Mission: Episode 88 - Memories Lost, Trouble Found
Location: Kaleb IV, New Hampton City, Starfleet Operations Center
Timeline: MD5 930hrs

ON:

Dow, K’Temoc, and Stark were in the Starfleet Installation’s Operations Center on Kaleb IV. The damage from the Pirate raid had been moderate, but focused. While the Operations Center had held up well structurally but its older computer systems hadn’t been able to keep up with the changing situation like it needed to.

While Damage Control Teams were making repairs to damaged defensive systems, reloading spent and stolen torpedoes, and even installing new planetary shield generators and defensive arrays, Dow, K’Temoc, and Stark were upgrading the Operation Center’s computer hardware, LCARS version, and even adding in a few new systems.

“Ensign, when you have that panel finished, start work on replacing the blown out interface at communications.” Dow ordered an Engineering Office.

“I’ve finished with the LCARS update.” Stark said aloud. “We’ve also finished installing the new MSD. It’s similar to the new on in Ops on Starbase 400. Holographic display and interface, quick access to most communication and security functions. It’ll also help keep track of incoming and outgoing vessels within the system. If something were to happen to Starbase 400, this facility could serve as a back up to the Station in regards of monitoring the Kaleb system, tracking and directing vessel, and even be a defensive command post for the sector.” Stark explained.

“Nice work Mister Stark.” K’Temoc replied with a smile. “We’ve almost finished with the new power relays and then we’ll start on the new dedicated access lines to the computer core.”

Stark looked up, “The core, I was just about to say that’s where I’ll be for the next few hours. I’m having a new one beamed down from the station. The computer core here is nearly ten years old, it’s never been upgraded, but we have a nice new shiny core that was meant for the USS Toyko that’s just sitting in a cargo bay. It’ll take a little time, but it’ll be a major upgrade over what the Starfleet facilities here have now.”

“You’re going to install a core meant for a Sovereign class vessel down here?” Dow replied with a smirk.

K’Temoc smirked, “Don’t under estimate Commander Stark when it comes to modifying something and making it work.”

“Oh I’m not!” Dow replied with a smile.

“Well, while you two praise the miracles I preform, I’ll be two hundred meters below the surface working on the core replacement.” Stark replied with a smirk of his own as he headed for the core access lift.

After a moment, Dow looking over at K’Temoc, “So this guy is the real deal?”

“Seems to be. He was able to upgrade the Station’s holosuits and systems to handle Vic’s program, he’s headed all of the Slipstream, LCARS, and weapons upgrades and refits to the Station’s vessels since he arrived. He’s also heading the work on the Type-XIV phaser array development. I’ve looked over some of his notes, logs, and records...he’s brilliant, maybe a little disorganized, but he also likes to tinker and use outdated tools.” K’Temoc replied.

“What do you mean outdated?” Dow asked as he closed an access panel on the Tactical station.

“He has these two...robots that help him, they look like something from the late twentieth or early twenty-first century. Very basic and rudimentary, not much use to them really. He also likes to build things with his hands using old tools, models of ships and other things. He says it helps him think.” K’Temoc replied.

“So he’s a little eccentric.” Dow replied with a smirk, “Not jealous are you?”

“Of what?” K’Temoc asked as he looked up from a panel he was working on.

“Him being the R&D Director on the Station now. I know you always enjoyed being in charge of R&D and working on new technology and designs.” Dow replied.

“I’m not jealous, at all I enjoy being in charge of the Special Operations Team and helping with Intel and Security. I still play around with some designs and offer advice on other projects too. He’s good, real good, he can have R&D.” K’Temoc smirked. Of course he missed it a little though, but he wouldn’t change positions...or admit it.
