316 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: SB400
Timeline: Current

Melody skillfully piloted the Blaze to her assigned docking port where she shut down her engines and left the cockpit. She went into her quarters (which was more of a sleeping area consisting of a bunk, small locker-like closet, dresser and a small latrine) and opened the closet. She knelt on the floor and lifted a secret panel in the floor of the closet and removed a small locked case which she placed on her bunk. She opened it, revealing a cache of gold latinum, and put some in a pouch which she attached to her belt. She then closed the case and returned it to the floor of the closet, replaced the panel and closed the closet door. Quickly straightening her hair, she headed for the hatch and entered the air lock. She was met by a docking agent to whom she paid for a docking permit and requested a "map" of the starbase. She went back into the Blaze where she took a quick shower and changed into clean clothes.

"Keep an eye on things, pal," Melody said to her ship as she headed for the hatch. "Security alarm set," she added at the hatch then left her ship and headed for the base's promenade.

After several months of replicator food, the first thing Melody looked for when she got to Starbase 400's promenade was a place to get a real meal. She found a small cafe that wasn't packed with people and found a seat with a view of the promenade. She was pleased to see that the menu listed several items from Earth and when the waitress returned to take her order she said, "I'll have the New York steak...extra rare...baked potato with sour cream and chives, a salad with blue cheese dressing and a large Coca-cola"

As she waited for her order she watched the activity on the promenade.
