Hades sighed as he flipped to the next page of his book. They’d arrived back on the station and he’d decided to take a few days off seeing as things were under control. He smiled to himself as he thought about the fact that he’d changed his mind an hour ago. After a few hours of rest he felt useless and decided to go to sickbay.
Hades was just about to flip to the next page when his door chime rang. He sat up and bookmarked the page. Slipping the book onto the coffee table he stood and straightened his shirt. “Come in.”
Rol had decided to go check on the CMO. He’d been worried by the incident while the Essex was coming back. Rol had arrived in sickbay and a loud crash drew him to the CMO’s office. He’d found Hades on the ground pale, sweating, gasping for air. It didn’t take long to figure out that Hades had been having an anxiety attack. He’d ordered the CMO to rest a few days and he was damned determined to make sure Hades listened.
Now, as the door opened, Rol stepped into Hades’ quarters. “Good morning doctor.”
Hades watched as Rol walked in. He wasn’t in his usual uniform. Today he had on a plaid shirt with long sleeves and black slacks. Hades straightened to his full six foot three. He was only three inches taller than Rol and he hoped to intimidate the counselor into leaving quickly.
Rol took one look at Hades and threw his head back laughing. After a moment he smiled shaking his head. “Really? You think you can intimidate me.”
Hades sighed, “I thought you were Bajoran not Betazoid.”
Rol grinned as he walked over to the sofa and sat down. “I’m not Betazoid, I’m worse. I licensed counselor who’s seen it all.”
Hades sighed as he walked over to the replicator. “Drink?”
Rol smiled. “Sure. Tea please. How are you doing?”
Hades ordered two Bajoran teas and sat down in the sofa chair handing one to Rol. “I’m fine.”
Rol shook his head. “No, you are not fine. You had an anxiety attack. What prompted it?”
Hades shrugged, “It’s been a rough few weeks. I guess I needed this day off.”
Rol looked at him. “Tell me about the rough few weeks.”
Hades was about to say something when his door chimed for the second time. Happy that he didn’t have to get into this he called for the person to enter. He was surprised and happy to see Lai’lira. He greeted her with a warm hug. “Lai’lira. How are you?”
She smiled a bit, “I’m okay. We’ll talk about it all later. I need your help.”
Rol stood, “I think that Doctor Hades needs to rest now.”
Hades shot Rol a look that said he’d clearly overstepped. “What’s wrong? Are you well?”
Tears sprang to Lai’lira’s eyes. “It’s Braxton. Something is wrong.”
That had Hades listening. He took her shoulders gently. “What happened?”
She looked up at Hades. “His friends…the ones that look like wolves. They came. They did something to his mind.”
Hades led her over to the sofa sitting beside her. “Tell me.”
He listened while Lai’lira explained how she’d come to drop something off to Braxton and she’d found a Blonde man and the leader, Hades knew to be Sticky Nicky, in Braxton’s office. They were just leaving and Braxton had a confused look on his face.
“Hades his eyes were vacant. When I came in the leader had his hands on Braxton’s temple.”
Hades thought for a moment. “How?”
Lai’lira proceeded to demonstrate.
After assuring her that all would be well he sent Lai on her way. Rol had stayed back silently watching. It was when the Romulan woman left that he spoke. “That gesture she demonstrated. It was a Vulcan one.”
Hades have a nod. “It’s something we do to mind meld but Nicky…I don’t recall him being Vulcan.”
Hades started towards the door. “I have to…” What he would have said was lost as a wave of dizziness hit him and his body swayed.
Rol was there in an instant helping him to a chair. He grabbed a water from the replicator and handed it to Hades. “You’re in no shape to do anything. You need to go to sickbay.”
Hades sighed, “No…It’ll pass. I think you’re right. I need rest. I think I want to sleep now. If I feel worse I will go to sickbay. Braxton…”
Rol sighed, “Alright doctor. I will check on the Marine. On your honour I will leave you but there is a French saying. J'accuse. It means I accuse. I accuse you of not taking care of yourself. You seem to take care of everyone but yourself. That will change and you will attend counseling sessions or I will accuse you to the CO.”
Hades sighed. “Alright. Alright. Can I sleep now? Please check on Braxton.”
Rol hesitated a moment then gave a nod and left. He hoped Hades would listen. He didn’t want to go over the doctor’s head but he would if he had to.
OFF.
