Mission: Episode 91 - Bremer vs Bremer
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD1 1625hrs, Current

ON:

Mike sat in the center chair of the USS Princeton. The Constitution Refit class ship was on its way back to Starbase 400. Following the departure of the Odo, Krazz, and the Dominion ship from Starbase 400, Mike was asked to attend a conference on Starbase 773 in the Devos system of the Alpha Quadrant, close to Cardassian space. Mike had wanted to ‘try out’ the Princeton following the last of her refits and upgrades, so he took her instead of the Pegasus.

The weeklong conference itself was uneventful. Most of the topics were in regards to ship deployments in the Alpha Quadrant as the Federation/Klingon Alliance grew closer to an alliance with the Cardassians, however some time was also spent on the Starfleet/Cardassian Officer exchange program and Liaison Officer assignments. Mike managed to keep Gul Mavek as the Cardassian Liaison to Starbase 400, after a rather heated exchange with Leget Doran. Doran was a hard-nosed, older Cardassian. He didn’t like the current relations between the Cardassians and the Federation/Klingon Alliance. He spoke out to end the exchange programs, but was overruled by other members of the Cardassian Central Command, including Evek and Garak. There was also time, over two days, spent talking about the Dominion. The Cardassians were still angry they had been allowed back into the Alpha Quadrant and traveled all the way to Starbase 400. Odo being there helped, but it was still a touchy subject.

Thinking back on the week, Mike just flashed a smirk and laughed to himself. Doran had the well-being of his people at heart, but his prejudices were getting the better of him.

“Admiral, we’re approaching Starbase 400.” Banson reported from Flight Control.

Mike snapped back to the here and now as he looked up at the screen. “Take us out of slipstream Chief. Petty Officer de Luca, open a channel to the Station.”

“Open Admiral.”

“Starbase 400, this is the USS Princeton, requesting permission to dock.” Mike said over the comm.

“Permission granted Princeton, welcome home.” The reply was crisp and Mike didn’t recognize the voice.

As the Constitution Class refit slid through the giant space doors, Mike watched the docked ships as the Princeton passed by. One stuck out, the USS Kuznetsov.

‘Why are the Kuznetsov and Commander Cobb back?’ Mike thought to himself. He didn’t care for the angry JAG Officer with a chip on his shoulder, but his presence on the Station was a concern. Last time he was here it was to take Mike's Mirrior Universe duplicate to Earth for ‘questioning’ and then to be returned to the Mirrior Universe.

Once the Princeton docked Mike stopped by his Quarters, grabbed his bag, made sure the rest of the crew had disembarked, and headed for the airlock himself. As he walked down the access way and stepped foot aboard the Station, he was greeted by several Officers. Six Security Officers he didn’t know, Commander Cobb, Gul Mavek, Admiral T’Lar, Fleet Admiral Sevlek, Generals Jackson and Hurd, and Commander Lokran.

Mike paused a moment, noting that the Security Officers he didn't know were all armed and their hands were resting on the sidearms. Mike then looked at Sevlek, T’Lar, Mavek, Hurd, Jackson, Lokran, and then Cobb. “What’s going on?”

“Set the bag down gently. Are you armed?” One of the Security Officers said as he took a step forward.

“No, I’m not.” Mike replied as he set the bag on the deck.

“Hands behind your head, turn around slowly.” The Security Officer added.

Mike did as he was ordered. His hands were cuffed and then he was turned back to face everyone.

“Mike K’Wor Bremer, you’re under arrest for the murder of Leget Doran and the destruction of the Cardassian vessel Kamar.” Cobb announced with almost a smile on his face.

A confused expression crossed his face. “What are you taking about?”

His question wasn’t answered. Two Security Officers grabbed Mike’s arms as everyone else fell in behind and he was escorted to the Brig. Once there, Mike was locked inside a Security Cell and the cuffs were deactivated. Once the forcefield was on, Mike turned around to face everyone. Commander Lokran stepped out of the shadows and stood beside T’Lar.

“Will someone tell me what the hell is going on?!” Mike finally said.

“We’re aware of your fight with Leget Doran during the Conference.” Cobb started.

“We didn’t have a fight, only a disagreement. Doran argued with nearly all of the Starfleet Admirals and Klingon Generals that attended.” Mike replied as he looked around at everyone outside the cell.

Cobb then received a PADD from one of the Security Officers, tapped in a few commands, then turned it to face Bremer. “Is that your security authorization code?”

“Yes.” Mike replied.

“That code was used to access the USS Hattori. That’s when you and a select group of Officers used the vessel to attack and destroy Leget Doran’s ship.” Cobb smirked. “We’ve covered all the bases. We were able to recover partial internal visual scans that you’d tried to erase. We also recovered your DNA from the Hattori’s Bridge.” Cobb added.

Mike had a concerned and puzzled look on his face. His mind raced, he remembered seeing the Ronin class USS Hattori in orbit of Starbase 773 during the conference. It was a brand new ship, waiting for her first Captain and crew at the Starbase, but he’d never gone aboard her.

“When did all this happen?” Mike asked.

“Oh come on, you’re fully aware...” Cobb started before Mike cut him off.

“When?!” Mike said with anger in his voice.

“Twenty-one hundred hours the last day of the conference.” Cobb replied before turning to leave the Brig. Three of his security officers remained behind, watching Mike.

