The long road back

Mission: Episode 108 – Tragedies, Fortunes, and an Endgame
Location: Hades quarters

Having talked with Carolyn, Ariana wanted to check in with Hades. She didn’t like seeing him so lost and alone, even though he had his daughter with him he wasn’t the usual in command, confident Hades. Arriving at his quarters she pressed the door chime and waited for permission to enter.

Hades sighed. He leaned back on the sofa. Skye had gone off somewhere promising to be back and Michael had just left to ensure Kalani would be taken to the colony where his people could grieve her loss. "Enter." He called weakly.

Walking inside Ariana offered a smile. “Hi Hades, I hope I’m not intruding? I came to see how you were.”

"No. Not intruding." He said. "I just got back." He'd been seeing Kalani's body off. Michael would take her back to the colony. There would be a service here but she would lay in state back on the colony. He sat down. "Are you alright?"

Ariana nodded. “I’m fine” she smiled. “Just started breaking out the maternity wear alongside Carolyn. She’s worried about you and so am I, we don’t expect you to be running around like your usual self but you’ve been very quiet even for you!”

"I...I suppose." He said. He walked over to the replicator. "Can I get you something to drink?"

“Yes please” Ariana nodded. “Something sweet and fruity, I seem to have gotten quite a sweet tooth lately.”

He tapped a few keys and brought two drinks. "This is from the colony a favourite dessert."

“Thank you” Ariana smiled warmly as she took her drink and sipped it. “Mmmm ...Wow! This could seriously get to be a top contender on my favourites list!!” She grinned. “So how are you really? Don’t give me the big brave Hades bit either, I can see and feel how lost and in pain you are.” She paused. “After I lost Jonathon it felt like my world was gone, I just wanted the universe to open up a wormhole and suck me in! If it hadn’t have been for our plans to have a baby and the fact that I’d already been for ivf treatment, I’d have simply curled up and let myself go with him.”

"Sounds vaguely familiar." He muttered.

Ariana sipped her drink and cradled the glass. “Jonathon had the last laugh as it was. He never told me that the doctors said he was sterile. He chose to use material from a donor to fertilise the eggs they had from me, the rest as they say is history! I guess it was fate that I met my daughter’s real father. Now you have Sky, she needs you as much as you need her.”

"She is what is keeping me here although....I am thinking of resigning." He admitted. "Starfleet holds nothing for me now that my business is concluded." He said referring to the incident during the battle for the station.

“Resign!!” Ariana looked at Hades in surprise. “I hope not, this station wouldn’t be the same without you Hades. I know my life wouldn’t be the same without you here to come to. I owe you so much I’ve come to think of you as a mentor as well as a friend.”

"Ariana I feel as if I'm getting old. Kalani...she kept me grounded but now that she's gone...Starfleet has lost its luster."

Ariana nodded. “So if you do decide to leave, how soon?” She couldn’t help but feel upset at the idea of her friend and mentor leaving the station. “Would I ever see you again?”

"I do not know. I will be going back to the colony, I have been granted leave to attend the funeral. I shall not make any decisions yet."

Ariana nodded. “I would have liked to have attended Kalani’s funeral, would you permit me to accompany you? That’s providing I can arrange leave to go of course.”

"Of course." He gave a nod. "We would leave tomorrow."

Ariana nodded. “I’ll be there, thank you Hades.”
