Episode 109 - The Dust Settles
Location: Local Diner on SB400
Timeline: MD3 1805 hrs
"What did you think of the Buccaneer?" Sam asked, as he stood by her side, as they walked into one of the local diners on the station.
“It is an impressive ship,” Sarah replied. “I would call it a sister ship to ours.” She smiled. “Of course I am partial to the Falcon and our crew.”
"I would hope so, otherwise you might be facing a transfer." Sam said in a teasing yet playful tone. He was not being serious. He was trying to have a little fun with her. "I have a feeling that the Captain would not take to lightly the first officer not taking partially to the ship she serves on."
Sarah laughed at his comment. “The captain doesn’t like change in his crew all that much. He is just getting me trained his way.”
"You are correct there, he does not like change. Sadly though, change is inevitable. Luckily though, its not today." Sam said, with a big cheesy grin on his face.
“I am not much of a fan either,” Sarah smiled. “I think we have an excellent crew and we all fit together well.”
"Fan of what exactly? Transferring or change?" Sam asked, knowing that was a tough question for anyone to answer.
“Change,” Sarah said with a smile. “Our crew is close and we’ve learned to work well together.” She looked at him. “So, I guess transfers go hand in hand with change.” If she were being even more forthcoming she was talking about Sam especially.
"Luckily no changes in the foreseeable future, so that’s a good thing." Sam pointed out to her, with a big smile on his face. He had no intentions of going anywhere.
“You are right,” Sarah said with a smile. “And I am glad for that. There appears to be a lot of romance in the air. If someone got transferred I have a feeling there would be some others requesting one as well.”
"Plus it would potentially ruin the atmosphere of the ship. Yes I know that transfers do happen, but I prefer, that we are given as much advance notice as possible." Sam suggested to Sarah, then he went on. "That way, we can prepare for it."
“I agree with you,” Sarah said with a smile. “And knowing Captain Bagwell, he would inform the crew immediately as well as work to keep them on board, unless of course it was a career advancement. He won’t stand in the way for anyone.”
"Have you thought about a command of your own?" Sam asked, curious to hear what her answer was going to be? He was not sure, if she did. So he wanted to know for sure.
“Yes,” Sarah said with a smile. “I know that one day I will have a command of my own.” She looked at him. “At the moment I am learning from you and gaining insight and experience for when it is my turn.”
"From me a polite, oh boy were both in trouble." Sam said, in a teasing grin. Why was she looking up to him, she should be looking up to Ezekiel.
“You among others,” Sarah said with a smile. “In order to be a good captain I have to study more than just the captain.”
"You are referring to Command School, heard the Command Academy can be challenging." Sam suggested to Sarah. He was still not sure, if he wanted to go.
“It is,” Sarah confirmed what he said. “But worth it in the long run in order to fulfill our ambitions.” She smiled. “I have always wanted to command a ship.”
"Please tell me its not a big cruiser, us fly boys like these smaller vessels. We like the maneuverability." Sam said, curious to see how she would respond.
“I want a sister to the Falcon,” Sarah confessed. “I would like to serve off the same base with the captain but who knows he may be an Admiral by then.”
Sam just grinned as he said, "Admiral Bagwell, well that does have a nice sound to it."
“He will make a good one,” Sarah said honestly. “But I bet he is hoping it’s a long way down the road.”
"Maybe that's true, I don't know for me it's hard to tell I really don't know the captain that well but then again I'm not his first officer." Sam stay with a big cheesy grin on his face knowing darn well that she was.
“I don’t see him wanting to be a pencil pusher,” Sarah admitted. “He is more hands on, being involved in the field, out making a difference.”
"I think would be true for most of us, I can't imagine being stuck behind to desk, pushing pencils doing admin work. My passion is flying this ship." Sam said in a reassuring voice.
“And mine is for command,” Sarah smiled. “But I would like to be an Admiral one day.” She looked at him. “Does that surprise you?”
"A little, but I could see you being an Admiral Bremmer someday." Sam said, with a big grin on his face.
Sarah grinned back at him. “It will be a long ways down the road. I don’t even dare think about it much for fear I will jinx myself.”
"I will be by your side helping you, if let me." Sam said, trying to tell her he was going no where, and would be there to support her. But also giving her the right to say no, if she wanted too. The future was hard to predict. Especially for relationships. He knew that he would be by herside, if she let him.
“I was really hoping you would say that,” Sarah said with a smile. “I want to share this journey with you, you’ve become very important to me and I find myself falling more for you every day.”
"Careful, you might sweep me off my feet." Sam said, in a teasing and loving grin. He was giving her a little grief, but in a teasing way.
“Careful?” Sarah smiled at him. “That is my goal, I am determined to succeed.”
"Never had a lady sweep me off my feet." Sam said, in a confident and sexy tone. He liked the idea of it. If anyone could, it would be her.
“I am hoping I will be the one and only,” Sarah confessed. She had deep feelings for him.
"You better believe it baby." Sam said, as the scene starts to fade away.
Sarah smiled at him, thinking they were on their way to a future together.
