338 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: SB400 Promenade
Timeline: Current

Melody aimed her cue stick and gently shot at the cue ball which tapped the 8 ball, sending it into the pocket she had called. A few of the onlookers cheered and her opponent lay his money on the table next to hers.

"That's it for me," he said shaking his head.

"Pleasure doing business with you," Melody said with a grin as she collected her winnings.

"How about a game of 9 ball?" one of the onlookers spoke up.

Melody shook her head. "How about a rain check?" She asked smiling a sweetly innocent smile. "It's past my bed time."

"Well I definitely want a chance to win my money back," her opponent said.

"I'll be around," Melody said with a wink and finished what was left of her beer. "For tonight, gentlemen...I bid you adieu," she said as she turned and headed for the tavern door. She waved over her shoulder as she opened the door and stepped out onto the Promenade.

Five minutes later Melody was standing at the hatch of the Blaze. She opened a panel next to the hatch and placed the palm of her hand on the control panel pad and the hatch slid open. She stepped across the threshold and closed the hatch behind her.

"I told you I'd be back," she said aloud as she headed for her quarters. "And I return a winner," she announced proudly. "Beat the pants off of some guy playing 8 ball," she added as she placed her money pouch under the mattress of her bunk. She changed into an over sized shirt and crawled into bed. "Lights out," she said and a second later the only illumination was a soft blueish glow that came from the control panel next to the door to her quarters which she kept open. "I think I might see if I can get into a poker game tomorrow," she said aloud. "One with decent stakes," she added sleepily and yawned. A few minutes later she drifted off to sleep.
