Episode 113 - No One Left Behind
Location: SB 400
Timeline: Current
Xalanth had a smile on his face as he did his rounds, it helped the civilian population to see the chief of security willing to slug it out with his men doing the dirty work of keeping the station safe.
Buying some meatballs from one of the earth food vendors the lizard began munching on them as he made his way around the stations ring.
A young boy approached the Chief of Security, "Excuse me sir, there is a lady over there." he points. "I don't think she's well. She keeps telling people her name is Raekwon but that's a man's name. She is acting all funny. " he said looking rather shy.
" Lead on son." The lizard said as he followed the boy. Coming across a small crowd he began carefully moving past. " Make way station security." He said calmly to which the crowd began to pass.
Deezell turned around to see Xalanth approaching. They had known each other before when he had to help with some altercations in Raekwon's gallery, but right now, for some reason, Deezell was having trouble working out who she was.
"Hey, Xalanth, nice to see you. Its been a while. Last time I we met, you helped me deal with some unruly customers in my gallery. " Deezell said as she gave him a manly hug.
" Gallery...." Xalanth puzzled as he began running through things in his head.
"The Serenity Gallery on the promenade. My shop." Deezell replied. She started to feel light headed and seemed to be aimlessly looking around the room.
" Vox?" Xalanth mind jumped to what had happened clearly now. Looked like the new host of the Vox symbiote was struggling to adapt to the new host. " It's been a while hasn't it." he replied calmly.
Deezell just made a sound "Uh" and collapsed into a heap on the floor.
Xalanth swore in his own tongue which didn't translate as he hurriedly scooped her up. " Medbay seven incoming patient Trill most likely suffering from isoboramene levels." He yelled into his communicator as he took of at a pace.
Groggy as hell, Deezell woke up on a biobed with the bright lights of sickbay above her. "What? Where?" she said as she tried to focus from the bright lights.
" Easy" came a calm and pressuring voice. It's owner was a Vulcan in the standard medical uniform who looked oddly familiar.
" How are you feeling?" She asked as she walked over to her patient. Gleaming on her arm was a bracelet very similar to the one Xlanth worn on his.
"Very groggy and my head is ringing. What am I doing here?" Deezell asked.
" You collapsed out on the promonada. Xalanth brought you here. May I ask how long has it been since you were joined?" the vulcan inquired camly.
"Erm I think its been about 8 months, why?"
" And do you know your name." the doctor said writing something on a padd.
"My name is Deezell, Deezell Vox. "
" Nice to meet you Deezell I'm T'para." the doctor replied warmly. " Your Isoboramine is incredibly low. Xalanth found you believing you were your previous host."
"Oh god, I must have looked so silly. Oh dear. The symbiosis commission did say that this could happen as I haven't had the training. I had to join with the symbiont as their health was deteriorating when we tried to get them back to Trill for a new trained host. Is there anything you can do to bring my Isoboramine levels back to normal?" Deezell asked looking worried.
T'para nodded. " We have medications that can help, but I will be needing to inform the trill symbiotic commission about this. They do know more about this than me."
"Of course. Am I likely to be here a while?" Deezell asked.
" We'd like to keep you here for a while just to monitor you and when we can hear back from trill. " T'para replied as the stations security chief stepped in.
" Hello there Deezell I hope my first has been treating you well.." He said giving a playful look to the doctor which was returned in a wholely un vulcan behaviour.
"Absolutely. I'm so sorry about all this. They say good first impressions are vital and boy what a mess I made of this one." She replied.
" Think nothing off it. When I first met my third she stabbed me in the side." The lizard replied with a chuckle at his memory.
"Wait, she stabbed you? What for?" Deezell enquired with curiosity.
" She was undercover and I was to join her. All done up as a gorn weapons smuggler. " Xalanth explained as he ran his hand over his head spikes. That had been a painful procedure to go through. " She's on the stage of this seedy bar just out of federation space. As she finishes her song I step up to greet her and I get a blade through my side. Turns out he owed her quite a lot of money. She apologised after realising I was her backup."
"Interesting. I'm nothing special in comparison. Plain Deezell Vox. Engineer and propulsion specialist, who can't get to grips with being joined and ... " She then just burst into tears. "I had to save the symbiont and now I'm a hopeless mess " she said sobbing.
" Don't say that Deezell." Xalanth said giving her a reassuring shoulder squeeze. "You're a young woman who turned her life upside down to protect the memories of something dear to her people. Your courage is to be admired."
"Yeah. I have memories of events I haven't done. They are the memories of the previous hosts. I have memories of experiences I haven't had myself like having a baby. It's so weird." She replied
" I'm sure we can help you just. "Xalanth said calmly. " Now I'm going to contact Trill and find out what we need to do to help you Deezell. If you ever want to talk I want you to call me or T'para straight away." he said in a calming and pressuring tone.
"I will and I do appreciate it. I do think I will be here a while based on two factors. 1. I don't know where my uniform and other clothes are and 2. This gown doesn't fasten at the back. " She said smirking.
" We'd like to keep you here for a few days to keep an eye on you." T'para explained. " I can get you a fresh uniform if you want one." She added.
"No it's fine. I should take the opportunity of this time to relax and unwind. I've been using work to avoid dealing with the issues I have been having since being joined. " Deezell replied
" Okay. We'll move you to the main hospital in a few hours." T'para added reassuringly.
