Mission: Episode 109 - The Dust Settles
Location: Sickbay

ON:

Miaxi had been a little blown away to find out how many levels sickbay took up on the station. Then she had reminded herself just how large the station was, and that it likely needed all those levels.

With a good night's sleep behind her, she headed down. Physicals were something that some people avoided, but she saw them as necessary and important. She had always been on good terms with the doctors on the ships she served on, and expected it would be no different here.

As she walked into main sickbay, she wondered how many doctors supported this station, and looked around, trying to catch someone's eye.

Today was general duty day for Alekelia. That meant basically routine rounds, appointments and general medical practices. It was sometimes a nice change of pace from emergencies though those still cropped up here. She liked it though because in general it was the little things to catch and one had much fuller interaction with patients. The schedule was not too bad and she went to catch the next patient. The nurse handed her a PaDD and Alekelia looked over it for a moment. She then went out to the general area and called, "Lieutenant Miaxi Etaalu, trying not to put too much of the Akkadian sing song and pronunciation into it. Still it came out more as Meee'ahh'ssseee, Eee't'ahhhllll'uuu with a rise in pitch from the beginning to the end like the swell of wave on the ocean.

It took a moment for Miaxi to recognize the musical tones as her name, but as soon as she did she stood up. "That's me." she said, moving toward the doctor. Her voice was a little more musical, an unintentional result of the way her name had been pronounced; the two words she had spoken were two different tones. She didn't even notice it. "Hi." she said as she approached, her voice stabilizing somewhat. "Your nurses are very good. One grabbed me almost as soon as I walked in."

"Ah well, mostly just to keep people from wandering about. Anyway, Lieutenant, let's find a bed and get you checked out. I am looking over things but not everything is always up to date hence the check ins. I see you are Betazoid, if I may ask, are you currently in a mental linkage?"

"I am not mentally connected with anyone, either for a future marriage, or to communicate telepathically." Miaxi replied.

"Very good, have you had any headaches, problems sleeping, anything to indicate having mental problems. Not in outlook but physiological. Betazoid mental structure is actually complicated but fascinating. Any particular problems I should be aware of that may have developed lately?"

"No, nothing I have noticed." the Betazoid answered. She looked around as they walked to a nearby biobed, trying to take in some of the faces.

"Very good," Alekelia made a notation on the PaDD. She sighed slightly. "I know everyone hates these things. I do as well. It seems so sterile but I like to get to know new people as well." She paused then patted the biobed. "For example," she got the scan ready. "I like to sing and water dance."

"Then we have something in common." Miaxi replied. "I also like to sing, as well as play the piano. I enjoy gardening, and practicing my martial art, jujitsu. What is water dancing?"

"Oh!" Alekelia exclaimed. "I forget at times not everyone knows things that are familiar to me." She stepped away and then looking around opened those four gossamar wings and then with a little hop hovered a half metre or so above the floor. She made some moves with her arms moving gently and swaying just a bit.
"It is the balance of wind and wave. One normally would just let ones feet just touch the ocean and then dance on the water using one's wings to compensate for wind, the surge of wave." She landed and then seemed embarrassed. "I am sorry I let myself get unprofessional."

Miaxi's eyes were wide. "That's quite all right." she let herself relax after the delightful surprise. "I bet it's not often someone asks you that question. You have beautiful wings, Doctor."

Alekela again apologized. "I should not do that here, but thank you. Now then, nothing new for your health. All we have left is the scan for new baseline to compare and then we are done." She indicated for the Lieutenant to lay back and then got started.

Miaxi lay still for the scan. While she had never been seriously injured, she had been in sickbay a few times for minor injuries, and understood the need for a baseline scan. Her mind strayed briefly to the two woman they had found in stasis on the freighter; it was possible they were here in sickbay right now. She wanted to check the paperwork first, but might find herself back down here.

Alekela looked at the results and nothing looked out of normal parameters and matched pretty closely with what she had in the database of the Lieutenant from the transferred data. "Very good," she said and then tapped on the PaDD and offered it. "You are all medically checked in. Welcome...." she paused and then shyly said, "if you would like I would love to hear you sing and or sing with you sometime."

Miaxi smiled. "I'd really like that." she took the PaDD. "I like this posting already, but I think it's going to be a lot of work. I'll send you a message when I know my schedule a little better?"

"As would I," Alekelia made a small dip not really a formal curtsy but a little bend of the knees as a sign of respect. "Thank you, hope to met with you again."

"And I you." Miaxi replied, bowing her head before getting off the biobed. She smiled, and headed off to work.
