Mission: Episode 91 - Bremer vs Bremer
Location: USS Pegasus
Timeline: MD2 0245hrs, Following 'The Great Escape'

ON:

After speeding at slipstream for nearly four hours, the Pegasus, still cloaked, dropped arrived near to where the USS Hattori's attack on Leget Doran’s ship happened. It was within the former DMZ between Federation and Cardassian space.

Mike arrived on the Bridge soon after the Pegasus dropped out of slipstream.

"Did Cobb give you any information?" K'Temoc asked.

"Not much, but I think that's because he doesn't know much. He did say that an Admiral at Starfleet Command was who put him on this case and told him about the attack before it was even made public." Mike replied.

"That seems odd. Who?" K'Temoc asked.

"Admiral Charles Mendek." Mike replied.

"Mendek...why does that name sound familiar? Isn't he the one with unproven Section 31 ties?" K'Temoc asked.

"That's him. It's never been proven and I'm not sure Starfleet Security is even investigating anymore." Mike replied.

"Maybe not, but I know someone who's know." K'Temoc replied and walked into the Observation Lounge to contact him over a secured channel.

"Admiral, I'm picking up debris ahead, mostly from a Cardassian Keldon class cruiser but also from a Starfleet Ronin class ship." Stark commented from Science One.

Mike walked over and looked at the monitor. "How much debris from the Hattori is out there?"

"Looks like some minor hull damage, possibly from the port nacelle and forward saucer section." Stark replied.

"I also have a decaying plasma trail, leading away from here, bearing zero-three-four mark two-one-five." Waye added from Science Two.

"Chief, what's out that way?" Mike asked Branson.

Branson paused a moment before answering. "Starbase 773 and Devos is in that general direction, but the Chenal Asteroid Belt is on direct line along that course."

Mike walked down the ramp and sat in the center chair. "Chief, take us there, warp two but drop us out of warp far enough away so we can make a stealthy approach."

R'nard stood at Tactical, waiting.

As well as Jackson, who was wondering if if he should ready Hurd and McMichaels for action. Suiting the platoon up now would be uncomfortable for his troops. But, getting them close to suiting up would be a good idea. =/\=Jackson to Hurd and McMichaels, please place the platoon on Condition 3.=/\=

=^=McMichaels here General. Acknowledged=^=
=^=Sgt Hart. This is Captain McMichaels. Bravo Platoon is now condition 3. I repeat Condition 3=^= Patrick said.

=^=Hart here, Captain. Condition 3 acknowledged=^=

''Condition 3 acknowledged, platoon is on full battle alert''. Turning around Hurd yelled, ''Alright Ladies, get in your battle rattle, and check your gear NOW!!!'' Hurd ran over to his locker and began to pull on his armor and gear. It took less than 45 second, but in that period, Hurd was fully geared up. Looking around, Hurd yelled, ''TOO SLOW LADIES, SPEED IT UP!!!!''

Patrick finished only a blink of an eye behind Hurd. He locked on his helmet just as Hurd made his remark. "Frack!" Patrick said.

Maal got into his gear as quickly as he could for being a big Klingon, he finished in 60 seconds. He stood at attention.

Observation Lounge

After walking into the Observation Lounge, K’Temoc opened a secure channel to Earth. He’s not spoken to Admiral Jarovik in years. A former Admiral in the Forth Fleet and commanding officer of the now defunct S.T.O.A.T. group, Jarovik had access to some of Starfleet’s most secured intel. K’Temoc really didn’t want to have to call in this favor, he’d much rather get the info from Sevlek, but he also knew Sevlek wouldn’t be very happy with the fact they had busted Mike out of the brig or taken Cobb for a ride too.

After a few moment a gray haired Human appeared on the screen. “Encoding your transmission and bouncing it off more than two dozen comm-relays is smart. The Kuzenetsov already found Mike and Cobb missing so they’re searching for you.” Jarovik stated.

K’Temoc smirked. “We knew they’d find them missing soon enough.”

“Well, they don’t know where you are right now. I’m guessing this call is urgent and related to that.” Jarovik commented.

“I need some information on Admiral Charles Mendek.” K’Temoc replied.

Jarovik tapped a few commands into this monitor. “You think he’s mixed up in framing Mike?”

