Mission: Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: Starfleet Command, Admiral Ross's Office
Timeline: The morning after the cookout at Bremer's

OFF: Going to move us forward. Talos group, where are ya?

ON:

Admiral Bremer and Captain Andrews arrived at Admiral Ross's Office...

"Thank you both for coming. I know you're on some R&R right now, but this couldn't wait." Ross said as he extended his hand to both men.

"What's going on Bill?" Mike asked.

"There have been some new developments along the Romulan Border. The Romulans are demanding we formally re-establish the Neutral Zone. In so doing, we'll be displaying seven new colonies that were set up following the Zone's removal just after the Dominion war." Ross replied.

"What are the Romulans' reason for wanting the Zone back?" Andrews asked.

"They claim it's for their protection, or so they claim. They still believe the Federation is looking to invade." Ross said with a shake of his head.

"The more immediate problem is going to be those Colonies. This has the potential to turn into another Maquis rebellion." Mike added.

Ross nodded, "It's already stating. I'm sure you're familiar with a man named Clark?"

Mike's eyes widened. "I am. Human, Pirate operating with The Triangle. We believe he's former Starfleet, but we've never been able to get a DNA match. He's good..cunning, smart. But we arrested him a few years back."

"Last week he was being transferred from the Cestus III penal colony to the New Zealand penal colony when his transport was attacked. The attackers killed two guards and one inmate, leaving the rest aboard the damaged vessel." Ross explained.

"Do you know who broke him out?" Andrews asked.

"Yes, this man." He handed Bremer a PADD, "Former 2nd Lt. Jim Hawking."

Mike shook his head, "He was Marine XO and Fighter Wing Commander aboard SB400 when I took command there. He transferred sometime later, I didn't keep up with him after that."

"Well, it appears something happened. After leaving SB400, he transferred to the USS Dallas for six months. While he was there he was reprimanded for punching the Ship's XO. Following that he spent two months behind a desk on Archer IV before resigning his commission. He seemed to disappear for several years until he showed up last week. Starfleet Security believes both men are heading for Clark's former group within The Triangle. We have a lead that suggests they have been in talks with several colony leaders that are unhappy with the idea of having to abandon their homes if the Neutral Zone is re-established." Ross explained.

"Another Maquis uprising is not what the Federation needs right now, especially in that area of space." Andrews commented.

"I agree. Once Colonel Pike and his task group arrive with Fleet Captain Pike's remains, we'll set out for Starbase 400." Mike said. `So much for the rest` he thought.

"One thing puzzles me though, this report says two people helped Clark. Do we know who the other person is?" Mike asked

Ross again nodded, "Someone else you may remember, former Lieutenant Commander Jon Westmoreland....your Chief of Security aboard the Pegasus-A when we good command I believe?"

Mike could only shake his head. Two former members of his crew were now working hand in hand with Pirates within the Triangle, and working to start an uprising of Federation colonies. "I know Westmoreland well. By the looks of these scans, they used his old personal ship, the Starlighter, in the attack."

"I'm assigning two more ships to SB400." Ross announced.

"Bill, we already have fourteen vessels assigned...at times we're coming up short for commanders as it is. Not to mention other vessel operating in nearby sectors" Mike replid.

"I understand, but with the increase in activity I think you're going to need it. If there is a shortage in commanders, train them. The USS Steadfast, a Diligent Class ship, and the USS Constantinople, a Steamrunner class ship, will arrive here tomorrow and I'm assigning both to SB400."

Mike looked at Ross and nodded. He knew the Constantinople well, it was once commanded by Admiral Sorac Dunar, Mike's Fleet XO in the 4th Fleet. "Understood." The Diligent class was rather new to Starfleet. A small ship, slightly larger than a Defiant. Very well armed and classified as a `heavy escort` or `destroyer`. While both would be nice additions, especially in patrol and escort duties, Mike still worried if there would be enough experienced Officers to command all ships if they had to sortie them all at once.

The three men stood and shook hands. Mike kept the PADD and glanced at it again as he and Andrews left. "I'll call a Senior Staff meeting in two hours, break the news to everyone."

Andrews nodded.

As they walked toward the nearest transporter room, Mike started to think. Now with sixteen vessels assigned to Starbase 400, he could form four attack wings for fleet deployments or special operations and assignments. It sure did make things interesting to say the least. He just hoped this wasn't the start of a Maquis type rebellion in Beta Quadrant....
