Mission: Mission 86 - Discovery
Location: Starbase 400
Timeline: MD2, 915 hours, Following 'Frustration'

ON:

A moment after Doctor Romans arrived in Ops, Captain T'Sen also returned.

"The Council members are ready to beam over." He said coldly, looking at Sevlek. "Admiral."

Sevlek regarded the other officer for a moment before responding, "Mr. Archer, inform the starship Federation that they are authorized to transport the council members aboard the station."

Archer nodded, “Aye sir.” He then tapped the comm, “USS Federation, you’re cleared to transport VIPs to Transporter Room One.”

“K’Wor, Hughes, Romans, you’re with us. Ensign, advise Transporter Room One we’re on our way and advise Colonel Jackson.” Roebuck stated as he headed for the turbolift. As he entered the turbolift, he tapped his commbadge, “Ensign Amakawa, report to Transporter Room One.”

Tapping her commbadge Meslina had the habit of looking up a little whenever she responded to a call, "understood sir, I'm on my way." Finding her way to the nearest turbolift she joins the others waiting.

"Aye Sir." Carly locked down her console and moved towards the lift to join the others.

K’Wor tapped the comm on his panel, “Transporter Room One, standby for VIPs to be beamed over, greeting party in route. Colonel Jackson, please report to Transporter Room One with VIP escort detail.”

Jackson replied, "In route."

K’Wor then looked over at Hughes and nodded, allowing her to go first. The turbolift would be crowded with Sevlek, T’Sen, Roebuck, Romens, Hughes, and himself...and he wasn’t fond of crowded spaces.

At his nod Carly joined the senior officers in the turbo-lift, straightening her uniform as she did so. She was not exactly dressed for meeting V.I.P's, but they would have to deal with that after-all she was on duty.

In the meantime, Jackson and the honor guard detail, all in dress uniforms, made their way to the transporter room. He wanted to see this T'Sen.

Sevlek nodded as the last of those requested boarded the lift and spoke, "Transporter Room 1." The lift chirped and began moving.

After a moment the lift came to a stop and the doors slid open, Sevlek noticed Captain T'Sen and several of his own security personnel. "Captain."

Sevlek raised his left eyebrow as the captain responded with what sounded like disdain, "Admiral." The to Roebuck, "Commander."

Jackson, along with the Marine Honor Guard, remained silent where they stood in the transporter room. It only took a few seconds for Jackson to figure out who T'Sen was. He thought to himself, 'Command Red, few or no decorations, rank of Captain. Yup, that must be T'Sen.' He neither greeted the Captain, or even acknowledged him.

Before issuing the transporter order Sevlek checked to make sure the entire complement of officers was with him and nodded to the transporter officer, "Energize."

The man did his work and the transporter hummed to life as five columns of light shimmered into and out of existence, leaving five humanoids in their places.

Jackson nodded to the Honor Guard, and the Sergeant called them to attention at the sound of a boatswain’s whistle.

Sevlek stepped toward the five individuals and raised his left hand in the traditional Vulcan salute and said, "Dif-tur heh smusma, T'Latrekh."

The Vulcan woman nodded and raised her right hand in the same gesture and responded, "Sochya eh dif, Sevlekh."

Switching to Federation Standard, Sevlek began, "Councilors, welcome to Starbase 400."

Noticing the questioning looks from others, Bera chim Gleer spoke, "Councillor M'Relle could not accompany us as planned. Pressing matters recalled him to Cait."

Sevlek nodded then turned to address those accompanying him, "Commander Roebuck, introduce the staff to the councilors, if you would, please."

Roebuck nodded, “Yes sir…Councilmembers.” He started from left to right, “Our Acting-Chief of Security, Ensign K’Wor, Security Officer Hughes, Acting-Chief Strategic Operations Officer Ensign Amakawa, Acting-Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Romens, Acting-Marine Commander Lieutenant Colonel Jackson and his Marine Honor Guard. I’m Commander Roebuck, Acting-Executive Officer for Starbase 400.”

Carly simply nodded in greeting and acknowledgement as her name was given to the council.

Roebuck waited for one of the Councilmembers to reply, maybe even introduce themselves, before he offered to show them to their Quarters or on a tour of the Station.

