Mission: Episode 91 - Bremer vs Bremer
Location: Various
Timeline: MD2 0425hrs, Concurrent with 'Breaking the Mirror'

ON:

The Runabouts along with the Beowulf refit USS Perseus launched from the Pegasus while the big ship was still under cloak. They moved in toward the Section 31 base...

Jackson was aboard the Perseus to watch his Marines perform. He want to give his officers a chance to shine, so he was not going to micro-manage the battle.

Patrick felt the excitement build up inside him. He liked dangerous missions like this. Not just for the thrill of the hunt. But also for the victory at the end. .

Maal was ready for anything, his gear was on as was his team. They where ready to take the landing bay and hold it for as long as need be.

Hurd and his team were ready for anything thrown their way, their weapons locked and loaded. Now all they had to do was wait.

The flight of runabouts entered the asteroid belt without incident. Not surprising since no one at that base expected unwanted visitors. The objective was now in sensor range of the flight. It would be in visual range soon.

Patrick brought up the view on the Zeus. He did a sensor sweep for incoming/outgoing traffic. It was negative but he chose not to breach radio silence.

But radio silence was not a choice once the group got close to the base, as the base emitted a jamming field for all communications. Something that set off an indicator in all of the ships. Time, however, did not stop, and this mission had to be done before the Pegasus fell into extreme danger. It was now up to each ship and team leader to remember their parts in the mission, and take initiative, despite the inability to communicate.

Maal's ship landed and him and his team ran out with their rifles drawn, they started firing right away. Their weapons where set on heavy stun but the enemies where set on kill. Finally after a few minutes of a fire fight and one Marine falling dead, Maal and his team had gained control of the landing bay with all enemies stunned. He tapped his comm "Maal to Marines, we have control of the landing bay."

Aboard the Peresus, Roebuck sat in the center chair of the small bridge-like cockpit area. To his right along the wall was Ramata'tar at Tactical, to his left at the Engineering/Ops station sat Lieutenant Matlock, and in front at the Flight Control position sat Ensign Sloan. Jackson sat at an unmanned work station, that he set up to show the telemetry of his Squad Leaders, emphasizing the visual and location on two larger boxed on his screen. The signals were not clear for now, due to the jamming.

"Sensor jamming still engaged. The Marines are landing now, we should expect some kind of activity soon." Matlock reported.

"I am detecting three weapons arrays coming online as well as a defensive turret. They are locking weapons onto all Runabouts." Ramata'tar reported.

"Ensign, attack pattern Delta-Three, let's take out the turret first. Ramata'tar, fire when ready. Lieutenant, advise the Runabouts to take evasive action and off load their Marines if they haven't already." Roebuck ordered.

The Perseus turned to port and increased speed at the base's weapons arrays started firing. The runabouts were small enough to evade most of the oncoming weapons fire, but if they were hit they wouldn't be able to take too many hits. One torpedo passed just to the Perseus's right as a phaser beam hit its shields.

Nearing the turret, the Perseus opened fire with her pulse phasers. They tore into its shielding. Two quantum torpedoes then impacted against it, ripping it apart.

"Ensign, take us back toward the base, First provide covering and suppressing fire." Roebuck ordered. "Does the base have their shields up?"

"I'm not picking up any shielding, it's possible the Marines have shut them down." Matlock replied.

Roebuck tapped the communications button on his chair, "Roebuck to Hurd, status report."

Pulling back the charging handle on his M-4, and checking the powerpack in his Phaser Rifle, Hurd growled, ''Hurd here, Meeting heavy resistance, the shield control panel as well as half the base Ops is secured, we have 3 prisoners, 2 dead Marines, 1 Wounded''.

"Understood Colonel, we're finishing off the last of the base's defensive arrays that powered up after once you landed." Roebuck replied. "Give us the coordinates and we'll beam the aboard."

"Commander, we've eliminated the last of the defensive arrays." Ramata'tar reported.

"Very good. Send a Security Officer to crew cabin two, we'll keep the prisoners there. Be sure to deactivate the replicator and lock out of computer access terminal." Roebuck ordered.

"It will be done." Ramata'tar replied.

"Perseus to Hurd, transporting now." Roebuck said of the comm.

Patrick and his team managed to land and exit the runabout just before the perimeter defenses disabled it and they dove for cover, returning fire and took out 2 of them. "This is McMichaels. The Zeus is disabled and we took out 2 of the 3 defense towers. Heading underground for SnS" Patrick said, leading his team to the bunker underneath.

''Understood''. Hurd said. Pointing to 4 Marines, he said, ''Two of you flank left, the other two flank right, I along with the others will provide cover fire''. Holding up 4 four fingers, Hurd mouthed ''4,3,2,1, GO!!!'' As the Marines took off, Hurd and the others popped up and provided a hellstorm of Cover fire, downing several enemy personnel in the process. When the others had reached their positions, Hurd and the rest of his men stood and advanced, clearing the operations room. After a few moments, and confirming that it was both cleared and the Auto-Destruct was disabled, Hurd opened a secure channel to all Marines and his Commanders, and said, ''This is Lt. Col. Hurd, Base Ops is secure, and the Auto-Destruct System is disabled. We are now hacking into the base mainframe''

Maal and his team still had their rifles out looking around for any more enemies who would try to re take the landing bay, so far none had tried yet. "Stay alert men, you never know what could happen!" He barked out.

