, go ahead and check in at Security, get situated in your new office and I'll let you know if we are going to take the Essex to the Triangle to check things out."

"On my way. I will also use my channel to speak with Admiral Bremer." said R'nard. As was his usual manner, he left quietly. He usually came and went unnoticed.

She watched her Chief of Security leave before addressing Clifford, "Commander Clifford, I'll let you know as well. Any excuse to take the Essex out."

Watching the door close, then looked back at the Admiral. "Good, I'll make sure the ship is ready to leave"

"Now, onto other business." Clifford and T'Lar continue to talk.
