Olga sat in the hallway on the deck. She had her knees up to her chest. Her arms were locked around her legs. She had her head on her knees. She looked around at the wreckage.
There was twisted metal and the bodies of Marines and Jem' Hadar strewn along the ground. Flames were burning all around. The lights were flickering on and off. Overhead Olga could see stars and a Dominion ship.
The Sun Su Yi had been ripped open by weapons fire. A talented engineer somewhere got the Yi's shields back up. They would eventually go out again. That would send Olga out into the void. That's when she was transported to the Chasseur. Only twenty one survivors were beamed off.
Olga starred down the passage way through the wreckage. That's where it was. The nursery where her son Nikolai was. He would never get out. Twenty nine children and three nurses died in the nursery. Their signal was lost right before the Yi exploded.
Only thirty yards away and Olga couldn't reach him. Only thirty petty yards. Olga was hurt. Back then, her right shoulder was crushed by burning metal. A Jem' Hadar had cut the tendons behind her left knee. She struggled down the corridor. Then it all went away.
The tortured shields finally gave out. Olga flew out into space for only a second before she found herself on a transporter room floor. Several medics were on her before she could orientate herself. She would be out for days.
Olga wiped the tears from her eyes. She would go on to kill several more Jem' Hadar. She killed Cardassians. She killed some of the Borg. She killed Klingons and Gorn and Romulans.
She couldn't kill the ghosts. They were the invincible enemy. She would always lose.
"Computer: End program." Olga ordered. The room became black with a yellow grid. Olga slowly stood up and walked out. She lost again.
