Saying Goodbye...

After the Briefing, Bremer made his way toward the Docking Bay and the airlock for Docking Port 30. It was a solemn walk for the Admiral, as his thoughts raced over the last twenty years. Becca and K’Wor had certainly grown up, and matured into young adults Mike was very proud of.

However, today was a day to let go, because both of his oldest children were leaving for Starfleet Academy. While most new Cadets were seventeen or eighteen, K’Wor and Becca were twenty and would be seen as ‘old’ by many other cadets, but with the training and experience they had gained on Starbase 400, the jokes would be worth it.

As Bremer walked up to the group that included K’Wor, Becca, Janice, Christopher, and K’Temoc, Mike couldn’t help but smile and inwardly shed a tear. “Sorry I’m late, I had to send a quick message to DS14 to let them know our relief force will be departing soon.”

“It’s okay Dad.” Becca replied with a smile.

“You sure you don’t need me to stay with Graline coming?” K’Wor asked.

“I’m sure, you’re already going to be a day late, and we’re already held the USS Cochrane long enough.” Mike replied.

Janice gave loving hugs to her step-children that she saw as her own, Becca hugged her uncle K’Temoc, then K’Wor went to shake his hand before the two also shared a hug. Finally, Mike, who was not one to show his emotions...especially his softer side, hugged each of his kids.

“Y’all be careful, listen to your instructors...” Mike then shook his head, “You both know the drill.” He smiled again.

“Love you Dad.” Becca said as he hugged him again, then K’Wor added, “Love you Dad.” K’Wor and Mike had a very rocky road as father and young boy, but they had bonded well over the last few years.

“Let us know you’ve arrived safely and are settled in, or I’ll bring the Durga after you!” Janice said with a smile as K’Wor picked up his younger brother Christopher and they hugged.

Finally, K’Wor and Becca shared a look, and then headed down the walkway to USS Cochrane. Mike, Janice, Christopher, and K’Temoc walked to the closest observation window and watched the Intrepid Class ship undock, back away from the docking port, and slowly glide of the space doors and away from Starbase 400 on its way to Earth.
