1,330 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: Episode 109 - The Dust Settles
Location: USS Buccaneer
Timeline: MD3 1200 hrs

Ezekiel looked over to Sarah Rodgers, his first officer. "Number One what can you tell me about Commander Grian?" Ezekiel asked, as they stepped on the transporter pad, waiting to beam aboard the newly minted U.S.S. Buccaneer.

Ezekiel knew that Sarah and Namia Grian, worked together in strategic operations when they were both on the station. Beyond that, he really did not know a lot about the new Captain of the Buccaneer.

"A good worker and conscientious," Sarah replied honestly. "Someone I respected and was willing to work hard. You knew that Commander Grain could be counted on." She wasn't going overboard, just being honest.

In the transporter room aboard the Buccaneer, Grian had just arrived, ready to receive her guests. She nodded to the transporter chief who began the process.

Ezekiel looked over to Sarah, and thought. That was a very generic response. He motioned for the transporter chief. "Are we ready?" He asked.

"Yes sir, the USS Buccaneer is ready to receive you sir." The transporter chief responded. As he started to initiate the program. He was waiting for the go-ahead order.

"Thanks, chief, energize," Ezekiel called out. In a sudden moment, they dematerialized from the USS Falcon and re-materialized on the USS Buccaneer. At first, everything appeared to be the same, as they both materialized in the transporter room of the sister ship.

Ezekiel looked around the room. Even though it looked similar, it had a different vibe and different personal waiting off the pad. Ezekiel assumed it was Commander Grian and the transporter chief.

"Commander Ezekiel Bagwell, and Lieutenant Commander Sarah Rodgers, requesting permission to come aboard Captain Grian," Ezekiel called out, with a big smile on his face.

"Granted. Commander Bagwell, Lieutenant Commander Rodgers. Welcome aboard the Buccaneer. " Grian replied with a smile. "My XO Lieutenant Commander Grayson would have been with me to greet you but he is currently detained dealing with the updates to our science suite. " She added.

"Thanks for taking this time to give us a tour, we are eager to get a walkthrough of our sister ship. Good to see the Starbase with two active interceptor class starships." Ezekiel said, with a big grin on his face. He had a feeling, after listening to Namia Grian talk about the science suit, that the ship probably had a few bugs to work out. So he was extremely grateful for this.

"No trouble at all and I could not agree more in regards to the two ships together. Where would you like to start the tour? From the bridge and work our way down perhaps?" Grian asked.

"It is good to see you again, Commander," Sarah said with a smile. She had worked with Namia and they had spent time together on the job as well as lunch hours.

"That works for me Captain, and I believe you have met my first officer, before," Ezekiel said, as he prepared to step off the transporter pad. "Permission to officially come aboard, Captain," Ezekiel said, almost forgetting to follow protocol.

"Yes of course and yes, I have met your XO before, lovely to see you again Lieutenant. Let's get that tour started, shall we? You probably know the way to the bridge seeing as the Buccaneer and the Falcon are not that different in layout just in decor, here and there." She commented.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Sarah murmured. She smiled at him. “It’s Lieutenant Commander.” She hoped Namia didn’t take offence at the correction but she was proud of her rank, she had worked hard to earn it.

"Good" Grian replied. She then noticed the rank pips on Sarah's collar. "Oh, my apologies Lieutenant Commander. It's been one of those days today" She said with a smile.

Ezekiel tried not to grin, but he knew he should make a small reference. "Now now Commander, rank is just rank. Perhaps the good captain was just testing to see how you would respond." Ezekiel said, in a calm and collected voice. "It has been a day, indeed for us. So tell me, Captain, how is the Buccaneer coming along?" Ezekiel asked, trying to change the topic lightly back to the reason they boarded the ship.

Grian leads her guests out of the transporter room. " Not bad so far. The shakedown cruise was a nightmare though. I am guessing you have either read the report or heard the story. " Grian commented as the three walked down a corridor to a nearby turbolift.

“I have heard about it,” Sarah replied with a smile. “But sitting around a table listening to others talk isn’t the same.” She looked at Grian. “I was glad to hear you came back in one piece.”

"Sounds like there is a story there to tell. Perhaps later on the tour, we can learn more about it." Ezekiel said, with a big grin on his face. He then continued on. "How long will it take to bounce back from the shakedown fiasco?" Ezekiel asked. The report was not very clear on that.

"Oh there is quite a story to tell, that is for sure. As for how long till the Buccaneer bounces back, that all depends on the updates to the science suites and the updates to the recently installed new navigation system. The estimate is about six days." Grian replied.

“Do you have all the assistance you need?” Sarah asked. She knows sometimes an extra pair of hands was needed.

"We have a lot of help at the moment but we never turn away willing volunteers," Grian replied.

"I can arrange for my officers and I to assist you, Captain, just let us know when and where, and will be more than happy to assist," Ezekiel said. He wanted to see the sister ship up and running as soon as possible.

Sarah was pleased to see how well they were all getting along, not that she was surprised. She looked around as they continued their tour. She wondered if pride was holding Grian back.

"Thank you. If you could get a small team together, I am sure my engineering team could do with the extra help." Grian replied.

"More than happy to help, my guys are itching for something to do. The Falcon is still in dry dock, the corps of engineers have completed primary repairs. I swear after the refits and modifications, it takes our engineers days sometimes weeks to re-tweak the systems." Ezekiel pointed out to Gain and Sarah. He had the manpower to spare and needed a task. Plus he did not mind getting his hands dirty.

“The captain is right,” Sarah said with a smile. “I’m fact, I have caught our chief in the engineering department of the Falcon doing some work ahead of time. She would like the work.”

"Well, you and your team are more than welcome to come aboard the Buccaneer and help us out." Grian replied.

Sarah smiled to herself. This tour was going well and it felt good to be able to help others as well. She waited for her captain to reply.

Ezekiel smiled as he said, "As soon as we are done with the tour, we will be more than happy to send them over to assist. Our ship is still with the corps of engineers. So they are looking for something to do."

"If they are, they are more than welcome to help us out on the Buccaneer." Grian smiled.

Sarah smiled at Grian’s reply. It was always good to accept help when offered. She couldn’t wait to assist them.

"They will gladly take you up on that. They are looking for things to do." Ezekiel said, with a big grin on his face. The scene starts to fade.

"They will be here before know it," Sarah added with a smile. "Thank you for the tour."

"I appreciate any help and not a problem at all. Anytime. " Grian replied.