Mike looked out at several of his Officers...his friends. He didn’t do what he was charged with, but at the moment he didn’t know how to prove his innocence.

Sevlek watched the entire scene play out. He looked at Bremer, his friend could be hotheaded, but would never do something so reckless. Klingon blood didn't make you stupid, despite some people thinking that it did. He stepped closer to the forcefield separating him from Bremer, "We will endeavor to uncover the true events of this time." He paused, then turned to T'Lar, "Admiral T'Lar, as standard operating procedures dictate, I am placing you in acting command of Starbase 400 and the Ares Operational Theater, pending the results of this investigation."

Under the current circumstances, Deela reluctantly answered, "Yes sir." Deela couldn't believe what was happening. No one was asking her but she was confident that Mike was telling the truth. Her Betazoid and Vulcan heritage gave her the advantage over the others in the room. She could sense Mike's confusion mixed with anger. By his reaction alone, she could see that Mike had no idea that Leget Doran was even dead. But she couldn't prove that he had nothing to do with his death based on 'empathy.' She needed physical evidence.

Seeing Cobb walk away with a sickening smug expression, she went after him and stopped him before he had gotten too far. She called out to him, "Commander Cobb. I do not know what is going on here but I do believe that Admiral Bremer is telling the truth that he did not murder Legit Doran despite your evidence against him. I assure you that we will prove his innocence." Deela wanted Cobb to know that they weren't going to stop looking for the truth.

Cobb smirked. “You’re welcome to try, but we have all the proof we need. Fleet Admiral Akaar has signed off on the arrest and is currently working out an extradition order. The Cardassians want to try him in their own courts for the murder and loss of their ship.”

Deela really wanted to wipe his face with the floor but she chose to walk away and return to the brig where Mike was being held.

Jackson knew something was up when Cobb was back on the base. After witnessing what just transpired, he liked Cobb even less than he did before. Multiple thoughts ran through his mind as that stuck up fleeter read the charges, and presented his "evidence". Considering the source of the evidence, Jackson put about as much weight into the evidence as a feather in zero-G. As for Mike Bremer hauling off, and taking out an allied ship because he did not like the passenger, he did not believe it for one bit. Even his cousin, Phelan Ward, would not even do that, even if the though would cross his mind. To Jax, this whole situation was a red flag on so many levels. Jackson also ran a few contingency plans through his head. Some of those plans would be walking a very thin line between JAG's authority, and his loyalty to his Commanding Officer. He prided himself to be ready for anything, in either case. =/\=Jackson to Aquila, Birdman 1.=/\= There was no answer to the message, which was procedure. Cobb looked at him for a minute, and Jackson responded by scratching his nose with his middle finger, a gesture that was not in common use on Earth, but very well used on Alpha Centauri. He smiled as he did it.

R'nard had been silent through this affair, but something didn't smell right. He would find out what was wrong.

Jewel stood there and watched Mike get arrested but, something just wasn't sitting right, she knew Mike well enough to know he didn't do this. "What do you want me to tell Janice?" She asked Mike and glaring at Cobb, she didn't like him at all.

Mike tried to smile at Jewel. “Tell her not to worry, we’ll find out what’s going on.”

Deela moved next to Lokran, "There are a few ways to get someone's DNA that I know of which leads me to believe that someone is framing Bremer. I am thinking Bremer's counterpart may have something to do with this. Maybe you could track his whereabouts."

Mike waited for everyone to leave before he slumped down on the small cot like bed in the cell. He had a bad feeling his Mirror Universe duplicate was behind the attack and was framing him, but that also meant he’d had help escaping custody. If the duplicate had escaped on his own, Cobb wouldn’t be here arresting him now. Mike leaned back against the wall, who would have helped him and why attack a Cardassian ship?

A moment or two later, K’Temoc walked into the Brig. He was stopped immediately by the Security Officers Cobb had left there.

“What’s your business here?” One of them asked.

“I’m here to talk to my brother.” K’Temoc calmly, yet coldly replied.

“Commander Cobb said no visitors without his approval.” The Security Officer replied.

K’Temoc sized up each one. About the same moment Mike stood up and took a step toward the force field. This caused of the Security Officers to step over toward the force field and put his hand on his weapon.

“Stand down son.” Mike said to the young man.

Mike looked over at K’Temoc, he knew his brother wanted to bust him out, but it wasn’t a good idea. The more Mike thought about it, he wanted things to play out a little more in hopes some of the unanswered questions might be answered.

“K’Temoc, it’s okay, talk to Cobb and see if he’ll let us talk. There’s no need to ruffle the feathers of these men, they already look nervous.” Mike’s tone was calm. “I was going to go aboard the Pegasus, she has a patrol coming up at 02130hrs tonight. Obviously I won’t be going anywhere, so I’d like you to command her. I’d recommend taking Pike, Lokan, Branson, Jackson, Stark, Wayne, Ramata’tar, Croesus, Solomon, and Takabe with you. Just clear it with Admiral T’Lar.” Mike said.

K’Temoc nodded. “All right, I’ll make sure it’s taken care of. You need anything?”

“Something to eat would be nice.” Mike smirked.

K’Temoc eyed one of the Security Officers for a moment, then turned and left the Brig. The Officer looked over at the one closest to the force field. “Send a message to Commander Cobb, let him know we’re feeding the prisoner.”
