The gathering in the mess hall over Ariana was about to head off when Zeke caught up with her.
"Counselor can I see you in my ready room?" Asked Zeke, as he motioned with his hand for the counselor to follow him. He wanted to talk about the performance of the crew and the pilots. He lead her into his ready room.
Ariana smiled and nodded "Of course Commander" she followed Zeke to the turbolift and then to his ready room waiting as he walked over to the replicator.
"Can I offer you a beverage?" He asked, as he walked over to the replicator to make himself another cup of coffee. He was curious what Ariana thought of Marcus's performance.
"Just an ice cold water please Sir" she smiled politely waiting until he returned with the drinks.
Zeke handed her a cup of ice water, and motioned for her to sit on the sofa. "I'm glad to hear that, what did you think of Cadet Mattson's performance?" Asked Zeke, curious to see how she was going to respond. Zeke was impressed with the cadets natural instincts.
"Just so as you're aware Commander, Cadet Mattson & I are... In a relationship but I won't let that interfere with my judgement. In answer to your question I thought he handled himself very well, he was very self assured and confident in his decisions. I think he's a fine pilot."
"What did you think about his tactical assessment. Deciding to take on the single fighter heading towards the Falcon, Did he properly decipher the scenario and make the right call?" Asked Zeke, as he got straight to the question, that was on his mind.
"I'm no pilot Commander but I believe he made a good assessment of the situation and took what he considered to be the best course of action. I'm not a tactical expert but he handled it calmly and efficiently which is important in any situation."
Zeke appreciated her honesty. He smiled as he went on to ask. "Thank you Counselor, your feedback is appreciated." He said, "Typically we do not grade cadets in this fashion. But Cadet Mattson shows great potential. You have had chance to get to know him, what is your assessment of his personality, can he handle the high levels of stress, that it takes to be a special operations specialist?" Asked Zeke, trying to be generic as possible with titling the cadet or any future he may have with his unit. Today was only an assessment.
"As you know Cadet Mattson has had an accident before but when I assessed him I was happy with his state of mind & he seemed genuine in his want to be the best pilot he can be" She smiled as she thought about Markus she was looking forward to having him back aboard ship again. "I believe he has what it takes to be one of the best pilots in the fleet."
"I am happy to hear it." Said Zeke with a big grin on his face. He took a big sip from his coffee. "He has great talent, and I know special operations could use a man with his skills." He said, being brief in his answer. He was thinking to himself, that the cadet, was young and eager enough to be a great pilot.
"Special operations?" Ariana looked at Zeke curiously, "I take it that would more or less a promotion for him?"
"It would, I will discuss it with Admiral Bremer and his CO, to see if we deploy, he can accompany us. Appreciate your insights." Said Zeke. He also knew he needed to ask the cadet, if he even wanted to work with special operations. There was still a lot to do and he was starting to get hungry.
