Mission: Episode 96 - A Visitor From the Past
Location: Industrial Replication Area, Starbase 400
Timeline: During MD1, 1400Hrs... Enterprise docked at "Starbase 4"

Having compiled the list of required Parts and Components for the Constitution Class Starship from their conversation with Scotty, Jack began programming in the required authorizations for replicating such aged parts.

As he worked away at his console, Jack looked over at Octceann. "Wow, we just spoke with Starfleets most famous Engineer...and now we're fixing up one of the legends of Starfleet," he said, taking a moment of reflection.

"Did you ever think that an opportunity or chance like this would ever happen?" Jack asked his colleague.

"No," Octceann began, "Maybe one day the Enterprise would stop by, but not *THIS* Enterprise, not Commander Scott himself, and to have Kirk with him too, incredible." He paused for a moment, "Still, we can't be too star struck, as much as I want an autograph from Scotty we need to be careful. The Enterprise is mere months away from the potential destruction of all life on Earth. We need to patch her up, and not harm the timeline. It will be hard to continue fooling the greatest Chief Engineer that the Federation has ever known."

Jack stopped for a moment. "Its difficult being a Starfleet Engineer, meeting the man who inspired me, only to have to fool him when the time came of meeting him...and all because of the small matter of him turning up through a temporal anomly..." He admitted. "Its strange how the Universe works..."

Jack also realized that this was a good time to get to know his new assistant chief and find out some more about him. "So what brought you to 400?" He asked.

"Hahaha" Octceann began with a nervous laugh. "It's sort of silly really"

"Hey, no story is silly. We're Starfleet Officers and each of us has a different path through the cosmos..." Jack explained. "I'm just curious to know yours."

"Okay, well back at the academy my best friend was a Bajoran Engineering student, Sorac Mara, and yes her father was that Admiral Sorac. Former Fleet XO to Admiral Bremer, then Fleet CnC. Well anyway, when postings were listed, I requested this one because Admiral Sorac's old ship was here. I had heard too many stories from Mara back in the Academy of the Mighty Constantinople that I just needed to have a chance to work on her."

Jack smiled as he realised the reasoning behind his Assistant Chiefs posting on 400. "So your here because of not one lady...but two?" He offered.

"So yeah, you could say I sort of am here because of the two ladies I love in my life. Mara, and the Consty." Octceann was a bit embarrassed, but in a way sort of glad to get it all off his chest. He thought about letting Jack know about the holo archive he had from the Consty's old EMH, but felt that was a story for another time probably. They needed to focus on the repairs to the Enterprise more than his personal side projects.

"What about you? How long you been on 400? What brought you here?" AmHain asked Jack.

"Well that's an interesting one. I was on the Wildcat for the first part of my carer where I made my way up to Chief of Operations. After transferring to the Saratoga I honed my Engineering skills further before being re-assigned for an Undercover role with Starfleet Intelligence," he explained.

"However, the whole assignment was a setup by Section 31 and they smeared my name leaving me to a Court Martial... I was lucky enough to be given a chance by Admiral Bremer to serve on board 400 as Asst Chief Ops before Chief Engineer became available. Serving on board a Station has been a different way of life for me from serving on Starships, but I love being on board," he explained.

"I hear you there", Octceann started. "I don't know many of us who started at the academy and said 'I want assigned to a station'. It's always about the ships and seeing whats new 'out there', but we do get to work on some pretty amazing stuff here. On top of that, I'm pretty sure I'm the first in my class to get to the delta Quadrant, and . . . to meet Captain Kirk."

"Well mark that one in your career as a highlight because there will be plenty more like this one to come," Jack started. "We seem to have a habit of either running into contact with civilisations who weren't planned for first contact, trying to survive time travel situations without violating the Temporal Prime Directive or averting Galaxy wide wars from starting.... Its never dull."

He looked up at his panel and could see that the Industrial Replicator was reaching the end of its work. He made sure that there period details specific to the Enterprise in her current guise. Knowing that she would soon enter her refit was a journey he almost wished he was there to see.

Once the parts were collected, both he and Octceann made their way back to the Enterprise to install the parts with Scotty's help.
