Alex was happy to get back home. Alex waited for Paul to get home. The chime rang and Alex answered it. It was Deela with a bottle in hand, "Welcome back Alex.I come bearing gifts." She smiled as she stepped into Alex's quarters.
Alex took the bottle from Deela and set it down on the table. She opened it and poured themselves a drink. She handed a glass to Deela and then sat down.
Alex took a breath, "So, how are you doing Deela?"
Deela shrugged, "I'm doing okay. I haven't had a chance to actually deal with recent events. I've kept myself busy. I'm sure at some point, I'll have to deal with it. How about you? I heard that you had a run in with a grieving father."
Alex sighed, "I see news travels fast. Some crazy man was upset about his son, someone who no longer worked for Starfleet. I really don't want to talk about it. It happened and it's over now. It's time to move on."
Deela raised an eyebrow, "I think we should talk about it."
"Okay." Alex took a drink, "I'll tell you what. I will talk about what happened on my honeymoon if you are willing to talk about the death of your husband."
Deela nodded, "Okay then, let's talk." They talked for a few hours when Paul walked in the door.
Alex stood up, "Oh good, you're home. We haven't had much of a chance to talk about what you did while I was gone."
Paul adjusted his collar, "Sure." He looked over at Deela, "Hello Admiral T'Lar."
Deela chuckled, "I am not on duty. You can call me Deela."
"Sorry...Deela." Paul looked back at his mom.
Alex patted the seat next to him, So tell us. How's Rachael?"
Paul could feel his face blush, "She's good. We've just been hanging out."
Alex pried some more, "Just hung out with each other. That doesn't give me much. Like what kind of things did you do?"
Paul shifted in his seat, "You know, stuff. We talked, had a few lunches and dinners, stuff like that."
"Oh, I see. Well good. I'm glad you two are doing okay."
Paul nodded, "I really need to shower so if you will excuse me." He hugged Alex, "Glad to have you back."
Deela chuckled softly as she watched Paul walk to his room. Alex looked over at Deela, "What are you finding that is so funny?"
"I hate to tell you this but your son is no longer a child."
Alex didn't understand what she was getting at, " Well of course he's a man."
Deela leaned forward, "No, no, he has finally become a man."
Alex thought for a moment and then gasped, "What? No way!"
Deela nodded, "Yes way."
"You really think that Paul and Rachael...?" Alex couldn't even say it, "What makes you say that? I mean, how do you know?"
Deela explained, "First of all, he tried to evade your questions. He couldn't make any eye contact with you either. Not to mention he was a little nervous."
Alex downed another glass of wine, "I can't handle this. Maybe I should talk to him.
Deela shook her head, "No, I would just wait for him to come to you. When he is ready, he will tell you."
Alex sighed, "I'm starting to feel really old right now."
Deela laughed.
They continued to talk and visit.
