Promotion Again?

Kaden laid in his bed bored out of his mind Freya had left to go wash up leaving there alone just staring at the lame ceiling he had been accustomed to now. Right now he'd kill to get out and go do something but with his legs not working and Dr. Corrigan looking over him like a mother hawk was certainly impossible to.

Elsewhere aboard the USS Mercy, Bremer had beamed over while the surviving ships made their way toward Starbase 23. The loss of Starbase 400 weighed heavy on his mind, but he wanted to thank some of the men and women that had been wounded during the evacuation and the RDB8 battle before.

Bremer made his way to newly promoted General Ross's room. Mike hadn't really had the chance to talk with the man much in the year he'd been assigned to Starbase 400. Now, there was time.

"Mister Ross, how are you feeling?" Mike asked, concerned.

Kaden sat up surprised to see the Admiral himself swing by to see him. "Admiral? What are you doing here? I mean...I am happy to see you here." He said although right now he wished he could stand and properly salute him.

"I wanted to check in on everyone. I'm just sorry it took so long to do. How are you feeling? Is there anything you need?" Mike replied.

Kaden took a moment to fix himself into a angle to look at the Admiral. "The ability to walk again be a nice start for one. I am certain you are here to scold me for losing the Saratoga? Does this mean you and Hurd are demoting me?" He asked.

Mike wasn't sure how to reply to the 'walk again' comment. He knew Doctor Hades's team would do all they could to make that happen. "No, I'm not here to talk about the Saratoga's loss at all. I've lost ships in combat too, had the Laffey blown out from under me not too long ago."

Mike took a moment to look out the window at the stars streaking by. The USS Kearsarge was in close formation with the USS Mercy and the big Galaxy Class vessel loomed large in the window.

"General Hurd has gone AWOL. After his injuries during the battle he managed to break free of medical, steal a shuttle, and left. He said something about 'ending Section 31'. Many people have tried." Mike stepped forward, "I'm promoting you to Brigadier General and Commander of the First Marine Division. I know you're down right now, and I remember our first convocation about rank and commend, but frankly there isn't anyone else and you've showed over the year you've been assigned to Starbase 400 that you can handle the tasks assigned to you. I have no doubt you'll do well." Mike handed Ross a small oak wood box.

Kaden blinked not sure how to respond to what he was told. "Hurd is gone?" He began Before taking the box from Bremer and setting it down on his lap. "Admiral, I don't know what to say right now other than I am in shock." He looked up at the Admiral. "I always wanted to make General and command my own Marines but...I thought I would earn my way to that role a little more slower. I mean...I am honored you want me running the Marines and I don't intend to leave them leaderless."

Kaden just shook his head and rested his hand over the box. "I will do it cause you have faith in me and my ability to lead but there is going to be changes. Just at the moment i well," He paused motioning to the fact he was still in bed. "I may be out for a while, Sir."

Mike gave a reassuring nod, he knew all about being promoted quickly during a war. "I understand, and your first priority is to get better. I've put in a message to Marine Corps Commanding Officer General Chike that we could use some fresh bodies and a Divisional XO." Mike paused, "But, with the losses the Marines have suffered that might take time."

Kaden smiled and patted Bremer on the arm. "Thanks for understanding, Sir, in the mean time may I suggest Lennox run things till then? I don't know much about him other than he tends to stick to managing his side of things by the book. The men will in good hands however under his watch till I am up and about again soon I hope." He told him.

"I've promoted Lennox to Lieutenant Colonel and he'll mind the store for you. I've known Danny a long time, since the Dominion War."

Kaden smiled and held up the box in his hands. "I am glad in your confidence in me to run the Marines from now on. I hope I won't let you down but just give me to adjust to my role as the new head honcho down there." He said.

Mike smiled, "I know you're do your best, but I need you on your feet before you can do anything else."

"I suppose I best be resting, Dr. Corrigan, tends to watch me like a mother bird protecting her hatchling hell of a lady she is." Kaden said with a slight grin.

"Good, that's what she should do." Mike replied. "I need to make a few more stops before returning to the Pegasus. We'll be at Starbase 23 by tomorrow morning."

Watching Bremer go Kaden wait for the doors to close behind him before opening the box to look at his new shiny General star. "General Ross, what a nice ring to it." He said to himself before closing the box with a smile.