T'Latrek nodded, "Thank you, commander. It is agreeable to meet you all." A pause as she looked at her companions, "I am Councilor T'Latrek of Vulcan. I am the current Chairperson of the Security Council." She then motioned towards the Human in the group, "This is Councillor Matthew Mazibuko, of Earth, currently serving as Second Chair of the Security Council." She indicated the Tellarite, "This is Councillor Bera chim Gleer of Tellar." Next the Bajoran, "Councillor Krim Aldos of Bajor." Finally the Andorian, "This is Councillor Kellerasana zh'Faila of Andor."

The Andorian was smiling as she spoke after T'Latrek, "Please, call me Kell, though."

Bera chim Gleer, known for his long-winded diatribes whenever something of import was in front of the Federation Council for deliberations, spoke, "This is not a friendly visit. We are here to determine Admiral Sevlek's ability to choose a logical command staging ground to oversee the resultant treaty between the C'hakilian and Krazzle people during the transition."

Krim Aldos responded to Gleer, who barely contained a sneer, "I'm sure the admiral was quite logical in his choice for selecting this location over DS14. I saw the largest reason as soon as we dropped from slipstream."

Sevlek nodded, "I will, of course, answer any questions any of you may have when I am not occupied by other duties." A pause as everyone noticed Gleer's lips begin to curl into a sneer then quickly stop, "Commander Roebuck will escort you to your quarters and explain the security procedures we have put in place for your stay."

Roebuck nodded, “If you’ll follow me.” Roebuck was way out of his element here. He was a field officer, and while serving as the Station’s XO, temporarily, was enough, now he was babysitting Councilmembers. He looked at K’Wor whom he motioned toward to take the lead and thought how he’d love to swap placed with the young man right now. He then motioned to Hughes to follow K’Wor, and then to Jackson to have his Marines flank the Councilmembers and cover the rear.

Jackson nodded to Roebuck, and motioned for the honor guard to take up their escort positions.

Carly fell into step behind K'wor as they led the way to the quarters allocated to the VIPs.

Of course, this seemed like over kill aboard Starbase 400, away from the Krazzle border, securely within Federation space...but he also knew this was mostly for show too.

After a few stepped down the corridor, Roebuck turned back to address the group of Councilmembers. “We have set up a secure section on the VIP level for you, each with your own private quarters. There is also conference room within this area. We will have a group of four Marines and four Security Officers on duty within the corridor twenty-six hours a day, and Captain T’Sen has stated that he will also have a contingent of his own personnel on duty as well. Anyone exiting the turbolift in this section is required to undergo a retina scan before being allowed access.”

Councilor T'Latrek nodded, “A wise precaution, however that would not prevent a shape-shifter or changling from gaining access.”

Roebuck cocked his head, “All Marines and Security personnel selected come with the highest recommendations, have impeccable service records, and are of the highest quality…even if Captain T’Sen doesn’t believe they are of acceptable species.”

Both T’Latrek and T’Sen raised their eye brows, but it was the Councilmember that spoke, “What would constitute an ‘acceptable species’.”

Jackson kept his mouth shut.

“Madam Councilor, some of the Security and Marines we have assigned come from species other than Vulcan and Human. One of them is a Gorn, another is Krazzle, and a third is a Jem’Hadar exchange officer. Each have proven their loyalty to the Federation and Starbase 400 multiple times.” Roebuck calmly explained. “Other members of the detail consist of Humans, Klingons, Vulcans, Bajorians, and a Caitian. Ensign K’Wor and Colonel Jackson, as well as myself, will also be available as needed.”

T’Latrek nodded, “And you Commander, you would entrust your lives into their hands?”

“I would. I give you my word, you will be safe under their protection.” Roebuck replied.

Jackson already implemented the roster modification, so those marines in question might not be there. He gave a simple explanation as he eyed Roebuck, hoping that he would understand what the explanation was all about.."Of course Gentlemen, the Marine guard rotation might have already occurred. Even the best of warriors need to rest," he said with a smile.

As the group arrived outside the secured VIP area, Councilor Krim Aldos of Bajor turned to Roebuck, “Commander, I noticed during the introductions that many of the Staff are ‘acting’ Chiefs, my I inquire where the Senior Officers of Starbase 400 are?”