K’Temoc nodded. “Cobb said Mendek personally assigned this case to him, even before the events were officially reported.”

“That makes sense. Even though S.T.O.A.T. is no longer active I still keep my eyes open. Having a Starfleet ship attack a Cardassian vessel carrying a high profile member of the Central Command is a sure fire way to derail the Alliance Negotiations. Mendek hates the Cardassians, he lost his sons, wife, and father during the Dominion War. He also hates your brother for his continued support and pushing for better relations between the Federation and Dominion.” Jarovik described.

“That filled in a lot of blanks. In his position he’d also have access to the Hattori.” K’Temoc added.

“It would, but there’s more. Mendek has ties to Section 31. We’ve never been able to prove it enough to take to the CnC, but they’re there.” Jarovik added.

K’Temoc thought for a moment, “Wasn’t there an old Maquis base close to where the Hattori’s attack took place that Section 31 made use of for a few years after the Dominion War ended?”

Jarovik nodded. “Yes. I’ll send you the exact coordinates of it. It’s not been made public, or even reported officially, but the Hattori hasn’t been spotted since the attack either. It’s a safe bet she’s there or close by.”

“Thank you Micheal.” K’Temoc replied.

“This makes us even now.” Jarovik replied, almost cold with his tone.

K’Temoc gave a respectful nod, then closed the channel.

A moment later he returned to the Bridge and had Mike and Jackson join him at the Marine Ops station. He filled them in on the info he’d received and brought up the info the on the small base.

“It’s a rather small facility, built out of an asteroid. We’re not sure who built it, but the Maquis used it as a supply base to repair their raiders before the Dominion War. After that, Section 31 used it in a similar manner to keep an unofficial eye on the Cardassians, but they were believed to have pulled out of there over five years ago.” K’Temoc explained.

“Tom, we need to get your men down there. If it’s been used by Section 31 and to shelter the Hattori, we might be able to get more answers to what’s going on down there. At the very least it’ll eliminate their ability to cause anymore trouble.” Mike replied.

Jackson looked over the data, "So is this an intelligence gathering mission, and a base elimination mission? I need to be clear on this so I can brief the men."

K'Temoc looked at Mike for the answer.

Mike paused for a moment, then replied, "Gather intel, find a place to secure anyone you find then, and make the facility unusable. After we figure all this out, we'll advise Starfleet Command of the location and they can deal with it."

This is doable, even for the line Marines I brought. Jackson had a thought, "Admiral, if Security can handle Cobb, I can pull the squad watching him for this mission, with your permission."

Mike nodded, "Take 'em. I'll have Ramata'tar watch Cobb." He then added, "I want an assault plan within the hour. Keep in mind with the Hattori still out there I want to keep the Pegasus hidden as long as possible, so you'll probably have to make use of the ship's Runabouts to board that facility. I'll also have the Perseus brought to ready status and available to you. Mister Roebuck can commander her so you can have all your boots on the ground."

"Yes Sir, and I would like to task three runabouts ahead of time for this."

"The Blackhawk class USS Poseidon is the only Marine runabout we have aboard. Take her along with the Mustang class runabouts USS Zeus and USS Hades. Along with the Perseus, they'll give you a little more firepower as needed." Mike replied.

Jackson pressed a comm button, "Jackson to Hurd, McMichaels, Roebuck, and Maal, meet me in the Marine Briefing ASAP."

=^=Acknowledged General=^= Patrick said and headed for MC.

Hurd tapped a pannel on his armour and said, ''On my way''. He turned and left, walking at a fast pace.

Jack had re-located himself from his position in Main Engineering to the Bridge Engineering station. He had left clear instructions with Lieutenant Quan to keep things in running order and to make sure the department was ready for combat but also ready to make a fast jump to slipstream if necessary.

Once on the Bridge, he logged in to his station and also made sure he was ready just in case things happened.

"Admiral, this just came through from Starfleet Command and endorsed by the Fourth Fleet's Commanding Officer." Reobuck reported from Mission Ops, handing Bremer and K'Temoc PADDs. It looks like you've been promoted to Rear Admiral and Executive Officer of Task Force 99, and Major General Hurd has been promoted Task Force 99 Commanding Officer."

