Mission: Mission 76 - Home comings
Location: Starfleet Command
Timeline: Following Bremer's last post

ON:

"Captain Harrison, " Toddman again spoke up. "As the Chief Security Officer, you know how important it is to maintain security as well as know the members of the crew. While in route to Earth, it was discovered that there were Romulan agents aboard the Pegasus, and this lead to a fire fight aboard. How did these agents get aboard the ship, and why did the fire fight take place?

Alex wasn't happy with his tone but she held her cool, "Well, they were assigned. Major Miller had some issues but nothing to prevent her from doing her job and Marine Lieutenant Marr was an exemplary officer. His psyche evaluations and service records were all in order. There were no indicators that he was a Romulan agent. And as for Major Miller, she was just a pawn in all of this. Marr used her to get his message sent out. She assumed that Marr was on the up and up and why wouldn't she? There was no reason not to trust him. The only thing she was guilty of at the time was being ticked off at Admiral Bremer here and allowing Marr to send his message without knowing exactly what it was that he was sending."

Alex sighed slightly before continuing, "Look, all I can tell you is that we detected an unapproved encrypted communique from Marr's quarters and found that Miller gave the authorization codes to send it. When we went to take them into custody so we could question them, Marr fired upon us. Then Miller joined him for reasons unknown. Once we had the place secure, Miller was put in the brig and Marr was taken to sickbay. Unfortunately, Marr died before we could get any answers. I'm assuming that he started firing upon us because he was desperate and didn't want to give up any information. He was even willing to take his own life." She eased back into her chair, hoping that her answer satisfied them. She couldn't tell by Toddman's expression.

"Captain Greenwood, Lieutenant Colonel Highsmith...neither of you were involved in the incident we're discussing, I'm curious why you're attending this meeting today." Nakamura inquired.

Highsmith decided to speak "Admiral, as General Bremer's Chief of Staff, I am bringing myself up to speed with recent events in order to better advise her on how to prevent further incidents and eliminate holes in the security in our sector." he said, his only purpose was to get his superior out of this mess and he would do what he could.

This meeting had gone way outside of Ryan's comfort zone. He never thought they would be questioned returning to Earth. Ryan spoke.

"Admiral, I came along as per the request of Admiral Bremer. The recent events with the Romulans have heightened concerns about action against the federation as you know, sir."

Nakamura only nodded...

"Captain K`Temoc, you authorized the Marines aboard the Pegasus to deploy on a mission to capture additional people aid Admiral Jellico and the Romulans. Was any foresight given to civilians in the area?" Toddman asked.

"Sir, collateral damage is always considered. That's why went sent in a small force, for a pin-point strike. We did have air support in case those agents had shuttles or runabouts, we could more easily intercept them. At no time were civilians in harms way. Furthermore that area of Germany is sparsely populated, which is probably why they picked it for a base of operations." K`Temoc leaned back in his seat as he finished.

"Captain Andrews, " Nakamura asked, "Captain Mark and yourself were able to circumvent certain security protocols while looking though Starfleet Command records. How did you do this? Also, you were able to make direct contact with Admiral Ross using non-Starfleet methods...that have been linked to previous members of the group Section 31. Are you a member of Section 31 Captain?

Terran sat up a little straighter, looking at Nakamura, but not saying a word.

"Major General Fultian-Bremer, for the record, can you describe how you were taken hostage and recovered by the USS Cairo, as well as any details of events while you were held?" Fleet Admiral Nechayev asked.

Before Janice could answer, Mike stood up. "All right, this has gone on long enough. Instead of questioning and accusing my Senior Officers like they were on trial, you should be pinning medals on them. Once again, they have put their butts on the line for the Federation and the safety of its citizens."

Nechayev also stood and cut him off, "Admiral, that will be quite enough..."

"No, Alynna, you're going to allow me to finish." Mike continued, clearly annoyed. "I mean no disrespect, but instead of being on a witch hunt and trying to nit-pick what they did in hopes of finding a problem and reason to push blame off on them, you people need to look at yourselves and Starfleet Command as a whole. Admiral Jellico was a member of your staff, not mine. He committed treason by feeding sensitive materials to the Romulans which directly caused the deaths of hundreds of Starfleet personnel when Romulan agents set off a bomb aboard Starbase 400 before a Tal Shair fleet attacked, then not to mention he was in on the kidnapping of Starfleet Officers including Major General Fultian-Bremer, Admiral Janeway, Lieutenant Rogers, and my son. In the end, it was these Officers and the rest aboard Starbase 400 that but a stop to this, and also saved your collective asses. Yes, we had to break a few rules to get results, but that is what this crew does, we get results. Now, if you want to put blame on someone, then blame me. Not my crew. Otherwise, this `meeting` is over."

The room fell silent for a few moments. SB400's crew looking at Starfleet Command's core leaders, them looking back. Finally, Nakamura spoke.

"Fleet Admiral, I recommend the removal of Admiral Bremer from command of Starbase 400..."

"That's not the right call here." Admiral Ross spoke up for the first time during the session. "Admiral Bremer is correct. If it wasn't for him and his crew, we could have a Romulan fleet in orbit of Earth right now, and us meeting them to discuss a cease fire."

"I agree with Bill." Janeway finally spoke up. "Fleet Admiral, if anyone knows a thing or two about having to break a rule for the greater good, it's me. What these men and women did was to protect the Federation. We didn't, they did. They shouldn't be punished for that."

"I am inclined to agree at this time." Nechayev replied a moment later, looking over at Ross and Janeway before looking back at Bremer, "But no one is above Starfleet regulations. Consider yourself warned, Admiral."

Mike nodded. "If that will be all..."

"Yes, you're free to go." Nechayev replied. Nakamura stood and quickly walked out. Ross and Janeway stood and nodded with smiles before leaving as well. Toddman and Nechayev soon followed after picking up a few PADDs.

Finally, the SB400 crewmembers present stood.

"Inform your crews, shore leave is granted to anyone that wants it. We'll remain here for a few days before returning to Starbase 400. Be sure to pass along to them, my personal thanks and gratitude. Dismissed." Mike smiled to the Officers before taking Janice by the hand and leaving the room.
