General Jackson's Office

When either on mission, or when stood down, the 1st Marine Division has that one element of commonality that forever bonds it to the other divisions of the Federation Marines. It is a necessary evil to keep any combat unit going. Officially known as Administrative Requirements, the common term used by officers is Paperwork. And Brigadier General Jackson was knee deep in it.

Not much time has passed since the "Battle Of Death Valley", but as the display screen was telling the General, the division refit was going well. The three battalions, and one armored company that locked horns with the Borg were now at full strength, and were working on acquiring their combat ratings on the Kaleb III Training Depot. New equipment was being unpacked, and processed as soon as a ship delivered it. Jax was doing a good job overseeing and updating the unit status reports, but he was burning out in the process.

Adjusting his Pistol belt, Colonel Hurd rang the door chime, awaiting permission to enter.

The sound of the chime was a welcomed distraction from the task at hand for Jackson. "Come."

Hurd walked in, saluted, and said, ''Lt. Colonel Hurd reporting for duty sir!!''

Jax returned the salute. "You look well David. Welcome aboard" He shook his hand. Looking down at Hurd's pistol belt, Jax asked, "Are you still using antiques for sidearms?"

Dropping the salute, Hurd chuckled and said, ''Better than a phaser, which i also carry'', he said shaking his head.

"Can't help you with the phaser but," Jackson pulled out a small box out of his desk drawer, "I am sure you can use these." The box read, "CCI Gold Dot, Caliber .45 ACP, 230 gr JHP."

Taking the bullets, Hurd said, ''Thank you sir, i was running low on ammo myself''.

Jackson then handed Hurd a PADD. "Okay David, here is an overview of 1st Division's status. The three battalions who fought the Borg have been refitted with new Marines and equipment, and are conducting training and combat evaluation at the Kaleb III Training Depot. They should get their combat rating in the next few weeks. Same with one of our Armored companies. "

Looking at the PADD, Hurd said, ''Looks good, although i am sorry for the beating you took, and for not being there with you''.

Jax gave David a reassuring pat on the shoulder, "You had no control over your availability at that time. There is noting to feel guilty about." Remembering not only their losses, but his own wounds, Jax stared toward the deck for a moment. "And trust me when I say that you were blessed for not being there."
After a minute of silence, the General continued to speak...

"As for our overall current situation, we just assisted in a prisoner transfer from Security to a starship attached to Star Fleet Security. The prisoner was Mike Bremer's alternate universe counterpart. We also have a lost Changeling on the station, and a Dominion delegation here to retrieve him. So far, no problems."

Arching his eyebrow, Hurd said, ''Sounds like quite a complicated situation, what are the security risks, both with the prisoner and the Jem'Hadar and that Changeling?''

Jax responded, "The starship that received the prisoner for Star Fleet Security departed, and is long gone. But the whole transfer, as well as the officer receiving the prisoner gave off alot of bad vibes. Not to mention that officer was a complete and pompous jerk.

"The Changeling himself has appeared harmless so far, and very confused about his self identity, as well as his abilities. Nothing about the Jem'Hadar so far, since I have yet to meet the Dominion Delegation. I get that opportunity this afternoon with all the brass. But keep in mind that even though the war was over almost two decades ago, there will no doubt be some....hard feelings between Veterans on both sides. Hell, I even have some of those feelings, but our resident Jem'Hadar exchange officer has been very therapeutic in that regard. We'll just have to wait and see."

"I do have one extra task to do, if you are up to it. Since we have VIPs, Jem'Hadar, etc... here, I ordered a QRF Platoon to be on standby, just in case. If I need to call on them, I would prefer an experienced officer instead of a 90 day wonder to lead it. Interested?"

Smiling yet again, Hurd said, ''Sir, i am always up for action, you know that''.

Jackson smiled back. "Why did I know you would say that? Never mind. The QRF is shacked up on Section 10 of Marine Country, with most of their battle rattle already on. If I make an emergency call, they will be ready to go in less than 5 minutes. It will be up to you if you want to bunk near them in your office, or if you will just meet them at the problem spot. "

''Sounds Good, who all is on the QRF?''

Jackson typed a few commands on his console, and looked at the display. "Looks like Second Platoon. Alpha Cpmpany, 3/22 Marines. Their Platoon Commander is Second Lieutenant David Weber, fresh out of Infantry School. Now if there isn't anything else, I have have to gt ready for the circus later. Dismissed."
