USS Endeavor – Underway at warp

A small asteroid tumbled in a slow, lazy arc. From the deep of space and thousands of light years it had travelled. From the vast emptiness of space – what wonders had it seen? As it slowly tumbles, a pinpoint of light can be seen in the far distance. It grows brighter and closer. Suddenly, the asteroid is pushed out of the way by an unseen force and seconds later, a Federation starship passes by at a speed that is barely discernable. The blur of the red of the Bussard collector and the blue of the warp nacelles and that of the main deflector dish form a kind of rainbow of primary colors. As quickly as it came, the ship is gone, and the asteroid continues its lonely path. Endeavor sped along at high warp speed. The bridge was alive with energy and the stars streaked by.

PERSONAL LOG ENTRY

“Assistant Chief Science Officer’s log, stardate 74104.8. LTJG. Matthew Plumeri recording:

Endeavor is back in action after a short pitstop. Engines and aft shield matrix have been repaired and stabilized. I will have to remember to send a bottle of Gliessen wine to Commander Solomon as a token of our thanks. We passed a newly formed black hole, designated JFC-193645-Calyptus. This one is young at only one-hundred and twenty-six years old. We still don’t know what is beyond that…maw. Dark, so dark and empty? Maybe. When we pull back the curtain of black holes, what secrets will it yield up? What…mighty prey has it caught? Stars? Planets? For sure it has. There is this immortal glow all about the event horizon. Some call them monsters. We fear them only because we know so little about them. We have not yet discovered a lockpick to their hearts. One day though. One day.

We will have caught up to the rest of the fleet in a few minutes. And then? I am not sure. Captain Coleman is determined to expose whatever mystery is behind these complex strains and organic compounds. I have a bad feeling that something is about to change.

Computer? End personal log and save it.”
