Mission:
Episode 106 – Stalemate
Location: USS Kearsage, Holodeck
Timeline: MD4 1700h
Jewel decided she needed to get some tension off so she walked to the holodeck and ran her program of a Klingon training she usually uses to brush up on her skills. She began to fight with her Bat'leth, dodging the opponents strikes and making her own. The difficulty was pretty hard, the way she liked it. She would spend the next few minutes fighting.
LTJG. Matthew Plumeri was surprised to say the least when he got the certification reminder from the computer. "Attend a Marine combat training and renew your hand-to-hand combat certification..." Matt read the message again. It wasn't long after that he made his way over to the USS Kearsage and eventually to the holodeck. The whole thing seemed just weird to him. A Lieutenant General in Starfleet Marine Corps Jewel Dartt and a Brigadier General Kaden Ross were going to certify Matt? This had to be a clerical error in Starfleet or someone had an unusual sense of humor. Matt figured that someone of those ranks would pawn him off to someone of a much lower rank to be...'certified'. Starfleet did enjoy the joke now and again. Plumeri stopped in front of the holodeck. It was already running. He was five minutes early. "Better early than late, I guess?" He was wearing his workout clothes and had no idea what he was to wear as far as 'gear' to hand-to-hand combat training. In the past, Security had told him to just wear workout clothing and that was his frame of reference. Matt stepped through the holodeck doors and immediately heard the sounds of someone fighting with a Bat'leth. He walked inside the holodeck and said, "Hello? Is this the combat training for 1700 hours?"
She swung in his direction, not realizing anyone was suppose to be here. She stopped right before it even touched him, about inches from his face. "Computer freeze program," She said as she breathed a bit heavy and was sweating. "What are you doing here? You shouldn't just barge in here like this when the holodeck is in session." She almost yelled as she could have seriously hurt him as the safeties where off.
Matt was startled, "Whoa, whoa there! Hold up, I'm Matt Plumeri. I'm supposed to be here for training?" Matt held up the PaDD with orders on it about his certification. He offered it to the person holding Bat'leth. "Pardon me for the intrusion, I thought I was expected? Are you Lieutenant General Dartt?"
Kaden limped in cane in one hand his personal PADD in the other. "Okay, who is the idiot that put me up to this?" Clearly he wasn't even capable to train anyone while still on the mend. Corrigan hadn't cleared him yet to full duty nor did he want to be cleared till his injuries was completely healed. Kaden was in a slight foul mood he needed to be resting not doing activities like this yet.
Plumeri looked at the man with the cane entering the holodeck, he had a pronounced limp. This was beginning to look more and more like some kind of a prank, "You gotta be shittin' me. OK? I'm the new guy here? I'm pretty sure that it's about the time I'm supposed to be recertified for hand-to-hand. But usually Fleet trains with Security. And...I'm just a junior officer. A nobody really. Comparatively." Matt said looking at them both.
When Ross came in she raised an eyebrow even more, "I don't know anything about training anyone, not sure what's going on." Jewel replied a bit annoyed. "I am just here to work out some tension," Jewel replied. "As far as I know Ross isn't even cleared for duty let alone to be training or training anyone at this moment." Jewel said as she looked at Kaden, "No offense," she added.
Matt looked at Ross and then back at Dartt, "Sounds like a problem with personnel? This happened to me before with my medical records. This is 2396 right? And we're still having paperwork issues? Sorry to bother you two. I think this is a mixup of some kind."
Kaden took a seat on a nearby rock to rest his leg. "Don't be; got me away from Kendall believe me he was asking for a ass kicking." He replied.
Jewel raised an eyebrow at his statement then looked back to Matt, "There must be or this is some crude humor," Jewel replied with a sigh, "Since your already here," Jewel replied. "Computer reengage safeties." Jewel replied as the computer beeped. "First we will use weapons, then without." Jewel replied then looked at Kaden, "You can either watch or you are free to go." Jewel replied to him
A smile crossed Matt's face, "Really?! You are willing to train me? Seriously. I can train with you? WOO!" he did an arm pump, "YES!"
