“Who is that?”
Peering over the rim of the antique pair of glasses she wore, Elise Corrigan was surprised to find her granddaughter standing in the doorway. Aside from an occasional meal, Elise had seen and heard little from her. Of course that was exactly as Doctor Hades had wanted it, albeit he was in no condition to mind either way.
Irritated at the lack of a simple hello, Elise Looked beyond the archway which separated her ‘office’ from the rest of the laboratory, Elise noted only one other person at work. “That is Stavek. Why?”
“No reason,” Carolyn said absently, staring over her shoulder. “He just seems familiar...”
Shaking it off she rounded the desk to give her grandmother a kiss on each cheek, “sorry for cancelling dinner again last night,” she apologised. “is tomorrow night okay? I need to speak to you.”
“I know you’ve been working far too much with Doctor Hades being unwell,” Elise commented, waving away the apology and, for the moment, mollified. “Would this reason be your father?”
“Maybe,” Carolyn replied, her tone if not her words confirming the older woman’s suspicion. “How is the office?”
“It is sufficient, if a little small,” Elise responded.
“No room for the cauldron, huh?” Carolyn teased as she headed for the door.
“Not even for my broomstick,” Elise agreed, “and heaven knows where my black cat got to.”
Carolyn grinned, “I’ll keep an eye out. Seven tomorrow?”
“Somewhere with good tea, dear.”
Heading for the doors, Carolyn frowned in the direction of the Vulcan seated at a workstation in the far corner of the room. Unable to shake the feeling as he met her gaze that she knew him, yet unable to place it. A rare feeling for her and an entirely unwelcome one.
Heading to the turbolift she headed for her quarters, debating on if she should speak to Harris now or later. Since he got back it felt like every time they were alone it lasted all of two seconds. And they needed to talk.
About that kiss.
About that night...
Later, she told herself as she smothered a yawn. First some sleep before she reviewed the rota for the new cadets and the handful of new doctors joining the staff. After recent events it was more people they badly needed.
