Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: Science/Medical
Timeline: Current
Tressa walked down the corridor, looking for Sickbay and the medical offices. She knew she was close when she saw the doorway marked 'Science Lab I.' She slowed down, reading the doorways as she went.
Jonathan was sitting at one of the consoles on the far wall when he heard the doors to the lab open and he saw a female officer walk in. He wasn't sure who it was, so he assumed it must have been one of the new crew members that came aboard with the Essex. He got up and walked over to introduce himself.
He extended a hand and said, "Hi, I'm Commander Jonathan Coleman, Chief Science Officer."
"Lieutenant Commander Tressa Brislan, your new Assistant Chief Medical Officer," she said as she shook his hand with a embarrassed smile. "Assuming I can find my office that is!"
He smiled and laughed for a second before saying, "Don't worry, I did the same thing when I first came aboard many years ago. I can help you find your office if you'd like?"
"I'd appreciate that, Commander, but I don't want to inconvienence you," Tressa said. She looked around the lab, taking in the sleek state-of-the-art equipment. "You certainly have some impressive tech, I hope I'm not interrupting."
He smiled again before saying, "Nah, you're not interrupting me. I was actually just finishing up. I've been working with Federation scientist until here recently on Andorian Biology. With the recent health scare, they asked for anyone who could help and was in reach. But, I just finished up for now, so it won't be any interruption. You want to follow me?" He smile and lead her out of the lab and down the hall a little ways.
Tressa walked after him, sidestepping to avoid a young man in a labcoat who almost ran into her.
"I must have taken the long way around," she said. "I don't remember sickbay being near all these labs when I checked the map, but its easy to get lost in a place this big."
Coleman looked at the man in the lab coat and said, "Well, we've have a lot of rooms for like Denistry and different types of medicine, so I can understand getting lost in a place like this. I could never get used to seeing so many people and rooms after working on a starship."
Tressa chuckled, "It is a bit overwhelming, Commander. I just hope to be able to report to Medical on my own next time," she said as they walked. "I gather you've been assigned here for a long time?"
He chuckled and gave a sly little smile before saying, "Yeah, it's been almost five years I've been assigned to Starbase 400. I came aboard as the Chief Diplomatic Officer first before switching to Chief of Science. Wierd move, I know, but I felt more at home in the sciences."
They moved past a couple of lab techs before Coleman asked, "How long have you been aboard the Essex?"
"I started as a nurse two years ago, and was promoted to medical officer," she said. "I'm currently taking pilot training lessons with Commander Clifford, his patience willing. Prior to the Essex I had a nice quiet assignment at the Academy, but I wouldn't want to go back to it now. Life on a starship is never dull, Commander," she said with a smile. "I'm sure it never is here either."
He kind of chuckled as he said, "Oh, it's quite interesting around here. Once, soon after the Pegasus got here and started its mission onboard the starbase, the entire starbase had a blackout. Apparently, like the Orion Syndiciate or somebody wanted something or someone off the starbase and had the entire thing planned out, but luckily enough, the crew was able to get them off without much harm or anything. So, as you can see, we do have...an interesting time on the base."
"Interesting, that's one way to put it," she said softly. She remembered the stories she'd heard about life on the borders of the Federation, and reminded herself to take a refresher course in self-defense. She had children to think of, after all.
"Truth be told, I wouldn't object to a little quiet," she said, "At least until I've settled in. The Essex only just left dock a few weeks ago, the bugs are barely worked out." She smiled at a woman holding an infant.
"Have you been to the planet? It looks lovely from the observation decks," she asked.
He smiled as he thought back. He remembered that it was a lovely planet both from orbit and from planetside. He said, "Yeah, it's amazing from planetside, just as beautiful as it is from up here. I'd say if you get a chance, go and visit the city of Radford. It has quite a few places for people of all ages to go and see and it's not too far from the capital of the planet either."
"I'll do that, Commander," she said. "I hope there's some good hiking there. I'd really like to take my neice and nephew on a hike, and maybe camp for a night. I want them to experience some of the things that I did at their age."
"Your niece and nephew are onboard with you?" he asked with a gentle smile on his face. He remembered that he always wanted kids, but never really settled down to have them.
"Yes, they live with me on the Essex. Six-year old twins, as different as two kids can be. I never thought I'd get used to having them, now I can't imagine being without them," she said. She looked up as they approached the huge doors of the Sickbay. "Well, here it is, right where it's supposed to be," she said with a teasing grin.
He gave a teasing grin back as they walked into sickbay and said, "Yup, right where it's suppose to be. If you need anything else, just let me know."
"Thank you, Commander, it was very nice talking with you," Tressa said, extending her hand to Jonathan.
He extended his hand to shake hers before saying, "Nice meeting you as well." With that, they said their goodbyes and they got to their duties.
