Mission:
Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Lounge
Timeline: MD 1, 2110 hrs
Aubrey wondered what she was doing? This was not typical behavior for her. To go knocking on a strangers door, asking him to stop being anti-social, and hang out with the senior staff. She was not sure she went to him. He is very attractive, but his physical looks did not make her walk over to his door.
He seemed very shy, and sweet. But typically she went after guys with more swag to their approach, so it could not be personality. She hated not knowing why, she went to him this night. They continued to walk towards the lounge area.
The night is young. What in the hell was she thinking. She did not want to miss lead, that line, was poorly thought out. Her mind was struggling, to figure out why she said it. The walk to the lounge was a little to quit, starting to become awkward.
Aubrey was trying to think of something to talk about. But she was drawing a blank. Dustin noticed that things seemed awkward, the silence was unbearable. He was struggling to find something to talk about. He wondered if she was doing the same, finding something to talk about.
"How are things in Engineering?" Asked Dustin, trying to break the awkward silence. He was not very good with his delivery on that line, he was nervous, and his voice cracked a little.
Aubrey could tell that he was a little nervous. It was certainly not a turn on, she thought to herself. She did not want to be rude, this was after all, her idea. "Not bad, the Captain and the inspector stopped by, and we passed." Said Aubrey. "How did your department do?" She asked, trying to keep the conversation going.
"Passed, he suggested recalibrating the targeting arrays on the Falcon, once we get back to Starbase 400." Dustin said, thinking to himself the arrays were already perfectly aligned. The inspector outranked him, and he would comply with his request, at the completion of this mission.
The two started to walk into the lounge area, Dustin thought to himself. Oh boy, here we go! Dustin tried to force smile on his face, as he walked in with Aubrey.
"Glad you could make it Mister Reynolds." Said Sarah, in a serious tone.
"Me too Commander." Was all that Dustin could think to say. But in reality, he would rather be in his quarters, resting for the night.
The night was young, and the bridge senior staff, started to mingle a little. It was clear to the crew that Zeke and Anna were an item. But the only item on the ship. Dustin felt a little awkward around the two love birds. Deep down, he thought they were adorable. Being all cuddly with each other.
Aubrey could tell that Dustin was not sure of the party, she grabbed him by the arm, and pulled him off to the side. "You're doing fine, just relax. I can tell parties, are not your thing. Are they?" She asked expecting to get a yes from him.
"I prefer to spend the nights in a less crowded scene." Dustin said, who was trying not to sound like ass. But it was hard. He was not really a big social butterfly.
"Sometimes, parties are a good way to make friends, and allow opportunities for the crew to get to know one another." Suggested Aubrey, as she looked to Dustin, and his bright brown eyes.
"Perhaps, but lunch in the mess hall, can provide those same opportunities, and most of the time alcohol will not be served during a luncheon." Suggested Dustin, as he noticed everyone had a drink.
"Okay you have a point, but your here now, so let's give this a try?" She asked with a smile on her face.
"Let's give this a try?" He asked, wondering what was she thinking? Was she interested in him, as a science project, or romantically? Dustin was never good at reading girls. He did not mean to be aggressive sounding in his nature. But he wondered if she was coming onto to her. He really did not know her, sure she was attractive, but he really did not think about her in that fashion.
"I dragged you into this, I should follow this through, can not leave or ditch ya now. That would be rude, would it not?" Aubrey asked, with a tone of sincerity in her voice. But deep in her thoughts, she wondered who was this guy? Most of the time, she was being hit on, but not this guy. He sounded annoyed about the idea of them spending any time together. She was very intrigued, was this a game to him, a sick and cruel form of flirting. Or was he sincere?
"You are right." Dustin simply said, as the scene starts to fade.
