Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD3 0900

"Can I help you?"

The question did not come out quite as calm and confident as Dr Aria Davis intented. An octave or two too high, betraying her nervousness. Just like her hands. With nothing to do with them, the young physician was wringing her hands as she approached the woman who had just entered sickbay. She didn't look injured so that was a relief.

Ariana smiled as she looked around. “I’m Ariana Monroe, Chief Counsellor. I was hoping to catch Carolyn...Doctor Corrigan.” She looked at the new young woman curiously.

Aria frowned, "she isn't on duty today. I actually haven't met her. It's my second day... but I can find Doctor Reid?"

“There’s no rush I was just hoping to talk with her that’s all. See how she’s doing.” Ariana couldn’t help but feel it was strange not seeing Carolyn around. “How are you settling in?”

"I only got lost four times so far today, thrown up twice, offended a Ferengi and spilled orange juice all over the doctor's lounge," Aria told her, all without pausing for breath. "It is not going well."

She crossed to the workstation, "I can double check but I am sure someone said Doctor Corrigan was discharged. Doctor Hades himself authorised it. I may be mixed up patients though, let me check..."

“That would be great, thank you Doctor...” Ariana paused. “I’m sorry I didn’t ask your name?” Ariana smiled warmly.

"Doctor Davis. Aria Davis. Well, Doctor Aria Davis," she explained, frowning. "that's odd. This says she was discharged to be transferred to another medical facility but it just says the rest of the file is classified - I don't understand... I mean, it obviously isn't because of the pregnancy, I understand we have several specialists on the station."

“Wait a minute! Did you say pregnancy? Carolyn is pregnant?!” Ariana looked at Aria in surprise. “It’s okay, I’m a medical professional too so this doesn’t break the rules and Carolyn is my best friend.”

Aria paled, realising she had said more than she should have. She closed her eyes, she was so being transferred. She glanced down, "well, yes... if the last series of bloodwork was correct. Please don't tell anyone I told you that. I am gonna be in so much trouble..."

"No, you won't!" Ariana smiled reassuringly. "I'll see that you don't. I don't suppose either Doctor Harris or Doctor Mendez are available are they?"

Aria groaned, "oh God no..." she looked around her, "one of the cadets was in the bathroom throwing up with me because she dropped a laser scalpel in surgery this morning. Doctor Mendez went nuts! And well, Doctor Harris isn't aboard. I assume he maybe did the transfer? Doctor Hades will know, but people are avoiding him more than Doctor Mendez."

"Either of those two will kill me for telling you this," she took a deep breath, "I think I'm gonna be sick."

"Aria... We've all made mistakes so don't think bad of yourself." Ariana grinned. "Trust me I've done a lot worse in my time! I need to speak to whoever knows what is going on with Carolyn. I can handle Mendez so don't worry about him."
Hades on the other hand..." She shook her head. " Let him get some rest."

“I wasn’t aware I needed handling,” Doctor Mendez commented as he rounded the corner. Realising who was there he quickly turned on his heels to head in the opposite direction.

“Sr Mendez wait!” Aria called out as she hurried after him, “Counsellor Monroe needs to speak to you. About Doctor Corrigan?”

Mendez groaned but stopped, turning back to face them both. “I’m afraid it is classified. Doctor Hades orders. He was very clear.”

"Mendez... You know very well I'm not that easy to deter!" Ariana gazed at Mendez. "Now you tell me or I'll go straight to Hades and ask him!"

“He’s already mad at me and Harris, I am not going up for round two. I get it, you are worried. Just ... it is what they think will help her okay?” Mendez assured her as he guided her into one of the empty consulting rooms. “I don’t even know where but Dr Harris said there were people who could help her.”

Ariana nodded. “She’s been through so much already.” She shook her head. “She told me that she and Harris had a....romantic encounter the day after it happened. She came to see me and see how Stacie and I were.” Ariana hung her head. “I miss having Carolyn to talk to, she’s my best friend.”

“I guess all I can say is that Dr Hades would never have allowed it if it wasn’t the best option,” Mendez pointed out. “The two of them are as thick as thieves. She was practically living in here after his surgery just in case something went wrong. As if there aren’t other doctors around here... as for her and Dr Harris, that isn’t for me to say.”

Ariana nodded. "I wish Hades would give me half a chance at being as close, he tends to hide away from me. I guess being a Counsellor doesn't help! I do consider them both close friends though." She sighed. "I have no doubt Hades would tell me to mind my own business if I asked him."

“You could try. He insisted on being back. Needless to say he does not seem in the best of moods and we are keeping him on admin work only unless there is a major emergency. He should be in his office.”

Ariana nodded. “I’ll see what I can do, but I’ve no doubt he’ll probably tell me I shouldn’t be sticking my nose in!”

Mendez grinned, “well, probably but you are only worried because you care.”

“That’s true.” Ariana grinned. “Carolyn has been there for me when I’ve needed her, she’s my daughter’s godmother! I have to know she’s alright.”

Mendez groaned, his voice barely a whisper before going on, “I don’t know for sure. Harris was researching Vulcan memory blocks. He thinks one may have been done incorrectly or gone wrong.”

"A memory block? but why would anyone want to do a mind block on Carolyn?" Ariana sighed. "None of this makes sense."

“Your guess is as good as mine, again, Hades would be a good person to ask. He had me tell Professor Corrigan her project is cancelled with immediate effect. She just smiled.

End result is, we have an influx of medical students and residents and we are two senior doctors down. And Hades is too stubborn to go home. Maybe you could take your life in your hands and suggest that to him.”

"I can try but what's this about Professor Corrigan? What kind of project was she supposed to be doing?"

“Final testing of a new protocol, she’s a neurologist but mostly research now from what I understand. She wanted to carry out clinical trials here.”

"She's a neurologist!!" Ariana shook her head. "No wonder she knew to be at Carolyn's quarters that night! She must have had something to do with Carolyn's memory loss, it's too much of a coincidence!!"

“I don’t know. There is no evidence, not really,” he pointed out. “I was just grateful to get out of her office and not be in the crosshairs. Look, I have surgery but definitely speak to Hades. Just don’t let on what you know and definitely not where you heard it.”

Ariana nodded. "Don't worry, I have my ways." She grinned. "Go and do your surgery, I have a certain little girl that will be waiting to be fed. I'll speak to Hades once that's done."
