Begin personal log:
When I first arrived here on Starbase 400, I could not help but feel that some of my colleagues were right; that starbases are where careers go to die. And yet, I've seen and done more in my first, abbreviated mission than nearly all of my previous time in Starfleet.
I've traveled via slipstream, traveled to the highest ranks of Starfleet Command, and even got to shake the President's hand. It was a real honor, even if I didn't vote for the man.
I've met some fantastic new friends and even had serendipitous reunions with a couple of old friends as well. It hasn't all been roses, however. I nearly got my new friend, Delair, killed and I fell off the wagon and went on a bender. But I'm still in a better place and that won't be happening again.
Times have been tense lately. It looks like relations with he Typhon pact might be crumbling and we're even going to be heading on a covert mission deep into Romulan territory.
Part of me is excited, and I'm a bit ashamed to admit it. I've always enjoyed the thrill of battle. But I know it often comes at great cost. I can only hope to do my best to make sure everyone makes it back alive.
All in all, it seems I'm making a difference since I arrived here. Honestly, that's all I could have hoped for. Until next time, computer, this is Ensign David Brody signing off.
End log.
