Mission:
Episode 89 - Futility's Return
Location: USS Venator, Bridge
Timeline: MD2 0056hrs
ON:
Roebuck had been aboard the Venator since right after the briefing. He’d been looking over the ship’s systems and helping the stand-by crew already aboard the ship get her ready to depart.
Ensign Regan was already at Flight Control and had plotted the course the ships would be taking. Maxwell was at Ops and was making sure the ship’s systems were online and power was supplied as needed. Ramata’tar sat at Tactical and had the ship’s defense systems and weapons ready.
Quan had just arrived at his console, having spent most of the time since coming aboard in engineering. He turned to the CO, "Sir, Engineering reports thrusters and impulse online, warp engines will be online in five minutes, once they have warmed up."
“Thank you.” Roebuck replied.
Ramata’tar gave a nod to Quan. Having just worked with the man during the Steadfast’s mission, he respected the Human and was ‘happy’ to be working with him again.
Once satisfied with the ship’s readiness, Roebuck took a seat in the Captain’s chair. It was his first time in command of a ship in a combat situation in quiet some time. Inwardly, he was a little nervous, but he trusted himself, his assigned crew, and the ship. He sent the Admiral a message letting him know the Venator was ready to go.
Roebuck’s thoughts drifted back to his only encounter with the Borg. He was aboard the USS Los Angeles during the attack on Earth in 2373 as a young Lieutenant JG. On the Bridge, he was working to keep the shields up while the Chief Tactical Officer handled the weapons systems. The ship was caught in a Borg holding beam when several Borg beamed aboard. The ship’s XO and Operations Officer were quickly assimilated. Roebuck, the ship’s CO, and Tactical Officer fired on the Borg and were able to eliminate three of them before the forth over powered the Chief Tactical Officer and assimilated him. The ship’s Captain, thinking quickly, used the ship’s transporters to beam off the Borg...including their former crewmates that had been assimilated only moments before. In that instance, Roebuck was thrust into the role of Chief Tactical Officer. Then, through a matter or luck and amazing timing, the Enterprise-E showed up fired on the Borg ship. When it destroyed the holding beam that was trying to lock onto the USS Defiant, the explosion sent a feedback through the Borg ship’s systems and also disabled the beam holding the USS Los Angeles and freed the ship. Heavily damaged, the ship stayed in the fight and helped to destroy the Cube.
Blinking a few times, Roebuck returned his attention to the here and now, and waited for the order to move out. “First Ramata’tar, advise the Pegasus we’re ready to move our.”
“It will be done.” The Jam’Hadar replied.