After a few seconds of him saying that a team of 30 mirror personnel came charging towards them firing weapons, one Marine dropped before Maal and his men started to take cover and return fire. They where charging full force.

Maal cursing in Klingon under his breath tapped his comm "Maal to Marines, we have an enemy force coming in to try to re take the landing bay and they have us pinned down, estimate at least 25."

"McMichaels to Maal. I'm on your 4 o'clock. Coming in fully loaded. Let's hit 'em hard" Patrick said as he led his squad to Sgt Maal's position. "Aye, let 'em have it, lads. Fire!" he ordered as they provided suppression fire and came alongside Maal and troops.

Maal kept firing his rifle dropping as many as he could with his men. He then turned slightly when he heard more fire and saw McMichaels and his men head his way.

Jackson almost stood up out of his seat a few times, but reminded himself that this was not his show this time.

Roebuck over heard the Marines saying the base personal were trying to retake the landing bay and he had the Persons moved into position to provide supporting fire. It would be a slaughter, but it would save Marine lives.

"Roebuck to Hurd, we're just outside the landing bay, clear you're men out and we'll provide supressive fire." Hearing the Zeus and other Runabouts were already damaged or destroyed he wasn't worried about them being hit by phaser fire.

''We can't clear out yet, we only have 45 percent of the database decrypted and downloaded''.

"Understood, we're standing by as needed." Roebuck replied.

Patrick smiled at Maal. It was good to serve alongside veteran marines again. He occasionally looked back to make sure there rear and flanks were ok.

Maal nodded at Patrick as they kept firing defending the landing bay against the enemy.

Jackson spoke to Roebuck, "Commander, will we have room for everyone in the remaining ships?

Roebuck tapped the comm, "Yes sir, we can fit everyone aboard. The Zeus is salvageable and we can tow her out, the others are flight capable."

"Excellent. Make sure no one gets left on this rock before it blow up. That includes my dead and wounded. You are all doing a great job Commander."

Patrick saw the other runabout coming in. "McMichaels to Roebuck. I think we need an extraction. With the Zeus disabled you'll be short some seats. Get the dead and wounded out first. We can hold out here for now" he said, just before a heavy stun phaser blast caught him in the chest. Everything went black.

Maal saw Patrick fall, he ran over still firing his rifle. He grabbed the Marine one handed dragging him over towards cover while firing his rifle still with his other hand. More soldiers where starting to come up the ramp heading to help retake the landing bay.

Sergeant Hart picked up Patrick's rifle and, wielding one in each arm, aimed at the fresh troops coming at them.

Roebuck looked over at Ramata'tar. "First, see that heavy concentration of fire aimed at the Marines? Set our phasers to one tenth power and lay down supressive fire while we beam the casualties aboard."

Ramata'tar nodded, "It will be done." Tapping in commands he fired the Perseus's phasers at the base's defenders firing at the Marines. Several of them fell, stunned, giving the Marines time to take cover while the dead and wounded were beamed aboard.

"Lock tractor beam on the hull of the Zeus and pull her out. Once she's clear we'll let her drift so we don't cause anymore stress to her already fragile hull." Roebuck added.

"Perseus to Hurd and Maal, we have all the wounded and dead aboard, we're ready to beam everyone else aboard the Perseus and other operational runabouts." Roebuck said over the comm.

Decrypting and downloading, 25 percent to go'', Hurd said.

Maal tapped his badge "The Colonel and I have to finish downloading, go ahead and beam everyone else aboard." He raised his rifle looking around. "I'll cover you Colonel"

Roebuck nodded to Ramata'tar to begin transporting, and to have the other Runabouts do the same. After several moments he received a nod indicating transport was complete.

"Everyone's aboard Colonel, except you and Sergeant Maal. We have a lock on you and we're ready to pull you out at your order." Roebuck said over the comm.

''Alright, get us aboard and lets get outta here!!!''

Roebuck looked over at Ramata'tar, "Energize!"

With Maal and Hurd aboard, the Runabouts turned away from the base. The Perseus fired two quantum torpedoes into the base's landing bay to finish off any flight capable craft that might have been left behind. The Perseus then finished off the base's communications and sensor array before turning and and following the runabouts.

After a several minutes they cleared the asteroid field and were soon found by the Pegasus and Voyager. The wounded Marines were beamed aboard Voyager while the rest over to the Pegasus. Missing her saucer, the Pegasus couldn't land any of the runabouts, they they formed up with the two starships for the flight back to Starbase 400. The heavily damaged USS Zeus, the smallest of the runabouts that had deployed was squeezed into Shuttle Bay Two of the Pegasus, which had to transfer three shuttles to Voyager to make room.

During the voyage home, Jackson made it a point to visit his dead and wounded, as well as the rest of his Marines, even before he gave his regards to the Admiral. Even though there were casualties, he was proud of his people, especially Hurd, McMichaels, and Maal. Roebuck also earned his respect, for they all made it back because of him and his fleeters.

Sergeant Hart stood by as medic Sgt Worth scanned Patrick with her tricorder. She filled a hypospray and administered the medicine. "Relax Sgt. The Captain will be just fine. His armor absorbed most of the impact. He'll need a couple of days rest but other than that; he'll make a full recovery" she said. Hart breathed a sigh of relief.

The warp four flight back to Starbase 400 would be a long one...
