“Miss me?” Doctor Corrigan asked with a grin as she appeared in the doorway of Hades office, glancing over her shoulder as Harris walked in behind her, “I mean I get it if you did not miss my babysitter but me you missed, right?”
Hades smiled a little. He was exhausted and he'd had another attack and was slowly recovering. Thankfully he'd been completely alone this time. He was weak so he didn't stand. "I miss all my doctors. It's been kind of busy." He motioned for the chairs in front of him. "Harris get some hot chocolate for Carolyn and get something for yourself. Brief me on the mission."
“Oh nothing special. Definitely not presidential at all,” Carolyn told him as she sank into the chair, exhausted. “But it was a success so the lack of sleep was worth it. At least I had your reminders to eat. Not irritating at all by the way. We need to work on your control issues.”
She took the hot chocolate with a grateful smile. “And here?”
"The sickbay is almost up to speed. The teams have fixed our power issues, fixed the damaged machines. I'm having them tested and retested. Lots of injuries but thankfully minor. We've run out of some medication but that's hopefully going to be rectified and I do not have control issues."
Harris had just sat down and started to drink his tea. He glanced at Hades over it. He looked Haggard and tired. There was something he was hiding and Harris didn't like it one bit.
“No?” Carolyn countered as she took a drink. “You don’t make sure Harris sticks to mealtimes. So that’s all? Not, say, brokered any deals?”
"Deals?" Hades said trying to act dumb.
“You know what they say about playing with fire,” Carolyn warned. “Well, if all good here then I’ll go shower, change and you can take a break. You look exhausted.”
"I am fine. You two should take the rest of the day off. I can handle things here."
“You’d say you were fine if your head was hanging off,” she muttered as she climbed to her feet. “Fine. I shall go enjoy my newly single status. After I find some salt. That’s good for keeping witches at bay.”
"Harris, out. Corrigan sit down."
“What did I do?!” Carolyn protested even as she sat down, “Harris is the one who wants to talk to you.”
"He can wait." Hades watched Harris leave.
"Alright young lady what do you mean newly single. I get the salt reference. I'm laughing to death on the inside. What about he single part?"
“Single, singular. Not attached. Solo,” she said with a shrug. “Grandmother dearest was most delighted to let Liam and his son go back to Earth on her ship. And the boys mother, of course. The timing was my idea. Him leaving was my idea. There is nothing to discuss.”
"Granted I will give Grandmother dearest brownie points. Never liked Liam but you seemed to. Why did he leave? Why did you break up with him? Don't say something stupid about the child cause I'll confine you to quarters for a week."
“He left because I told him to,” she said firmly. “And of course his baby was a big part of it. We had fun, sure but I wasn’t about to become the next Mrs O’Connor. He went through a lot in the marines, he deserves this chance at a family. Are we done?”
Hades sighed, "Did you think, just once that he could have his child in his life and the woman he loved and that she need not necessarily be the biological mother of his child?"
“I’m not having this conversation,” she snapped at him, standing up. “I made my choice. Please just respect it.”
Hades stood up. He walked over to Carolyn and took her by the shoulders. "Don't do this noble shit. If you love him you call him back, child or not." He gave her a gentle shake. "You have to be an adult Carolyn. Your life is about to change and I need to know you can handle it!" He pulled back and turned around. He'd come dangerously close to telling her but he hadn't He'd have to keep her at a distance until the time came. There was nothing anyone could do now but he had to make sure she'd be okay.
“What are you talking about?!” She demanded. When he didn’t answer she shook her head, “Liam is gone. End of discussion. Great chat.”
She had said it with more anger than she intended and she instantly regretted it. A little. She turned on her heels and stormed out, knocking into Harris. “He’s all yours,” she muttered and kept on walking.
Harris sighed, "What happened now?"
"Nothing! I have work to do! Out!"
Harris sighed, he came out the same way he'd come in. Those two were nuts. Shaking his head he went to get caught up on what needed doing.
