Mission: Episode 106 – Stalemate
Location: USS Essex - T'Lar's Ready Room
Timeline: MD1 2105 hrs

Deela sat in her command chair aboard the Essex. She was watching her bridge crew, thinking about the past. She missed her old crew back in the day when DaSilvor and Brandon's father among others served on the Essex. They had many adventures on and off the ship in the day. She couldn't believe that was over 20 years ago.

"Admiral, the repairs to the ship will take a while. But we are working on it." The Lieutenant chuckled a little, "Anything else before I go?"

Deela looked at the Lieutenant for a quick moment, "No. I cannot think of anything. I will inspect it later."

"Very well Admiral. I'll get back to work." He got onto the turbolift and left. Deela continued to just reminisce and enjoy the quiet but that didn't last long. Alex stepped off the turbolift and walked towards Deela.

Alex beamed onto the Essex from her ship, "Deela, I'm sorry for disturbing you but I really need to talk to you." Alex sat in the other chair.

Deela was surprised to see her, "Don't you have a ship to run?"

Alex smiled, "I do but they don't need me right this minute."

"Like you, the quiet in my quarters is killing me as well. When you are so used to having them, it is hard not to miss them."

"Yeah." She frowned, "I have never been without the kids since they were born. I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm happy that they are safe but I still miss them and wish they were here."

Deela nodded, "I know exactly what you mean. Soon, this will be all over and they will be back before you know it."

Alex shrugged, "Hopefully." There was a short silence between them. There were a few sighs coming from the two then they started to chuckle a little, "Are we pathetic or what?"

"No." She took a breath, "We are just two mothers who are missing their children so terrible that they do not know what to do with themselves."

"Exactly." Alex looked around, "How are the repairs on your ship doing?"

"They are almost finished. You?" Deela shifted in her seat.

"My ship's hull needs a few more fixes but otherwise, she's good." Alex hoped that this was the last battle for a while.

"Cannot promise you that but it would be nice." Deela stood up from her chair, "Want to get out of here?"

Alex stood up as well, "Sure. What do you have in mind?"

"We are going to go talk to our kids. I have not check in with them since the fight." They moved towards the door.

"Neither have I. Are you sure it's safe?" The thought of even talking to their kids took them out of their depression.

"Yes, I set it up so we can speak on a secure channel." They went to Deela's office and opened up a communications between the two families. Deela's mom was the first to appear on the screen, "Deela? I was so worried about you. The kids will be so happy!"

Deela smiled, "Hi mom. Have they been good for you?"

Her mom smiled back, "Well, you know your dad. They can't understand why he's grumpy. I tried to explain to them that he isn't grumpy, just doesn't smile a whole lot."

"I should have warned them." She looked over at an anxious Alex, "Mom, you remember Alex, right?"

Her mom waved at Alex, "I do. Let me go get the kids for you."

Alex waited for Lee's mother to appear on screen. When she did, Alex felt a wave of excitement and relief, "Hi Stacy. I was wondering if the kids were up. I'd really like to talk to them."

"Yes, they are. I'll go get them."

Alex stopped her for a moment, "Before you do, how is your husband?"

"He's hanging in there. I'll be back."

Once everyone was gathered, both Deela and Alex explained to them not to talk all at once. The oldest went first, "Mom!" Brandin was smiling from ear to ear, "Gramma has been working with me on my telepathy."

"Good. Sorry that I am not there for you. This is a big deal in a Betazoid's life. When you come home, we can explore it more."

"Cool." Brandon paused for a moment, "Has grandpa always been so serious? I don't think I've seen him smile since we've been here."

"I have explained that to you. He's Vulcan and that is just his way. We should give the others a chance to talk. I will tell you how to get him to smile at another time."

The twins started to talk at once. Alex had to quiet them down, "I have missed you two so much."

"Mommy, we want to go home. When can we go home."

Alex held back the tears, "As soon as it is safe, I promise. Have the both of you been good?"

"Uh huh." Alton nodded, "Grammy made cookies and we play lots of games."

Adora agreed, "The cookies are good. Can you make cookies too?"

Alex chuckled, "I could try. I promise that when you get home, we will do a lot of things together. Okay?"

Raivyn who doesn't talk much, was eager to talk, "Mommy, I don't like it here. There's nothing to do. I don't think Grandpa likes me much."

"Oh Raivyn, he likes you. He just does not show it much. Like I told Brandon, I will tell you how to talk to him."

"He likes Brandon." She looked down, "He's always talking to Grandpa but I don't think Grandpa likes to talk."

"We will talk about that in a minute. What else have you been doing?"

The conversations continued and Deela told her kids a secret about her dad.

Alex got a call back to her ship, "I need to go. Duty calls." Alex said goodbye to her kids and began to leave.

Deela put her hand on her shoulder, "It will be fine. You will see."

Alex looked like she was going to cry, "I know. I know. It's just hard being separated from them. But they are safe and that is the most important things right now." Alex sighed. "I've been gone from my ship too long. Thanks Deela."

"No problem."Deela watched her leave. She hadn't had a break in awhile. Dessert sounded really good right now.