"There is a good chance that, when you contact Trill, they might send someone from the Symbiosis Commission or from the Caves of Mak'ala, one of the Guardians or both. " Deezell commented.
" That's what I'm hoping for." T'para replied calmly. " Your people are still rather secretive with the medical information regarding the symbionts."
"Yes, that is true. To be honest, I don't really know much myself as I haven't had the training and or done any research myself as I did not plan to apply to the Commission till after my Starfleet career was stable. " Deezell explained.
" Well we'll help you as best as we can to adjust. It can't be easy for you." T'para reply came
"I have good days and bad days but the bad days are decreasing in number. " Deezell replied
"The Guardians, who are unjoined Trill's have an ability to be able to communicate with the symbiont whilst its in one of the pools in the caves and also by simply placing their hand over my abdomen. Those who are found have this gift, are likely to become guardians at some point in their lives. Is there any chance I could get off this bed and have a walk around. I promise not to do a runner." Deezell added.
" Just don't leave the medbay." T'para replied with a warm smile.
"Oh very well, but can someone please fasten this gown at the back, I don't want to flash anyone. " Deezell remarked.
T'para nodded as she moved to tie the gown up.
"Thank you. Much appreciated. So to give you some peace of mind while I am up and about, if you have one, you could put a monitor on me to keep an eye on my isoboromine levels." Deezell suggested.
" That we can do." The hybrid doctor responded as she returned with one of the neck monitors which she applied to the woman's neck.
"Thanks" Deezell replied hopping off the biobed. She then began a wander around the medbay, stretching her legs, all the while trying not to worry herself about what was going on. Despite her lack of training, she knew she could very well be called back to Trill if the visit from the Symbiosis Commission and a Guardian was fruitless.
She was all for getting things well again but felt she was being a burden on the medical staff on Starbase 400. After around an hour, she was looking out of a window in the medbay and was feeling light headed and somewhat disoriented. The green light on her neck monitor kept changing to amber.
T'para was at her side in seconds. " Easy let's get you onto a biobed." she said calmly.
Deezell turned to T'para. "Hmmmm? But the stars are so pretty." She replied, pointing to the window.
" Your reading are getting low. Don't want you taking a tumble do we." the hybrid replied.
"I guess not. I need to see a guardian. " Deezell replied.
Thex helped her onto a biobed as she ran another scan on her. Nothing wrong with her she thought as it moved the symbiote. With a spike in reading, she found her answer. " I think I have it. Does the symbiote have any allergic reactions?"
"They can, yes. But I'm not sure if I was advised of any when I had to be joined in the emergency to ensure the survival of Vox. Why? You don't think I am suffering from a reaction to whatever was tried to save Raekwon's life?" Deezell asked.
" Not you. The symbiote on the other hand seems to be suffering from one. If I'm reading this right it was most likely the Nizotinoin." She said walking over and replicating a hypospray shot. " Here lay back this should help."
Deezell laid back and relaxed as the Dr gave her the shot. "How long does it take to take affect? " She asked
" Thirty minutes to go through your blood and into his. Just lay back and relax." T'para replied reassuringly.
"Okay I will do my best. This whole experience has been a bit much. Another reason why the going through the initiate program is a good idea. I didn't get to do that. Thank you doctor for your help. " Deezell replied.
" Just doing my job." T'para replied with a smile.
"I think something is working as I'm feeling more myself, and the background headache has gone. " Deezell replied smiling.
" Just lay back and relax. If everything goes well you should be out of here in a few hours." The doctor responded feeling rather happy she'd figured it out.
"Great. Do I still need to speak to or see someone from the Symbiosis Commission?" Deezell asked.
The hybrid nooded. " I'm afraid so. They will need to know about the symbiont's reaction and your memory problems."
"Oh great. I was hoping I wouldn't have to. " Deezell replied with a sigh.
" Hey I have to fill out the paperwork." T'para replied trying to cheer her up.
"Make sure you dot your i's and cross your t's because they will want it done properly. " Deezell replied with a smirk. "Is there chance I could get something to drink? My mouth is feeling rather dry. A pink grapefruit juice would be great." She added.
T'para nodded as she disappeared before returning with the drink. " You just lay back and......." T'para began before a red light began flashing. " Incoming emergency I've got to go." She explained before running off to help her team.
Dee took the glass before T'para dashed off. She sat up and took a sip. "Oh so nice and refreshing" she uttered.
After about an hour, T'Para had not returned, and Deezell as feeling fine but restless and ready to get out of sickbay.
T'para finally returned drinking a very large glass of water. " Sorry about that. how are you feeling?" She inquired.
"No apologies necessary. I'm feeling pretty good at the moment." Deezell replied.
The doctor walked over and checked her readings. "Everything looking well. If you agree to have a monitor I can realise you." She said cheerfully.
"Absolutely. I'd like to get back to work. I'm sure my team have been saving me some fun jobs to do ". Deezell replied.
The hybrid smiled as she retrieved one of the neck monitors before attaching it to the trills neck. After making sure it was connected she gave her the thumbs up. "You're free to go. Call someone from medical if you feel any dizziness."
"Will do. Thanks for everything. " Deezell said smiling as she left medbay.
