Mission: Episode 102 - The Rising Tide of War
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1 - 1445hrs

ON:

Mike leaned back in his chair in his office. His wife stood behind him, rubbing his shoulders as they talked.

“Starfleet is planning an offensive based on the information the Falcon and Vanguard brought back.” Mike said as he closed his eyes.

“Do they want you leading the attack?” Janice asked.

“No. They’ve selected Admiral Kahl Th'Shras to command the fleet.” Mike replied.

“Th'Shras? Wasn’t he the guy that commanding the ships in the field during the joint fleet maneuvers last year and did so poorly?” Janice asked.

Mike nodded. After a second he stood up, cracked his back, then ordered a cup of hot green tea from the foot slot. “It’s to be a joint Federation, Klingon, C'hakalian, Cardassian, and Romulan Republic ships, about two hundred in total, the Combined 5th Fleet. They are current gathering at Rigel and should be departing in a few hours. They are also taking the 6th Marine Division with them in hopes of taking some territory from the Pact”

“What’s their objective?” Janice asked.

“Cha'Di Station and the Planet Bosva.” Mike replied. “Command wants a foothold in enemy territory.”

“Is that what has you on edge?” Janice asked.

Mike took a sip of the tea. “Partly. The Yuzhao has been assigned to the Combined 5th Fleet.”

Janice let out a breath. “I’m sure K’Wor will be fine.”

“I know he’ll do his duty. I just have a bad feeling they are walking into a trap.” Mike replied.

“Why?” Janice asked.

Mike handled her a PADD.

“The USS Calidorn is missing? I thought she was in mothballs and Micheal retired.” Janice replied.

“They were, but when this war started Starfleet pulled him back into duty and the ship was recommissioned. They were on a scouting missing inside Romulan Star Empire territory and had planned to return to Federation space through the Triangle when communications were lost. Starfleet isn’t sure if Jarovik and the ship went dark to avoid a patrol or found another target to look at.” Mike explained. “Antony Brunel is also aboard the Calidorn serving as Micheal’s XO.”

Micheal Jarovik was Bremer’s first XO aboard the Pegasns and Antony Brunel also later served in that role. Both were exceptional officers and had been good friends before and during the Dominion War.

“Going after them?” Janice asked.

Mike shook his head. “I can’t. With Admiral Th'Shras’s upcoming attack Starfleet wants to give the appearance we’re totally on the defensive right now.”

Janice nodded.

Mike took another sip of his tea before the comm went off. “Fleet Admiral Bremer, please report to Ops.”

Mike and Janice entered Ops. K’Temoc was already there and T’Lar was coming out of her office. Draven stood near the holo-display in the middle of the room. His face was grim, “The Typhon Pact has attacked the Tarod system.”

“That must have been where the ships MacLeod reported leaving RDB8 were going.” K’Temoc commented.

“They were able to conquer Tarod IX in less than eight hours.” Draven explained. “The Federation outpost on the planet was destroyed along with its orbital defense platforms and twenty Starships that were nearby and responded. To make matters worse, the majority of the 2nd Marine Division that was deployed there after the Reman raid a few months ago was also wiped out.”

Janice slammed her hand onto the holo-console.

“This puts the Typhon Pact in a position to attack Bolarus and thus Vulcan, or the Romulan Republic on Vaun'gan.” Draven added.

“What are our orders?” K’Temoc asked.

Mike paused a moment. He wanted to send his ships to counter-attack, but he also had orders and didn’t want to jeopardize the Combined 5th Fleet’s upcoming attack. “Continue with repairs to the station and maintain yellow alert. Draven, inform me when Admiral Th'Shras’s attack begins and I’ll monitor in the CiC. Deela, get with Doctors Hades and Corrigan, I want Sick Bay and the USS Mercy ready. I have a feeling we’re going to have incoming casualties soon. K’Temoc, prep a ship for a fast sweep behind the lines. Use the Laffey, Cutlass, or even the Avenger. Something small that’ll be harder to detect that the capital ships like the Pegasus, just in case.”

“We’ve lost two Marine Divisions since the war started. That’s already more personnel and equipment than the Marines lost in the entire Dominion War. With Admiral Th'Shras’s taking the 6th Marine Division with him, that only leaved the 4th Division here in the Beta Quadrant. There are regiments on Indii, Axanar, and Argelius that will need supplies and support. They’re reserve units that were attached to the 9th and 2nd Divisions.” Janice explained.

“Load the Durga with what you need and be ready to make a run to each. Just take the supplies and get back here. I’ll send a message to General Chike at Starfleet Command and suggest he pull those units back to Earth to training, ready to be deployed as needed.” Mike replied.

Janice nodded.

Mike looked around for a moment, “Questions?”

No one spoke up.

"Alright, let's get it done." Mike said.
