Episode 92 - More Questions than Answers
Location: USS Pegasus, Battle Bridge
Timeline: MD5 1450hrs
ON:
Work was progressing well on the repairs to the Pegasus's Stardrive Section while a new Saucer Section was under construction.
Branson and de Luca were on the Battle Bridge helping with repairs. Branson sat at Flight Control working to re-establish connection with the thruster control. De Luca was at one of the aft stations working on the communication systems. By doing this little work, it freed up a few Engineers or Repair Techs so they could work on things that needed to be done.
The turbolift opened and CMO White exited onto the battle bridge. He approached CPO Branson, "Chief Branson?"
Branson looked back, he didn't recognize the voice. "Yes, Chief, I'm Branson."
His hand extends offering to shake, "Please, call me Joseph. I wanted to get to know some of the other enlisted crewmen and thought I could lend a hand here if you wouldn't mind another set of hands."
"Joseph, welcome aboard the Pegasus, or what's left of her right now." Branson replied with a smile. "I'm Mark and over here we have Petty Officer Aquilina de Luca. She's the Fleet Admiral's Yeoman. We're just trying to help the repair and engineering teams get a little work done on the old girl, re-establishing computer connections. She's working on communications, I'm working on the flight control systems. Once the new saucer is finished construction and fitting out we'll re-integrate the stardrive and do it all over again with the Main Bridge." Branson smirked.
The Chief smiled, "Nice to meet you Mark." He nodded to de Luca, "Same to you Aquilina. I like to stay busy and am always willing to lend a hand so what other systems have yet to have their connections re-established?"
Branson smirked as de Luca smiled. She looked back at the Chief, "Take your pick Chief. Repair and Engineering teams are still working on battle damage and we just got to work. Sensors, environmental controls, weapons control, all of it needs work."
Branson slid under the Flight Control station. "This old girl took quiet a beating, she's lucky to be back at all."
The Chief took off his jacket and rolled up his sleeve before grabbing an extra repair case from behind the engineer console and he slid under the tactical console, "Let's see how bad the old bird is." He got to work on the targeting and output controls.
From under the flight control station Branson called out. "Hey Chief, where were you posted before coming here?"
The chief moved to the control panel above to calibrate them, "Well, I transferred here from HQ where I taught advanced Away Team Tactics and Hostile Escalation Diffusion. Before that, I was stationed aboard the USS Titan for 9 years right from basic." He began putting the torpedo guidance system through it's first simulation. "Earth was nice but ..." he paused as if really being careful how he worded his next phrasing, " ... it was too relaxed for me. What about you Branson?"
"I was assigned to the Pegasus-A after basic, been in flight control the whole time. After the 'A' was lost the Admiral had been assigned to the 'B'. When he took over Starbase 400 I was assigned as primary flight controller to the Pegasus." He replaced the cover then took a seat at the station and powered it up. "I've really never thought of transferring."
"I can see that here. This is a great collective ...sorry, collection of individuals that make for an amazing crew. I've only been here a short time but I am really enjoying myself.
Branson popped his head up when he heard the word 'collective', bumping it on the bottom of the console with a thud. "Oh...Chief let's not use that word okay." He smirked as he rubbed the bump.
"I've only been here a few years myself Chief, but I agree with you, this is a really good group of Officers and Crew." de Luca replied.
White stopped for a moment, "My apologies ... definitely not the best choice of words." He finalized the torpedo guidance system and moved to the phaser lock controls. "So, I have been eating a lot in my quarters and office due to being busy. Either of you have a couple recommendations on places to get some good, non replicated food and drink?"
"Good Fellas and the Skyline are both good" de Luca replied.
"There's a great sushi bar as well Klingon and Romulan restaurants on the Promenade too." Branson added.
"Well guys I think I might have to try one of those tonight then. I appreciate the information. Anyone feel like dinner after we're done? My treat."
Both de Luca and Branson nodded. "Sounds like fun." de Luca added.
The three finished their work on the Battle Bridge of the Pegasus. It was done ahead of schedule so White approved an early evening so they could grab a bite after a job well done.
