Episode 92 - More Questions than Answers
Location: T'Lyn's Quarters
Timeline: MD5 - 2200h
T'Lyn hasn't been herself the last day or so, she has been more emotional then normal especially when on duty. She's been snapping at her team for no reasons at all. She decided to go see the doctor, who had told her something that has shocked her. She was now in her quarters looking out her window, in shock. She needed to tell Tom but half of her was nervous to, she had so many thoughts going through her mind.
She finally tapped her combadge, "T'Lyn to Jackson can you please come to my quarters I need to talk to you." She said in a different kind of voice then he was used to.
Jackson was now curious. T'Lyn sounded kind of nervous when she had called him. He did not overthink the situation as he made it down to the Officer's Residential level. He pressed T'Lyn's door chime.
"Enter," she said as she didn't even look as the doors opened she just was looking out the window trying to take everything in. She wondered how she was even going to tell Tom, and a lot of other things ran through her head.
Jax walked in to find T'Lyn looking out the window. "What is wrong?"
She heard his voice and took a deep breathe before looking over at him, "Come sit," She said as she looked at him trying to keep her emotions in check but she was failing miserably.
Now Jax felt nervous. He sat next to her, and held her hand. He could almost feel her pulse rate through her hand, and it was fast even for a Vulcan. He awaited her to say what she was going to say.
She looked at him as he held her hand, "Tom." She said as she paused for a moment taking a breathe. "Your going to be a father," She said as she looked at him. "I am pregnant, not with just one but two babies." She added as she almost held her breathe while looking at him. She cared for Tom, and didn't want to loose him.
Jackson blinked twice, then allowed her words to sink into his brain to get processed. "Wow, that was quick," he thought out loud. Then he let out what Earthers would call a rebel yell as he stood up. Turning to her, he had a big smile on his face, "Well hell. At least I know my little tadpoles are still working." He looked down at T'Lyn, still smiling. "So T'Lyn, how are you handling this news?"
She looked at him raised her eyebrow for a moment the stood up looking at him. "I am still in shock, not sure how I feel." She said as she felt unsure, she walked to the window stood looking out. She had a lot on her mind, she wasn't sure how she felt. She unknowingly had her hand on her small stomach maybe it was just a maternal reaction she wasn't sure.
Jax walked up to her, and embraced her from behind, his hands resting over her hands. "What do you want to come of this, um, situation?"
She moved her hands and placed his on her stomach and placing her hands on his. "I care about you Tom, I don't want to loose you. We raise these little ones, whether we get married or not." She said as she just turned her head a little and looked up at him.
"Well, we have however many months Vulcans have to decide if we want to cross the marriage bridge if we want. And I would love to raise the children with you. I guess the second big question will be 'How do you want to raise them?' ", Jackson said, as he felt her stomach. It has been only days since the deed was done, so he did not expect to feel movement.
She raised an eyebrow, as she turned around facing him. "Our gestation is Fourty-Four weeks, or ten months." She said as she looked at him thinking about that last question. "Well, having separate quarters, especially with mine being so small wouldn't work very well." She said looking at him, her feelings for Tom has grown especially now that she was caring his children inside of her.
She misunderstood his question, but she added an aspect to this that he did not think about. "I have plenty of room for the three of you in my quarters." He would not elaborate his last question at this time.
She looked at him for a moment, "Will cross that when the time comes unless you want to have me their now but no rush." She added then looked at him as she thought about his last question. "I want to raise them as humans, I failed as true Vulcan. But, they should also know their Vulcan heritage just the same." T'Lyn finally added looking at him.
"I don't think you failed as a Vulcan. I think you succeeded as a Vulcan raised by humans. I promise that our children will know both their Vulcan, and Alpha Centauri backgrounds. By the way, I hope you don't mind that I have a pet"
She looked up at him placing a hand on his face, she felt safe around Tom and secure. She just gazed in his eyes in silence for awhile just taking this all in.
Jax took her, and just held her, wondering what the future had planned for them.
She gently kissed him, feeling the warmth of his body close to hers, she then laid her head on his chest. "Stay with me tonight?" she asked as she closed her eyes for a moment. "Also, I have one request." She said as she looked back up at him.
He looked at her, "Which is?"
"I can get emotionally unstable during my pregnancy which can cause me not to do my job to the best of my ability." She started as she looked at him. "I need to bond with you, just only have that emotion bond that will keep me going strong. It doesn't mean we're marries or anything but Vulcans need that telepathic bond. I won't be able to read your mind or anything. If you get what I am saying." She said as she looked at him.
"So you need to meld with me. Is that what you are saying? If for some reason you touch certain memories, they will be dark ones."
"Yes that's what I am saying just to leave an imprint, I won't be looking for anything. It will only take a minute," she replied as she felt that she struck a nerve or something. "If you don't want to, I won't force you I can find another alternative to keep my mind straight." She added not wanting him to feel uncomfortable.
Jackson squeezed her hand, "I am not saying no to a meld. I am just warning you that I have some strong memories that you might trip on."
She kissed Tom, "I promise I wont." She said as she looked at him waiting for him to give her the go ahead before she started.
"Go ahead." He said.
She placed her hands on his face, "my mind to your mind, my thoughts to your thoughts. Our mind are one," She said as she placed a imprint on him and him in her. She tried to block out all of his memories and thoughts at the moment.
Tom felt a strange sensation course through his mind as soon as the meld started. He felt T'Lyn's presence, but then he also felt a chill run up and down his spine. A burst of images flashed out of his mind. First was of him running on rough terrain in a pressure suit as explosions erupted all around him. Then an image of him fighting for his life on a rocky and dark planet. The bodies of marines in the old style combat dress were stacked in multiple piles. Finally an image of him in joyful bliss, as he drank over the bodies of dead Jem'Hadar and Cardassian soldiers. Suddenly, the images stopped. A dark emptiness followed.
