Deela was working on some reports when her mom called her. “Hi hun. I was worried about you and wanted to talk to you about Jack. Have you found him yet? ”
Deela was surprised. She hadn’t heard from her mom for a while, “Hi mom. Right now, there is no news on Jack. But I have people looking for him now.”
Her mom frowned, “I'm sorry dear to hear that I hate that you're going through this right now. So how are you holding up?”
Deela Looked in the background to see if her dad was standing there. She knew that he would disapprove of her showing emotions, “Truthfully? Not too good. I miss him, I really do.”
“Well, I would hope so.” Her mom smiled, “You know, there is nothing wrong with having emotions. You are my daughter and there is nothing you can do about it. You can't change who you are.”
Deela sighed, “I guess that Dad has trained me very well in the Vulcan way. You know what he would say.”
“Oh, I know what he would say. And then I'd remind him that you are also Betazoid and human. Your father puts up this Vulcan facade but I've seen him show emotion when he thought no one was looking. He hides it very well from others but I am married to the man and I've been married to him for a long time. He doesn't have me fooled.”
Deela put down her Vulcan façade completely, “I am worried that I'm going to lose him. I've lost too many men to unfortunate deaths. I can't go through this again. I can't!” She didn't like feeling this vulnerable.
“I know dear I know. I wish I could be there for you and I'm sure your dad would want to be there too. To say the word and will come.”
“There's nothing you can do mom. It would be a moot point for you to come.” She wiped a tear from her eye, I will keep you updated.
“Okay dear.” Her mom sighed, “Alright then, please don't be a stranger. And do not hesitate to call if you need us. ” Lita tried to assure her daughter, “And don't worry about your father. Like I told him, if you didn’t want a child of yours to have emotions, then you should not have married a Betazoid slash human.”
Deela chuckled, “It’s amazing. You CAN be logical once in a while.”
Lita smiled, “Yes, I can be. I've been married to the man long enough. Logic had to rub off on me sometime.”
Deela nodded, “I love you mom.”
Lita smiled and was surprised herself to hear her daughter say that. She didn't say it often, if ever, “I love you too. I will talk to you later. ”
Deela sat back in her chair and took a deep breath, then exhaled loudly. It felt good to be able to let out the feelings she was holding back. Now that she was free, she needed to find out what progress the search party has so far.
