ON:

Dakor looked over at Splendora and then Michael who was busy in the back, a friend of Splendora’s who’d insisted on coming. “Why is he here?” Dakor spoke in hushed tones.

Splendora sighed, “So that my half-brother would not worry and so he can help. He’s Section 31.”

Dakor swore violently only to receive a kick from Splendora. “Watch your mouth!”

Her mind had not been on the shuttle ride that would take them to the outskirts of the system where a Klingon Bird of Prey was waiting to take them to the Klingon Home world.

“Your mind is with your Tom.”

Splendora sighed, “Dakor, if you insist on making sounds why don’t you sing something dreadful and Klingon. Leave me to my thoughts.”

Dakor laughed, “You mean leave you to your misery. You love him.”

She sighed again. “Yes, Dakor, I love him.”

He studied her, “But it is complicated.”

She had an odd feeling that she was being counseled. “Yes.”

“Why?”

She shrugged, happy that Michael was busying himself in the back. “I worry.”

“About?”

“About the fact that one day he will wake up and decide that I am not worth it. About the fact that he could have his pick of anyone he wanted but he picked me. About the fact that he deserves better and he’ll realize that.”

Dakor stayed silent. In all the years he’d known Splendora she’d never second guessed herself. In fact she had never been attached to any man as she was with this one.

When he didn’t speak she went on. “All this stuff that has happened to me…The rebirth, it’s confusing. It makes me feel disorientated.”

“That is understandable,” Dakor said. “Perhaps this is what you need. You told me last night that you feel as if the blood of a thousand warriors is coursing through your veins.”

She smiled, “Yes. There is that. Perhaps this will clear my mind.”

“But that is not all that weighs heavy on your mind.”

“Dakor what in the name of all that is holy are you doing? I don’t need a counselor!”

He sighed, “No but a warrior cannot go to battle when his mind is trapped by what weighs heavy on it. Giving it voice clears the mind.”

“Bite me!”

He looked at her. “But…I am not your mate.”

That did it. Splendora threw her head back and laughed. She snorted to a stop. “Oh goodness. Leave it to you.”

He smiled, “See, you are better already.”

She sighed. “True. I guess the other thing is that since I have been going through all this I love my work but sometimes I see it as endless whining. I used to enjoy listening to patients and helping them but as of late…I get frustrated. I ask is there anything more.” Suddenly she realized that she did need this time away.

“Hmmm.”

Dakor looked on at her. “What?”

“I was just thinking if I was a patient of myself what would I say and this trip, this distraction is what I need. I think I’ve lost faith in myself.”

Dakor smiled, “And you have told me that you were surrounded by men who wish to protect you. You need to be a warrior, to let the fire inside you out. You know that I will fight with you but I will not be a knight in shining armour. I will treat you as any of my warrior brothers.”

She smiled, “Dakor have you ever thought of going into counseling?”

He smiled, “Just being inside your head was enough to squash any curiosity in that respect.”

Splendora laughed. She felt lighted, clearer. “Alright then. Let’s get to your ship. Do I get a cool Klingon outfit too?”

Dakor barked out his laughter. “It is good to know you have not changed that much. Your love of outfits has followed you through death and rebirth.”

She smiled. “Appears so. So do I get a cool outfit?”

He smiled, “Yes.”

“Okay then.”
