Mission: Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: USS Yorktown, Bridge
Timeline: Current, just after leaving SB400

K`Temoc looked over at Pike, "I guess we do need to go over the particulars of this mission." The Captain looked over to O`Riely, "Chief?"

O'Riely stood, and walked toward the viewer for all in the bridge to see. "Ladies and gentlemen, what we're looking at," Hugh prompted the viewer to switch to a schematic of a modified Sydney Class ship, "is a ship capable of deploying cloaked mines in the hands of colonists who think their very lives and homes are at stake. From our estimates, such a weapon can deploy enough havoc in the neutral zone to make certain regions impassible for months with skilled deployment."

Hugh clicked the viewer over again, this time showing a schematic of a replicated mine. "This is the CM-101 cloaked mine. It's original intent was to destroy Jem'Hedar ships if a full scale invasion of the Sol System took place. After the war, the Federation wisely decided that such a weapon with it's replicating abilities and the modified ships that would deploy them were too risky to have in Starfleet's arsenal. In the interest of peace, the entire weapons package--ship and replicator system--was to be stored, and eventually would see the Sydney Class ships either restored to original specifications or destroyed."

A stern look overcame Hugh's face. "In the wrong hands, ladies and gentlemen, these weapons could unleash more havoc in the neutral system than we've seen in a very, very long time. We believe...we believe they could have twelve ships capable of deploying around twenty five hundred very high yield photon mines in a day. On the bright side, they're being operated by colonists. On the grim side, those colonists are being directed by former Starfleet officers."

He looked at the Captain, and nodded. "Questions?"

On one spoke up with any questions or concerns, so K`Temoc continued.

"Thank you Chief." He paused while Hugh took his seat, "As stated before, Starfleet Intel believes these ships are in the hands of the Colonists within the borders of the soon-to-be reformed Neutral Zone. It's bad enough that we might be facing some of our own technology being used against us, but Starfleet Command is more concerned with how the Romulans might react if one of their ships is damaged or destroyed by one of these mines. Possibly blaming the Federation for arming the Colonists and giving them reason to strike at us."

The Captain paused again to let the info sink in before continuing.

"Of course, another possibility is that these vessels could fall into the hands of Pirates operating within the Triangle. We all know the havoc that can be wrecked if that happens."

"Our job is to not only find these vessels, but to assess the status of the Colonies within the Neutral Zone borders. Are they planning to evacuate as ordered, or stay and fight."

He looked around at everyone on the Bridge...

"Let's get to work."