Kaden rested his hands and chin atop of his cane. "I may be on the mend but don't mean I can't offer insight while I observe." He replied.
She looked at Kaden, "suit yourself but please if you could sit over there so we have enough room. I don't want to accidentally hurt you even more then what you have been." She ordered with care. She turned to Matt, "So I will give you a series of simulations, I will be the bad guy and you will have to try to defeat me, each one will be a bit more difficult then the next." Jewel replied as she looked at him. "Are you ready?" She asked.
Plumeri nodded, "Yes ma'am. Understood. So, just use any combat hand-to-hand style I like? Or...?" he asked as he shook the tension out of his arms. It wasn't everyday that one gets to square off with the Lieutenant General of the Marine Corps. Matt was going to have to rely on his years of experience playing the Squares if he was going to earn some respect here.
Kaden sat up finding a more suitable spot that provided a better vantage point and carefully removed the bones of a past kill off before taking a seat. "probably would help see what sort of style they taught you compared to the style they taught us."
"I will choose what each scenario will have as weapons," Jewel replied as she set the first scenario. "First one will be hand to hand no weapons." She began, "You have been sent down with an away team, an enemy catches you off guard. You have no weapons on you, I will be the enemy. You will have to defeat me, in order to do that I will have to be on the ground pinned underneath you. I will tap out if you done so successfully." Jewel replied.
"I will walk out of site, for a couple minutes then enter trying to attack you." She said as she looked at him. "Are you ready?" She asked
He nodded, "Yes. Ready." He cleared his mind and remembered what hand-to-hand trainign he had recieved from Security and from Starfleet Academy. He took in a breath, held it, exhaled slowly. Listening.
Kaden waved his hands. "Whoa hold up Jesus Christ boy what kind of stance is that?" He pointed to Plumeri with his slouched back and close together feet. "My god, you call that a combat stance?" He asked shaking his head. "At this rate, General Dartt, will violate you six ways till Sunday take a break to smoke a cigarette flip your sorry ass over and go in for seconds standing like that!"
She raised an eyebrow, but after waiting a few moments she swiftly came out and surprised him, she swiftly took him down with one move. Shaking her head, "How did you get certified the last time?" she asked as she helped him back up. "Has anyone told you to listen, watch around you because If I was the real enemy you be dead right now." Jewel replied looking at him.
Matthew took a moment to catch his breath, "Security signed off on it; and it looked like to me I was OK at it." Accepting her hand to get back up he answered, "I suppose, if you were the enemy, for real, I'd have to do something like this." With that, he swept her legs out from under her and down she went. "Something like that is how I would do it. Listening, looking for a moment off guard and watching your opponent. Yeah." He offered her his hand as she had offered hers a moment ago.
She laughed, "I let you do that. You got to realize I know every trick in the book I just wanted to see if you knew it." She said as she smiled. "You passed test one," Jewel replied with a laugh.
Plumeri sighed and laughed. "Oh man! WHEW! Sheesh, my gawd Marines are tough. You know my brother is a marine? Heavy Weapons Specialist. I don't know where anymore. He kinda....he hates my guts. Beyond older brother crap. For him, he just has one tool in the toolbox. He's strong and he can dish it out. I figure, if I can think my way out of a fight...so much the better. OK....we going again or what?"
They spent the next hour doing different scenarios and he had surprisingly passed every single one of them, "Well you have passed." She said as she signed off on his re-certification. "Now if there isn't anything else you both are free to go. I want to get back to my personal training if you both don't mind.
Matthew was tired out. But it felt so good too! He had a new appreciation for the Marines on Starbase 400. He thanked them both, picked up his PaDD with his re-certification on it and, very pleased, left the holodeck.
Kaden merely shook his head. "Gotta hand it to the kid he has grit I'll give him that...his footwork needs some work though." He walked past Dartt. "But what do I know, You take it easy General I need to go grab a drink before calling it a day." Kaden gave Dartt a quick wave as he left to seek a good bartender nearby.
After they both left she disengaged the safeties once more "Computer resume program," she replied, picking up her Bat'leth again and starting fighting.