K'Temoc read over the PADD. Mike was already smiling, he knew the promotions were coming. K'Temoc smiled, then let out a laugh. "I'm sure once they realize I broke you out of the brig the'll retract this."

"If we find the real people behind the attack against the Cardassians, especially if it's a Section 31 plot, I'm sure you'll be able to keep your new position." Mike replied with a smile.

Marine Briefing Room

Jackson was already waiting for everyone to show up.

Hurd walked in, saluted the General, and walked to the back of the breifing room, standing in the shadows as quiet as a ghost.

Maal headed towards the Marine briefing room as soon as he received the call. The big Klingon entered the room, he gave a nod to those already in the room before going over standing next to the wall.

Patrick stepped in and greeted the hulking Klingon. "Sergeant Maal. I'm Captain McMichaels" he said, offering a forearm for greeting like the ancient Roman gladiators. "General" he said with a salute.

Jackson saluted back. "Have a seat gentlemen. Computer, holodisplay Bullseye 1." Above the table, a holographic display showed an asteroid belt. "Gentlemen, this is the Objective. Code named Bullseye. " The display then zoomed in on the largest asteroid in the belt, which had obvious man-made structures embedded on it. "It is an old Maquis supply base under suspected use by Section 31. Our Objective is three fold after the base is seized. First, gather intel, both from the database and and hard items you find or scan. Second, snatch and grab anyone you can that can be debriefed for more intelligence. Third, and you will love this part, render the base unusable."

Roebuck tapped in a few notes on a PADD. He'd already been told he'd be commanding the small Beowulf class refit Interceptor, the USS Perseus. He'd picked a six person crew too.

The memories of 31 flooding back into him nearly gave him a heart attack, but instead he just arched his eyebrow and said, in a low, menacing voice, ''Interesting''

Maal sat there in silence listening to the General speak.

"We are splitting up the Platoon between the three of you. David, you are taking 1st Squad, with a support weapons team. Your ride is the Poseidon. Patrick, you have 2nd Squad, with a support weapon. Your ride is the Zeus. Maal, you have 3rd Squad with a support weapon. Your ride is the Hades. All three of you will have demo on you. Mr. Roebuck will provide close fire support with the Perseus. The first problem is insertion. The Peggy cannot just beam you onboard due to hostiles in the system, possible Hattori. Insertion will be by runabout. If detected, all of your ships have heavy phasers and micro torpedoes, but remember that we have to secure the base initially. Concentrate your fire on shield emmiters and weapons systems. The Perseus should be able to handle most of that work. If not detected, even better."

Jackson pressed a few buttons, and the image zoomed in closer to the base. "The base has one shuttle bay. David, the Poseidon can beam all three of of your fire teams one at a time. You could either beam them in the corridors near the landing bay, or any important areas you deem fit that would help the mission. I will leave that up to you."

''I say we take Base Ops first so they cant blow the damn place up with us in it'', Hurd chuckled.

"Understood", Jackson replied.

Maal looked at Hurd then back to Jackson "My team and I can take control of the landing bay."

"Okay. Maal's ship will hit the landing bay first at Hurd's signal. After securing the landing bay, they can move on."

"McMichaels can then land in the shuttlebay , and dismount his squad to secure the base. If Hurd or Maal secure any prisoners, your squad can bring them to a secure point on base to be beamed out. Commander Roebuck, maintain a station keeping position with your ship, and respond as needed."

Maal gave a short nod "Understood"

Patrick nodded his approval and continued to listen.

Roebuck nodded. "Understood."

"Again, take the base, secure intel and prisoners, and kill the base. Colonel Hurd will have overall command of the mission. If your commo gets jammed, the rest of you know what needs to be done. Objective rally point will be base ops. Final rally point will be the shuttlebay."

Hurd nodded, jotting down and entering the information into his Armour's HUD.

Maal gave another nod.

"General, the Perseus has crew quarters that can be modified into a brig to hold any one that needs snatching up. We can also carry an additional Marines if you need." Roebuck replied.

Jackson nodded, "Thank you. The Perseus will transport the prisoners. Depending on how many we manage to snatch, try to keep the prisoners separated from each other.

