Mission:
Episode 107 – Recovery
Location: USS Enterprise/Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2-2130 hours
ON:
Coleman had been waiting anxiously as the USS Enterprise drifted through space to finally get back to Starbase 400. Captain Worf had ordered the Enterprise to come out of warp near the edge of the sector and get to the Starbase on impulse power, in order to do some repairs on the warp drive.
The warp drive had been damaged even further when they had an encounter with a few stray Tholian vessels a lightyear or two away from the battle. They had been apart of the massive fleet that destroyed the USS Endeavor and helped to strand two of his young officers back in the Triangle. Coleman knew that he would have to go back and get them somehow, someway.
However, he wasn't distracted for long, thinking about Plumeri and Larken. The officer that had taken over for Beta Shift Conn piped up and said, "Sirs, we're within visual and transporter range of Starbase 400."
Worf looked up from his PADD and said, "On screen." A few commands later and the mammoth structure that was Starbase 400 had come onto screen. A few gasps had come across the younger officer's as they saw it. The Starbase had been modified in a few ways since the Typhon Pact had taken it over. The coloring was different and there was some major scarring along the hull.
However, Worf wouldn't let fear and sadness stay for long. He looked at his Comms Officer and said, "Open a channel to the Starbase and request a docking location." With that, the officers made preparations to dock the Enterprise and offer their help with repairs. The docking requests were accepted immediately and it took just a few moments to get the ship in and completely docked.
Worf walked over to Coleman and said, "Are you ready to go back home?" Facing off with the foreboding Klingon, Coleman was happy to be back, but sad to see it beaten to heck and back. After thinking about it, Coleman replied, "Yes and no, sir. I'm glad to be back home because it is home for me. But, I'm sad to see how it was just thrown and beaten to pieces. But, I'm glad to get it back to being truly home."
Worf nodded gently. "I can understand. When the Enterprise-D was destroyed, I didn't think that I could ever find a new home. But, Captain Sisko called upon me to help on Deep Space Nine and it eventually became home for me too. Also, I met the love of my life, Jazida Dax. So, I can understand and relate to what you are feeling."
It was good to have someone understand and relate to his experiences. Thinking back to Worf's story, it was something that gave Coleman strength. Worf said, "So, are you ready to head back over and see what is going on and what we can do?"
Nodding, Coleman smiled and said, "Yeah, lets get over there and help them out. Shall we?" Coleman offered the more seasoned officer the lead as they walked onto the turbolift and headed over to the Starbase. Coleman was ready to return.....home.