She had tried to keep images, thoughts out of her head but somehow it failed and she seen images flash through her mind, past her barrier. They were bonded but those images caused her to immediatly break the meld. "I am sorry.....I can usually block things out....." She said as she looked at him, she was still feeling him so the bonding had worked but the images she saw had shook her.
Jax shook his head a few times. He then looked confused. "What?"
She looked at him for a moment then walked over to the window and looked out. What she saw, she wasn't sure how to process what she saw. He could sense her confusion, pain at what she saw. She tried to collect her thoughts.
"Did my brain say something it shouldn't have?" Jackson asked. He was concerned by her reactions.
"It's the images I saw, I tried to block them out but it slipped past." She said visibly and mentally upset, confused, not sure what to really think about it.
He started to sense her pain, confusion, and even fright at what she saw. He started to have a few guesses as to what memories she stumbled on. "T'Lyn, when you are more calm, and when time permits, there are a few things about my past you just might want to know about."
She took a deep breathe, closed her eyes and drew strength from Tom, she was able to calm herself after a few moments. "I am fine now, just took me off guard." she said as she walked over to Tom and looked at him. "You can tell me," she said as she looked at him showing him she was alright.
"Well, my early years in the Marines were less than ideal. It would help if I knew which memories you stumbled on."
She sat down next to him and told him which ones she seen, when she was done she looked at him. She grabbed his hand and held it, she would always be their through thick and thin no matter what and she wanted him to know that through her gesture.
Jackson felt reassured, and hoped that she felt the same. He took a deep breath before speaking. "Well, the memory involving the pressure suit would have been my first taste of combat. I was a Lance Corporal in 2/14, fresh out of Infantry School. We beamed down to one of Tyra IV's moons to evacuate civilians. There were a few of us left to beam back up, and on top of that, there was not much left of the fleet that brought us to and from the system. " He paused a few minutes before he explained the second memory.
"Some months later, I was a field commissioned officer in 1/327. The whole battalion landed on some rock to relieve some Star Fleet personnel who were defending some Dominion relay. I personally relieved a man who later turned out to be Captain Sisko." Jackson started to sweat, and breath quicker as he continued. "I think that rock was called AR558. Anyway, the Dominion threw two Legions of Jem'Hadar against our Battalion. We are talking 1,400 Marines versus anywhere from 10 to 15 thousand Jem'Hadar. " He shook his head a couple of times. "We held off wave, after wave, after wave of Jem'Hadar soldiers in the course of 72 hours. When it was all said and done, I was the only Officer in my company left. Giaus Aquila was there too, and we saved each other's lives on numerous occasions, just in that one battle. " Tears were coming down Tom's face. The battalion, as a whole, lost half its marines. We captured 13 Jem'Hadar alive, out of that whole force."
Then the eyes that were just pouring tears, became inflamed with hatred. "I was given the company, and the battalion was refitted, just in time for a combat jump into Cardassia Prime." His eyes narrowed. "Oh, 1/327 had their retribution. There was no quarter given, nor asked for." Then a half smile formed on his face. "During the after battle mop up, Giaus and I were clearing some buildings when we stumbled upon a disagreement between Chancellor Martok, Captain Sisko, and Admiral Ross. Something about refusing to drink with Martok. After they beamed out, Martok offered us some bloodwine, and by that stage of the war, regulations were far from our minds. It was my first taste of bloodwine, and I could not get enough of it that day. Giaus tripped over the bodies in that room, and landed on the Chancellor. I was happy that the war was almost over."
She listen to what Tom told her, war was an ugly thing. They all been through it, so has she maybe not as bad as what Tom had told her, what she seen in his memories. But she was still apart of the war, still fought and watched people, comrades die. Her life was almost lost during that time, she she knew how how he felt. She had a large scar across her back that she barely lets anyone see.
She placed a hand on his face and kissed him, she was beginning to fall in love with Tom more then before.
He kissed her back earnestly. Then he made a joke, "If you think we are bad, Giuas took our experiences worse than I did. And his woman is a full blown telepath, with no clue."
She couldn't help but chuckle a little, then gazed into his eyes. "Thank you for telling me, I think it has brought us closer together." She said looking at him. She finally decided to tell him something about her, a memory that she didn't want to be reminded of. "I have something to show you," she said as she looked at him and turned around, took off her uniform jacket then lifted of her shirt. Her whole back was covered in a scar that couldn't be repaired.
Tom noticed that scar during their first interlude, but never gave it a thought. Now that she was actually pointing it out,"So what happened?"
"I was apart of Operation Return of the Dominion war, the ship i was on barley made it out, i was caught in a plasma explosion with my back facing it while trying to evacuate the area but I didn't quiet make it out before the explosion happened. I was rescued, barely alive I was in a coma for several months, after I had come out I went through a year of physical therapy to gain control of my body.
"I see." Jackson was familiar with the battle to retake Deep Space 9, but his unit was being replenished at that time, so he missed that mainly spaceborne battle. "Do your injuries still bother you?"
"They haven't the last few years, but I have a feeling it will towards the end of my pregnancy due to the weight of caring two and the pressure on my back." She said as she sat back down next to him.
"Just let me know when you will need to go on maternity leave. I don't want you to push it when you get to the critical time." He placed his arm around her. "We can do this, right?"
"I will, Tom." She said as she kissed him, "we do," she said with a smile looking down at her stomach thinking about this new journey they have started together. She was getting tired so she got up and went and changed her clothes and climbed in bed. "So Tom, will you stay with me tonight?" She asked from the bedroom.
"Of course," Tom said as he walked in to join her.
