Mission:
Mission 78 - Colonial Uprising
Location: Admiral Bremer's Office, SB400
Timeline: An hour after 'More changes to the family'
While looking over the crew roster of Starbase 400 and the Senior Officers of the USS Essex, Mike could still see some 'holes' in the Staff. There was some 'shuffling around' that needed to be done. It wouldn't fix everything, but it would take care of many of the openings.
First of all was the open Intel Officer position. Pike was the first person that came to mind. Lee had been the Stratigic Operations Officer and worked closely with Captain Mark before taking over as the Marine Division CO. Mike sent Lee a personal message, asking him if he would consider taking over as the new Intel Officer and Starbase 400's Second Officer. The job also meant he'd take over as CO of the USS Luna, SB400's Intel cruiser.
That would open up the Marine Division CO position, but Mike already had the man for that job. Lieutenant Colonel Highsmith had more than enough experience needed, and he sent him a personal message asking if he'd be willing to take over the position. The position also meant Highsmith would take over as the CO of the USS Saratoga, SB400's designated Marine vessel.
Aboard the USS Essex, Vice Admiral T'Lar had a very capible Chief of Security. Lieutenant Commander R'nard Lokran, a Tralazar. An odd species aboard Starbase 400, but an extremely capible officer and Mike wanted him on SB400's Senior Staff. To make room for the new addition, Captain Alexandra Harrison would take over as the Special Operations Team XO and CO of the USS Steadfast as needed. She would still be able to help out Security when needed, and Bremer sent her a personal message regarding the position change.
Other members of the USS Essex Senior Staff that would take over SB400 Staff positions included Dr. Rachel King. Mike was excited to have a new Chief Medical Officer as talented as she was, and the Lieutenant Commander was going to be a great addition. Her Assistant CMO aboard the Essex, Lieutenant Commander Brislan would also hold the same position aboard SB400. With the two new MDs joining Dr. McLintock who was staying aboard SB400, finally the medical staff was looking good!
The XO of the Essex, Commander Clifford, would service as Vice Admiral T'Lar's Chief of Staff. He would also command the USS Kearsarge as needed. Admiral Bremer had heard a lot about the Commander from Vice Admiral T`Lar already!
The ranking Marine aboard the Essex would take over as SB400's Marine Division XO. Captain Hurd came highly experienced and would be a great addition to the new Marine Staff!
Of course, there were still open positions. Chief Counselor, Chief Diplomatic Officer, CO of the 181st Fighter Wing, Chief Conn Officer, Admiral's Chief of Staff, Assistant Chief Ops, Assistant Chief Strategic Operations, Assistant Chief Science, Assistant Chief Intel, and Assistant Chief Security. The Admiral would continue to keep his eyes open for capable officers to fill those rolls, but until then, he was quiet pleased at the direction his staff was heading.
And now, the waiting. Waiting for the Essex to arrive and waiting to meet her crew face to face. In the meantime, the Yorktown, after having been delayed on her departure to the colonies within the bounds of the soon to be re-formed neutral zone, would be leaving again soon. Mike would also take the time to continue his search for a vessel to replace the soon to be leaving USS Avenger. The ship would be a patrol and defense vessel, but what class? SB400 was already graced with a Galaxy Refit, two Defiant, two Sovereign, a Prometheus, a Luna, an Intrepid, an Akira, a Nova, a Diligent, a Nebula, a Steamrunner, a Ronin, and an Excelsior. Should Mike look for another Ambassador to replace the already departed USS Alabama? Should he look for a smaller vessel like another Defiant or Saber? Should he try to get another capital ship like a Galaxy?
Bremer leaned back in his chair, put his hands behind his head and stretched. Leaning forward again, Mike accessed Starfleet's current list of vessels that were either open for Command or being prepared to enter mothballs. The first ship on the list was a ship that he was already failure with, the USS Ark Royal, an Ambassador class vessel that was just finishing up a patrol nearby and had been assigned to be mothballed at Utopia Planitia. Mike quickly sent a message to Starfleet Command to have the vessel reassigned to SB400 as an attached vessel.
Yep, things continued to fall into place...it was almost too good to believe! However after all the bad luck and other grief that the crew of SB400 had been though in the last several months, a little good fortune was welcome!
