Freya and Ariana had to wrap up a few errands leaving Kaden alone with Hope for a while which was a bit intimidating he was not used to be alone with a baby. The girls assured him they wouldn’t be gone long maybe to help Freya get her mind off Hope having to leave soon. She wasn’t the only one Kaden didn’t like the kid having to go but understood the need for her to be with family. He did some research on Hope’s relatives coming for her and found out they were good people her uncle was a school teacher on Mars while her aunt was an engineer at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards. Come to find out her aunt suffered an accident a few years back that required surgery leaving her sterile which broke his heart but with Hope she least is able to raise a child even if it was her niece.
Kaden had gotten the baby to sleep after spending some time making her laugh by making each of his pecks dance for her to some kids music. Much like Freya the kid seemed to like his muscles although he was still a bit sensitive over it but had to do his best to not let it bother him so much as Freya and Ariana suggested. Kaden paused to look the baby over one more time while she slept before heading out of the room grabbing his shirt. But as he walked out the lights went out and door to his and Freya’s quarters opened which baffled the Marine. There were noises of what sounded like someone working outside of course that someone seemed rather angry. Against his better judgment, Kaden tossed his shirt on a chair nearby and decided to take a look.
Walking out of the door Kaden could see that the corridor lights were starting to flicker but the noises coming from down the corridor. Looking down he saw a man hunched over angrily muttering to himself as he pounded away on an open panel the lights flickering each time he did so. Concerned Kaden walked up to him and placed his hand on his shoulder before the fellow took his tool and swung it at him barely missing from cracking open Kaden’s skull like an egg.
“Hey! calm down!” Demanded Kaden. He grabbed the tool from the man and tossed it on the floor. “Jesus, you almost hit me with that thing.”
The man looked at Kaden then the tool. “Then you shouldn’t have walked up on me like that.” He replied.
Kaden tilted his head was this guy serious? Did he want to smash his head in for bothering him? Placing his hands on his hips he decided for the time being to not to get alarmed over it but he was still on edge. “Look, I only came out here cause the lights in my quarters are out and the door is open.” Kaden pointed up to the lights in the corridor. “Whatever, you are doing is causing everything to go on the fritz.”
The man closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Forgive me, I been needing to replace a bad...coupling in this section all day.”
Kaden wasn’t aware of there being any problems maintenance wise but he was in the Marines, not Engineering. He wanted to press the issue may be even given Engineering a call that the guy they sent screwed up things and send some help up to fix it. But the guy looked familiar somehow like Kaden saw him somewhere before. “Hey, don’t I know you?” He asked.
“I don’t think so.” Replied the man.
Kaden stood there for a minute looking him over before it finally popped in his head. “Hey, yeah I know you you are that guy with the serious attitude problem you were fighting with some gal last I saw you.” He said.
The man balled his fist up as if he wanted to punch Kaden. “Hey, that was none of your business and suggest you just drop it!” He told him.
“Hey relax, I don’t want any problems,” Kaden replied backing away. “Last I want to do is have to notify Security.”
The man took a step forward feeling the urge to punch Kaden he didn’t like anyone meddling in his affairs but then there was a shout from behind. “I knew it! I know when we got the call this had Andrew Ignatious all over it.”
Kaden turned to see a man and woman approaching from behind who seemed to also be from engineering. “Jesus, Andy, what did you screw up this time?” Andy? Kaden heard that name before no it couldn’t be could it his wife’s ex?
“I am here to fix the faulty coupling like I was told to,” Andy said.
The woman from engineering got down to take a look at what Andy had done. “Andy, the coupling was on the OTHER side of the station.”
“Great, now we gotta fix this mess thanks.” Said her companion as he got down to join her. “Just leave your stuff here and head back to engineering so they can give you something else to do that you won’t mess up.”
Kaden sort of felt bad for the poor guy suddenly in a way it was like almost looking at a mirror of himself when he felt he could never do anything right. The male engineer looked up at Kaden taking note he was out there wearing nothing but usual silk pajama pants. “I take you to reside here?” He asked.
Kaden pointed to his open dark quarters behind him. “Just over there actually.” He replied.
“Oh, Captain Ross, sorry we had no idea listen just give us a few minutes and we will get everything sorted out.” The woman said.
Andy looked at the direction he pointed to noticing the same quarters his ex Freya lived at. “So you are the famous husband my ex talks about?” He asked.
Kaden could see he was now correct to assume this was Freya’s ex come to think of it he noticed he was a Betazoid Freya never told him he was Betazoid. “Yeah, you must be Andy nice to meet you.” He extended his hand out trying to be polite.
Andy looked at his hand then at Kaden. “Charmed I am sure, listen I don’t have time to chat.” He started to walk away crossing his arms. Leaving Kaden holding his hand out feeling somewhat disrespected but also with a rather strange feeling there was something sinister about the man he couldn’t quite put his finger on.