Roebuck glanced at the rest of the Councilors who had turned to listen to the answer as well. Roebuck figured they already knew the answer anyway, “Admiral Bremer, Vice-Admiral T’Lar are aboard the USS Essex on an Exploration mission and should return in another day or two. Captain K’Temoc is aboard the new USS Yorktown conducting test flights, and should return in another day or two as well. The majority of the Senior Staff and Assistants are aboard those vessels.”

“Humph, they should of waited until after our inspections were completed.” Councilor Bera chim Gleer of Tellar replied. Of course, everyone knew the Tellarite was just trying to start an argument, which was their nature, but before anyone could reply, Councilor Matthew Mazibuko, of Earth spoke up.

“Doctor…Romans was it?”

Romans stepped up. "That is correct sir."

“I’ve been experiencing an ongoing tightness in my back and lower legs recently, muscle spasms, do you think you’ll have a few minutes to see what might be the cause?”

"I can see you at your convenience. We have a secure sickbay setup just down the corridor." Romans responded.

“Ensign, Amakawa, I want complete access to all incoming and outgoing transmissions between Starbase 400 and DS14 or any vessel assigned to the Krazzle area of operations since the end of hostilities, can you assist me with that?” Councilor Kellerasana zh'Faila of Andor asked.

"That shouldn't be too hard I'll get started on it right away." She said going over to the console and started to bring up all the data that was needed. Looking over it she noticed that it was slightly different from the system that she was used to working with, but it didn't make too much of a difference since she was still trained to use it. "Ma'am I have the information ready and will continue to monitor it as requested."

Councillor zh'Faila smiled, "Thank you, ensign." She moved closer to the console, "Your help is greatly appreciated. However, if is possible to direct this information to my quarters?" She knew the answer, it was never the wrong time to test a young officer.

Looking away from the console to the Councillor Meslina gave a slight smile of her own, "of course Ma'am. It will be on your monitor when you arrive in your quarters, if there is anything else that I can do for you just let me know."

Roebuck looked back at T’Latrek, and motioned for M’Kota to step forward. “This is M’Kota sogh, she is in command of the detail here at this time. If there is anything you need, she will be your primary point of contact in this area.” He then looked down the line of Security and Marine Personnel, “Currently, we have First Ramta’tar, Staff Sergeant Agxt, Sergeant Taz, Sergeant Cather, Corporal Schmidt, Ensign Vortek, Ensign Vega, Varn sogh, and Warrant Officer Talan.”

T’Latrek looked over each Marine and Security Officer, learning their faces. “Very well. I need to meditate, tell Admiral Sevlek we will meet with him at 1330 hours, using the conference room here.”

“Yes ma’am.” Roebuck replied. He then turned to K’Wor and Hughes. “Ms Hughes, will you also return at 1330 hours and relieve M’Kota?

Carly had stood quiet as was expected of a junior officer, you did not speak unless spoken too. She had nodded in greeting when her name had been mentioned in way of introduction, but that had been all. Now she had her orders, "Aye Sir." was all she said as she stayed in place beside K'Wor.

K'wor looked over at the young woman, then back to Roebuck.

M'Kota just continued her guard duty until she was relieved, she turned to one of the other officers. "Make sure the VIP is not disturbed." She ordered.

Ensign Vortek nodded, “Understood.”

K’Wor looked back at Hughes, “Guess we better return to Ops.”

Carly turned and looked up at K'wor, "Looks that way, lead the way." she said with a slight smile as she stepped to one side to allow him to go first.

Roebuck also nodded, “Let’s give the Council members time to rest before their meetings.” He turned toward the turbolift to return to Ops as well.

Jackson looked over the Marine guards, gave them a nod of approval. He dismissed the honor guard as soon as they exited the VIP Area. He did not say much to T'Sen on this event. He was saving his words for a better time.

He returned to the Marine Command Post, where he was more than happy to get back into his battle dress uniform. His dress uniform felt a little "snug", the aftereffect of a field grade position.

Giving a slight sigh at this meeting Meslina looks over at Romans, "well that went better than I expected, I'm not really good at dealing with that many people in one room."

"Considering the number of Senior Staff off of the base, I have to agree with you. I tend to go with the motto, just keep swimming. It helps to just roll with whatever comes my way." Romans replied.