Roebuck smirked, he'd already thought about that, after all he was a Security Officer.

Hurd raised his voice, and said, ''General, permission to speak?''

"Yes Colonel" , Jackson answered.

''You all, at least as far as i know, have never fought against 31''. ''Once upon a time, long before i became a Marine, i worked for them, and i can tell you this, they will not care you are Marines, they will not care you are fighting for right, they will not care period''. ''They see themselves as guardians of the Federation, but i can assure you they are not, they operate so far outside the law it is unfathomable, and they will not give up''. ''More than likely, they will fight to the death, and even if you manage to capture one or more more of them, be forewarned that they have may have improvements, both biologically and mechanically, that make them stronger, faster, and more devious than any enemy you have ever encountered.'' Looking at the General, Hurd said, ''I hereby request permission to use lethal force if necessary, and it most likely will be''.

Jackson looked at the Colonel, "Like I said, grab someone 'if you can'. Someone who you feel is about to kill you or your men does not qualify. Level of force is at your discretion."

Jackson stood up, "Good luck gentlemen. Now head for your ships and stand by for the go order."

Pegasus, Bridge

"We've arrived at the Chenal Asteroid Belt Admiral." Branson announced from Flight Control.

"We've not been detected." K'Temoc added.

The doors to the turbolift opened up onto the Bridge and Cobb stepped out with Ramata'tar's hand on his shoulder.

Mike walked up the ramp and to Cobb.

"The First said you have something to say?" Mike coldly stated.

"Yes, um, I...I want to help." Cobb replied in a nervous tone.

Mike looked him up and down for a moment. "How's your nose?"

"A Medical Officer set the break, it'll be alright." He paused a moment to look around then continued. "If what you've learned is true, if Admiral Mendek is associated with Section 31 and is framing you...if you are innocent, then I've been manipulated and I want to see whoever is behind this punished to the fullest extent of Federation and Cardassian law." Cobb replied, his voice sounding more confident as he spoke.

Mike thought for a moment. "First, Commander Roebuck will need a Tactical Officer aboard the Perseus, report aboard at once."

The big Jem'Hadar nodded. "It will be done."

Mike then pointed to one of the Security Officers stationed to the Bridge to keep an eye on Cobb, then told Cobb to sit in the seat typically used by a ship's counselor or other VIP. Mike knew if he was going to clear his name, having the JAG Officer that wanted to see him thrown in the brig witness the truth would be a good thing.

A moment later, the sound of beeping could be heard from several stations around the Bridge. K'Temoc glanced at his panel, "We're picking up a general distress call from a Cardassian Galor class ship. It's along the Federation/Cardassian boarder on route from DS9 to Cardassia Prime. They say they're under attack by a Starfleet Ronin class ship under the command of Fleet Admiral Mike K'Wor Bremer."

Cobb looked up at Mike in almost disbelief. Mike looked down at Cobb at the same time with a similar look. "Cobb...where was my Mirror Universe duplicate taken?"

"He...he was taken to the Starfleet Security facility in Ottawa for his final debriefing before being sent back to his universe." Cobb replied.

"Did you actually see him sent back?" K'Temoc asked.

"Well, no. That was about the time Admiral Mendek informed me of the attack on Leget Doran's ship....oh God." Cobb replied.

"Chief, set course for those coordinates, maximum warp." Mike ordered.

"Sir, once we clear asteroid field, it'll take us nearly forty minutes to get there. If we use slipsteam, we could be there in less than a minute...it's a tricky maneuver but I think I can do it." Branson replied.

"Do it, and keep us cloaked." Mike replied. "Pike, tell General Jackson his team needs to depart, now."

Lee nodded then turned back to his console, tapping a button "Captain Pike to General Jackson, Admiral Bremer has given you the green light to go now."

Jackson hit his commbadge, "Jackson to Strike Force, launch now, now, now."

Patrick was locked and loaded. This was the third most exciting part of a mission; right behind pursuit and victory.

Maal was ready to roll and gave the order for his ship to launch.

"Lokran, have weapons and shields on hot standby. I don't want the Hattori to see us coming." Mike added.

"Aye, sirr." said R'nard. He set up the weapons and shields and hovered over them, ready at a microsecond's notice.
