Mission:
Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: En route to USS Essex
Timeline: MD2 0145hrs
Jack sat in his armchair in his quarters for a few moments. He was still trying to process everything that had taken place in the past few days and he considered himself to be a very lucky man indeed.
After being approached by Talia with information that could restore his rank and clear his name after being reduced in rank for an incident he was wrongly convicted for, Jack had approached Deela and Fleet Admiral Bremer to go and meet her to collect the evidence. Deela, Phoenix, Quan and Ramata’tar had gone with him as Bremer had granted the use of the Steadfast for the mission. After finding out that Talia was in league with the Klingon warrior Toral and later deducing she was in fact his prisoner as well, his friends on the Steadfast had rescued them from Toral's ship.
But... Toral had sworn that this incident was only the beginning between him and Jack and Jack only now realised he'd made a new enemy. Toral had shot Talia and injured her and right now she was being treated in the infirmary on SB400. Jack had remained by her bedside in the Steadfast's Sickbay on the trip home and he still wasn't sure if Talia was truly playing games anymore but he knew that she was truthful in wanting to help him clear his name.
Once home, Deela had reported to Bremer and Jack had recieved a summons. Once he arrived, it turned out that the Admiral had spoken to the JAG Office and due to the evidence provided, his rank of Commander was restored and the convictions against him quashed.
Now, after a decent few hours sleep, he was getting ready to go and see how Talia was doing when he received orders to report to the Essex asap. Jack stood up from the armchair, brushed down his uniform and took a moment to take in the three gold pips on his collar. Soon they'd be a natural sight to him, but he took in the moment. After feeling a surge of confidence return to him, Jack left his quarters and double-timed it the the Intrepid Class' docking bay.
Once on board, he stowed his things at his quarters on board and took the turbolift to the bridge. A slight worry tugged at him as he heard other officers on the way mentioning in whispers one word. Borg. Jack put it aside as the turbolift doors opened and headed to Engineering. After checking in with his junior officer for the duration of the mission and completing a quick inspection of Main Engineering, Jack was satisfied the department was ready for departure and headed for the bridge.
As he stepped out of the turbolift, Jack saw Deela and Clifford already on the Bridge.
"Commander Jack Solomon, reporting as ordered Admiral," Jack said, feeling an urge of pride. He headd over to the Bridge Engineering station and liased with Main Engineering. "You have all propulsion systems ready for departure. Impulse, Warp and Slipstream are available at your command." Jack admitted to himself that Commander had a familiar but nice ring to it...
