Episode 92 - More Questions than Answers
Location: Division CO's Office
Timeline: MD5, 1345
Previous Day
Jackson, as usual, was knee deep in paperwork. The situation with Colonel Hurd has helped things. At least for the next few days, Jackson was on his own. But there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Jackson looked forward to meeting the CO of his old regiment. He should be reporting sometime this day.
Davenport made his way to Marine Country on Level 40, he was told he had to meet with his new commanding general by the Admiral. As he entered the waiting area, the receptionist, a fellow marine, nodded to the Lieutenant as she spoke. "Sir, I'll inform Major General Jackson you're in the waiting area.
Davenport took a seat and looked around the massive area that the marines had, larger than any other space provided to marines he'd ever seen.
"I know, bigger than you are used to. I felt the same way when I came here as Division XO. So are you getting settled in Sir?", Jackson could not help but call him 'Sir'.
Davenport stood and saluted the man, waiting for him to call him to ease before responding. It wasn't a manner of disrespect, but thought out all of his years in the Corps, the quickest way to find yourself getting chewed out was to not salute a general officer upon first meeting.
"Sir, Lieutenant Davenport, reporting as ordered."
Jackson saluted back.
Dropping his salute, he responded. "You don't have to call me Sir Major General, and congrats on your promotion by the way, well-deserved." Looking around once more, he then responded to the statement. "Much bigger sir."
Jackson shook his head, "In my experience, the roominess of Marine Country is comparable to your unit being woken up at O Dark Thirty, and being greeted by mountains of real bacon, sausage, eggs, and biscuits in the mess hall. There is always hell to pay. 1st Division is located between the Federation, what is left of the Romulan Empire, and the Klingon Empire. There is a heavy Orion presence in this space as well. We lost over 300 Marines last year while attacking a Borg base on Grenarisa III. You will here our Marines referring to that battle as the Battle of Death Valley. We lost dozens of Marines last month in fights against Section 31, and a twarted pirate raid on the Marine Training and Supply Depot in the system. So it is pretty easy not confusing us with the POGS on Mars."
Jackson too a minute to let everything he said to sink in.
Then Jackson continued, "As far as the 327th Marines, First Battalion took a beating in that fight with the Borg last year. It was refitted, and recertified earlier this year. Even under those conditions, 1/327 is your strongest battalion. The regiment itself has many NCOs who are combat experienced. Officers, on the other hand, well, you have a few 1st Lieutenants. The rest of them are 90 day wonders fresh out of Camp Archer. Unfortunately, due to manpower shortages, your regiment is still deployable."
The rest of the meeting went well. Jackson hoped that Davenport would live up to his reputation.
