770 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Episode 113 - No One Left Behind
Location: USS Yorktown-F
Timeline: MD2 1310hrs

ON:

The Yorktown was in formation with the Pegasus and others, on the way to the Dewa system. They had departed Starbase 400 a few hours earlier and still had several hours to go before they reached the Romulan border.

K’Wor kept checking the time, tapping his foot, and shifting in his chair.

“You okay?” Danielle asked from the Science station.

“Me? Yeah, yes ma’am.” K’Wor replied.

“What’s going on K’Wor?” K’Temoc asked from the CO’s chair using his 'Uncle' tone of voice. “You haven’t been this nervous since your first mission.”

K’Wor lowered his head, then turned to tell K’Temoc about Christopher when he saw his younger brother cautiously enter through the port egress.

“Don’t be made at him Uncle K, he was covering for me.” Christopher said.

K’Temoc looked back and nearly jumped out of his seat. “Chris, what in the hell are you doing here?”

Christopher walked over to stand beside K’Wor, “I…I snuck aboard before leaving Starbase 400. I wanted to…needed to know what going on a mission was like. And…”

“No ands. You realize how angry your Dad’s going to be?” K’Temoc asked.

Christopher nodded. “Yes sir, but K’Wor, you, Dad, you’ve all been teaching me and my Klingon and martial arts training has been going well, and my grades are good. You’ve all told me I’m even ahead of where you were at my age, and…”

“That’s still no excuse for you to be here. What will you do if there’s an engagement?” K’Temoc asked.

“Whatever you ask me too. I can protect myself," he puffed out his chest, "and I know how to use the tactical systems, and…” Christopher started to explain.

“I know, I do.” K’Temoc replied understandly.

“What if the ship is boarded by Romulans or Remans that are twice your size?” Danielle asked, concerned.

Christopher nodded, “You’re right Aunt Danielle, but it’s not always about who’s bigger.”

“Like I told you, if something happens to you, Dad will be devastated.” K’Wor added.

“I know, but if I go to the Academy and the ship I’m assigned to is sent on a mission? He can’t keep me in a bubble.” Christopher replied.

K’Temoc tapped a few buttons on his right display. A moment later the bridge of the Pegasus-C appeared with Mike sitting in the middle. “Pegasus here, everything okay?”

K’Temoc glared at Christopher who slowly stepped over into view. “Hi Dad.”

Mike jumped up from his chair and stepped closer to the Pegasus’s viewer. “Christopher Brian Bremer, what in hells name are you doing aboard that ship?”

“Don’t blame Uncle K or K’Wor, I stowed away.” Christopher replied. He didn’t even try to explain further.

Mike glared at his thirteen year old son through subspace. He really wasn’t angry, in a small way he was even a little proud. It wasn't anything he himself hadn't done when he was younger. However having him here on this mission made him nervous and upset. Christopher didn’t have the training, experience, or knowledge enough to be in a situation like this…but here he was…and dropping him in a shuttle and sending him back to Starbase 400 wasn’t an option at this point.

Mike continued to glare for a moment before he let out a breath. “Did you know about this?”

“Not until he stepped onto the Bridge.” K’Temoc replied.

“I meant K’Wor.” Mike snapped back.

“No sir, well, yes sir. I found him in my quarters just before we departed.” K’Wor replied.

“Then he is your responsibility, and you and I will have a talk when we get back to the Station.” Mike replied after a long pause.

“Yes sir.” K’Wor replied. He knew that ‘talk’ would be of the father/son type, but it would include the Fleet Admiral/Lieutenant type as well.

“I’ll keep him safe.” K’Temoc added, in hopes to set Mike’s mind at ease a little more.

Mike took another deep breath, he knew he needed to focus on the mission at hand. “Pegasus out.”

K’Temoc took a seat back in his chair then stared K’Wor and Christopher down for a moment. “Don’t just sit there, show him how Tactical really works.”

“Yes sir.” K’Wor replied.

“Thank you.” Christopher replied with a smile.

Danielle looked at her husband with concern, while K’Temoc gave her a reassuring nod.
