Freya arrived at Sickbay hoping to catch someone free who’d give her the medical clearance to work light duties with Kaden. It wasn’t like she was ill or had experienced any side effects from her stabbing during early pregnancy so she was hoping to breeze through a check up.

“Everything okay?” Dr Corrigan asked as she emerged from the Doctors Lounge, sipping her drink when she saw Freya Ross. At first she was worried something else had happened to Kaden but the woman seemed calm. Merely determined.

Freya smiled warmly. “There’s nothing wrong Doctor Corrigan ... Carolyn. As daft as this might sound I want to get back to work. General Hurd put me on full length maternity leave, as such General Dartt won’t touch me with a barge pole so Kaden has offered to let me do light duties if I get medical clearance first!” She grinned. “Hence why I’m here.”

“Sure, just grab a spare biobed and let me get rid of this..” Carolyn assured her as she held up her hot chocolate. Disappearing into her office she disposed of the drink, quickly checking there was nothing urgent awaiting her attention and then headed back out to Freya, snagging a tricorder on the way.

“Since you are even asking, I take it you feel up to being back on light duties?” She asked, gesturing for Freya to lie back. As soon as she did the overhead display activated, conveying vital signs all well within range.

“To be honest I’m going stir crazy sitting around in our Quarters all day long! I mean, it’s nice to have Kaden with me but there’s only so much staring at walls you can do!” She grinned. “To answer your question ... Yes, I feel up to being on light duties.”

“Well your vitals are strong,” Carolyn observed. “How about the injury? Any pain or discomfort?”

“None that I’ve noticed.” Freya shook her head. “I was pretty tender and a bit slow at first after my stabbing but that was months ago. My energy levels are about on par with what I expected for this stage in my pregnancy so I guess I’m all good.” She smiled.

Carolyn listened while also doing a more detailed scan of the site, satisfying herself there was no residual damage or cause for concern. “Everything looks perfectly fine,” she advised as she closed over the tricorder. “I’m happy to sign off on your return, with the usual caveat that if you feel unwell at any point, you come straight in. You are due to see Dr Kelley in two weeks so we can double that up to see how you are coping with light duties and plan from there.”

Freya nodded. “That’s wonderful, thank you Carolyn. I promise I won’t be overdoing it. I promised Olivia O’Riley that if she needed it we’d look after her twins so I’ll be kept busy that way.”

“You definitely will,” Carolyn agreed with a grin. “Oh, I actually had something to show you... two seconds...”

Disappearing back into her office she reappeared a few minutes later and handed over a PADD, letting the other woman activate it to be welcome by picture of a smiling baby Hope. “I know she meant a lot to you so you can keep it, I have a copy. I thought you’d like to know she’s doing well.”

Freya looked at the picture a few tears welling up in her eyes. “Thank you so much!!” She wiped her eyes. “There are times I wish I’d never let Hope go.”

“She was very lucky to have had you watching over her,” Carolyn smiled. “I’ll have your medical files updated, so you will be able to return to light duties from tomor -“

She was distracted by a small boy being treated by one of the nurses on the far side of the room, with the Ensign trying to coax the child to be still while she dealt with some bumps and bruises. What had caught her attention though was his rather petulant, “you don’t do it right! I want Dr Harris!”

She heard the Ensign murmur something which did not appease the child at all. “Why not?! Mum, make them get the nice doctor!”

Carolyn frowned, trying to ignore it as she attempted to focus solely on Freya. “Sorry, tomorrow. Yes. So tomorrow. Technically your CO can insist on more time but medically it isn’t necessary.”

Freya nodded. “Thank you Carolyn, I’ll get out of your hair. Sounds like you’ve got your hands full anyway.”

“Oh don’t worry, you aren’t in anybody’s hair, I promise. It’s been a busy morning I guess. Do you have any questions or concerns before you go?”

“No I ... don’t think so” Freya smiled. “Thank you for taking the time to see me.”

“Anytime,” Carolyn smiles as she turned and headed towards the child still making a fuss. He still wanted Harris and she sighed inwardly. You and me both kid...
