Commander James Winter, the commanding officer of the Federation Starship Laffey and Starbase 400's tactical operations officer was dressed in his dress whites. He had been selected as a pallbearer for the funeral casket of Starfleet Commodore Christopher Pike, a one-time Captain of the legendary Starship Enterprise. It was a bright but warm day with a cool breeze flowing. Members of the Federation Council were also present at this historic occasion. News Media were around in silent respect for the legendary hero.
The shuttle landed and a Irish bagpipe began to play amazing grace as Commander Winter and his fellow officers began to help Commodore Pike take his last few steps home. A Squadron of Valkyrie Fighters were flying overhead. a Starfleet Marine Rifle squad was also in attendance.
The Casket, whom Winter, and the rest were honorably carrying bore the flag of the United Federation of Planets.
Admiral Nechaeyv was speaking she related the accident in which had laid harm to Pike, Captain Jennifer Colt, the descendent of Pike's yeoman stood bye. Captain Colt commanded the Starship U.S.S. Pike, an Intrepid-class starship that was under development at Utopia Planitia. Pike's career was read aloud and the accomplishments he's made.
The only one of Pike's crew that was still alive was Spock but he was declared missing no trace of him ever found. Perhaps Spock was tending to another far off duty to another friend.
A Member of the Federation Council spoke. "Commodore Pike has led the charge for advancement of the ideals of the Federation, he advanced the causes of liberty, knowledge and understanding in a galaxy that was rough, a frontier that needed the steady hand and Pike Provided that hand. We are truly blessed and truly thankful as a grateful nation for the services of this legendary individual. Who we are today is because of what he was yesterday."
Then the admiral spoke again and the casket was lowered gently into the ground as the fighter compliment flew over head in the missing man formation, the ship's bell from the original Enterprise sounded. The Irish Bagpipe began to play again, it began to play amazing grace and began to walk off signaling that Pike was indeed home, walking off into the sunset of life.
A man who had accomplished his mission more than anyone else save James Kirk could have done.
The ceremony was over and people began to disperse. He stepped away from the crowd and tapped his communicator after both Admirals Bremer and Nechaeyv thanked him for bringing Pike home.
"Winter to Laffey, Energize."
James was beamed back up and home, ready to live another day.
